********NOTICE********
A number of members have commented that their order has not shipped despite the GeekBuying site showing 5-8 days. If your order hasn’t shipped, you’ve requested a refund or have been told by GeekBuying ‘it will ship this week’ comment below.

Had my eye on this for a while and hadn’t seen a price like this for the international version aka the English version launched on indigogo. For those interested in the specs, here’s one of the better reviews & demonstrations of feature https://youtu.be/D_W3827xSSs

43% saving on the RRP USD$69.99, GeekBuying USD$39.99 converted on GB to $54.90 inc Australia Direct Line Shipping which is quoted as 5-8 days

Couldn’t find a coupon code that didn’t reset the price to $69 however.

Note - if you’re getting a price that is different to $39, try the email newsletter link http://t.edm.geekedm.com/t.aspx/subid/669881278/camid/133724…

  • Is this in English yet?

    • +2

Yes, this is the English version hence the International Version in the title. The Chinese version has 70mai on the front in Chinese, while this has it in English.

      • So this one speaks in English and takes English voice commands?

Any other differences in terms of specs vs. the Chinese 70mai?

        • +1

Correct. Speaks English and recognises English commands. Other differences is the speech engine is now using Nuance, dedicated app in English and their flash storage has been doubled to 128mb (to support English).

        • +1

Yes full English commands and other minor improvements over the Chinese version.

          Review here https://youtu.be/D_W3827xSSs

  • +1

    Is this any good?

  • It’s a good enough camera for reverse camera thru the app although not 100%

    • Why isn't it 100%?

      • -1

Cause it hasn’t got all the beepings and yellow/red line, Only a vision of what is behind your car thru the app

        • +2

There is no camera that does that unless it's actually hardwired to a system which is also connected to the steering input.

        • Oh! I thought you meant as a reverse-facing dashcam - gotcha!

  • I have a Chinese one of these … can I flash it to english?

    • +4

Yes it's possible, but doesn't work as well as the International version.

This guide tell and shows you how with firmware available here. You may want to check the other pages on dashcamtalk as someone may have linked newer firmware.

      • +1

I've got a Chinese version flashed to English, works fine apart from voice commands. I don't care for voice command so it's fine for me.

        • You got a link for the firmware you used?

        • +2

          @Sober Thoughts:

I used the same firmware in the dashcamtalk link above.

          Here's the direct link for v1.04 https://drive.google.com/file/d/1VQ7nZsrZyBP7_MlxcyY0FYFgqDL…

        • @yippy:

          just flashed mine.
          took 2 mins.

hope the video quality is the same haha…
          but thanks mate.

language didnt bother me before. as it didnt really say anything/just 'chimed'as when i start my car the battery would cut off… unless i start it slowly.

        • @yippy:

thank you, i just flashed to v1.03 before finding this post.

          guess i'll do 1.04 tomorrow

        • @spoonmugen:

My one says something in Mandarin when it turns on, that's what annoyed me because I didn't have a clue what it was saying. At least with the English voice I know what's going on.

        • @yippy: >My one says something in Mandarin when it turns on,

          Yanny?

  • Looks pretty decent.

How do I set up two cameras if I only have one car lighter port? Do I need some sort of splitteR?

    • +1

you’d probably need a dual USB cigarette lighter that could power both.

      • Or just use a USB port in a portable battery charger to power the camera. That’s what I do

      • I see. Thanks.

I wonder if there’s any other practical way. I drive a Mazda 3 and the car lighter is in the middle storage compartment.

    • Jaycar and the likes sell multiple power sockets like this. Seems the 2 socket ones are discontinued, hence why I've a linked a 4 port one. The alternative is to hardwire and hide the adapters/sockets using a couple of these.

    • I have been using a cheap splitter from ebay, been working fine for 2+ years

  • So it will record only 70min video?

  • This dashcam is NOT made by XIAOMI, and it is only the part of XIAOMI ecosystem. "70mai" is the brand, not "XIAOMI". The office website here https://www.70mai.com/en/

    • +1

Pretty sure Xiaomi only make phones and tablets; everything else just has their name slapped on it.

    • Whether it’s manufactured by xiaomi I don’t know, however Geek Buying, GearBest and Banggood have all listed it as Xiaomi 70mai.

All the reviews also call it Xiaomi and have yet to come across one that explains the Xiaomi / 70mai connection

    • +2

      Found this explanation

“The camera will be produced by Banya Tech with investment and support from Xiaomi Technology Ecological Chain Enterprises, bringing the camera under the China-based Xiaomi budget brand”

  • +1

How does the battery hold up in a climate such as ours? I have a G1W-C as the version with a battery failed, presumably due to a high car interior temperature.

    • +1

your g1w-c is caps / no battery

      this is battery li-po

      • A cursory google search indicates the safe maximum temp is 60° (or less). So I wouldn’t be leaving these in a car in the Australian sun.

        • In other words, useless as a dashcam in Australia then? Or are we expected to remove it from the car every time we park in the sun?

      • your g1w-c is caps / no battery

Yes which is why "I have a G1W-C as the version with a battery failed".

    • Normally I blow Aircond cool air thru windscreen to cool down any camera ( I don’t mount my camera at the top , only at the bottom closed to cool air ) and so far I have no problems with any cameras.

