why post anything from Harvey Norman. You are funding the organisation who lobbied to get gst on all products that are imported. No OZ Bargainer should buy from here if they ever intend to buy from overseas.

I know it's free speech and all - but I'd totally get behind banning HN from OZB haha

400 upvotes for amex deal. Yes ozbargain hate hn.

Believe it or not, a lot of people are not fussed about ordering cheap products from Asia or trying save couple bucks waiting weeks from US so it doesn’t affect them. If HN are the best deal around then so be it.

    • the problem isn’t the 10% gst which ebay seem to be happy to collect , it’s amazon saying it’s too hard and they’d rather not ship to australia.
      i’d be more than ha

t to pay amazon us prices plus gst just to shut gerry up …..but not even shipping is a bad outcome for choice of products

the problem with ebay is that they have a global shipping deal with freight forwarders which makes makes shipping
expensive from the usa if it’s how sellers wish to ship vs them sending it themselves via usps.

we have stil to see how it all comes out as aliexpress are in australia …..sort off ….and gearbest and banggood well they don’t care they will sell and the sellers will ship and you send the money to china and all is good and if the ato has an issue contact the china office customer care who do don’t answer even paying customers …. or wait 45 business days to lodge a complaint ……

It's not really a great deal - it's the same at JB.

Super underpowered and expensive for what it is - probably better to go for a different laptop with more RAM/better CPU.

  • Windows 10 S. may not be everyone's cup of tea.

You can upgrade to the full version for free currently.

  • My personal opinion is surface pros are trash. They'll probably be good around revision 5 I'd say. Their charge/dock port is so bad so I hope they go usb-c.

I have had a Surface Pro 3 for over 2 years of daily use and never had a problem with it. The magnetic keyboard dock works perfect. What did you find to be 'trash' about it? Also, this is a deal for Surface Laptop, not Pro.

      • The SP4 dock is an overpriced piece of junk. It crashes the device, it requires additional active adapters to display to some monitors which MS don't sell, and the cost $300 is insulting when it doesn't function well.

The issue with the deal is 4GB of RAM doesn't cut it. It will lag and struggle with large PDF documents from my experience. I would highly recommend going for 8GB as a minimum.

You forgot to put 'in my opinion' in your comment.

The issue with the deal is 4GB of RAM doesn't cut it.

I disagree, 4GB is fine for light use, but it all comes down to the individual and what their intentions are.

        • @Lorindor:

I thought it was obvious I was providing my opinion as did mention "my experience