      • There is both longevity and safety to consider. My concern is safety.

      • +1

Camera mounted low on windscreen is going to miss out on field of vision in lower area in front of car, particularly when trying to identify number plates. And unless you have a Prius with a solar roof and forced cooling while parked, it's gonna get hot no matter where you mount it when the vehicle's parked/not running/locked.

    • My previous Mini 0801 had a battery and lasted 4.5 years and it wasn't the battery that went bad either. I replaced it with the Xiaomi 70mai and it went through this Summer without any issues so far.

  • What price can you get the Chinese version at? is it cheaper than this international one?

  • +2

Looks like it's out of stock

  • +1

Yup just taking email addresses till they come back into stock

  • Damn missed it

    • Back in stock, not sure how many left though.

  • Watched the footage, that is nice. Loks like better than my SJ4000.

    But i Missed it.

    • Back in stock, not sure how many left though.

  • +2

Check back tomorrow. It might have more stock allocated.

  • i regret getting the chinese version…

  • +1

Does this have the option to record when your car is parked?

    • Yes, they call it Auto Emergency Recording

  • Received an email saying back in stock, so get before it sells out again.

  • Im fairly new to dashcams but im interested in getting one, is this considered fairly decent quality?
Is there anything out there thats worth spending a little more?

    • For this price range, not that I’ve seen.

  • This or Viofo A119s?

  • +1

Thanks OP. Just ordered one using the email link. Price was US$39.99 plus US$0.34 for Australia Direct Line Shipping. Total US$40.33 (AU$53.46 on 24Degrees card).

    • +1

I just set up an account so haven't got an email link.
      I can only see USD44.99 ~ AUD62.01

Is there a different way to get ~AUD55?

      • It doesn't appear so. There is a little orange box next to the price that says "email offer limit reached". :(

  • +1

Thanks OP, bought two (front & back) at US$49.99 each, can anyone advise on what SD card would be suitable.

  • Any more left at this price?

  • Ordered mine 2 days ago and still hasn't shipped, I've never bought from them before. Should I be worried?

    • They are slow. I ordered days ago.

  • english one here for US$37.10 delivered (with $5 seller coupon ) plus there will be the further + 8% cash rewards, so effectively US$34. LINK

can also get an extra $4 new Aliexpress buyer coupon as well - so possible US$30.50 ish.

just ordered one. - though I note this is a new store with no feedback.

    • good price but not sure if you can trust this seller. Please give us feedback after you got it.

  • Has anyone who ordered has theirs shipped yet? Still no updates on my order after 1 week.

    • Nope.

    • Nope, I ended up cancelling my order and refunded today.

      • Same here. Got fed up waiting for it to move off "processing", so cancelled my order.

  • Price is down to US$39.99 again. Bought one. Thanks OP!

  • Has anyone actually received a notification that their order has shipped?

  • +3

Please delete " Inc 5-8 Day Shipping " I placed order on 3/6/18 . Still item not shipped. I requested for refund.

  • the same with mine. still "order (processing)" . request for a refund

  • +2

Mods - can we get a warning or something flagged on this post that no-one has received their order from Geek Buying?

  • +1

    05 june, order placed.
22 june, order still processing and no shipping notification. contacted geekbuying and was told stock to arrive 25 june. order will be prioritised and tracking number provided.
28 june, still no change. contacted geekbuying again, was told manufacturer did not deliver and estimated delivery is next week. order will be prioritised, tracking number provided and 'small gift' to be thrown in for free

i'll wait it out. it better be a farkin awesome 'small gift'
PS their support is at least very responseive….for now

    • 06 July, still no change. contacted geekbuying again, was told stock arriving "tomorrow", order will be prioritised. "tomorrow" is a Saturday in China/HK

    • 07 July, received email saying order shipped. received tracking number.
11 July, courier actually receives order/package, according to first update on tracking number

    • 17 July, received dashcam.
Tested it out with some night driving. Quality as expected for low light. You're not going to get number plates under halogen headlights.

Voice commands are hit/miss. There is no physical way to trigger an 'emergency save', it's up to the camera's g-sensor or a voice command. Wifi is hella slow to copy more than a few videos off it. You'll want to take out the SD card and stick it into something else to grab lots of files. Video files are saved in 1min chunks at approx 118mb per file. Photos approx 375kb

Now I need to figure out how I can hardwire it so I can get my usb port back

  • +1

I received the email today advising that they are out of stock and will be shipping early July. The email said I should consider changing to either this cam https://www.geekbuying.com/item/DDPai-Mini-1080P-Car-DVR-Cam… or this cam https://www.geekbuying.com/item/Anytek-G100-Dash-Cam-2-45Inc… as an alternative.

Couldn't be so lucky as to be a straight swap?

    • Got the email too and offering the same alternative cameras. Is any of the camera better than 70mai?

One thing for sure i won't buy anything from them again

      • I'm not sure, the DDpai Mini dashcam looks pretty good but I'm no dashcam expert.

  • Customer Service is now saying it’s out of stock now and it will be July. They’re also offering to exchange it.

    GB is a joke.

  • +2

email saying it has finally shipped today

  • Same.

  • Just got email that it shipped today well.
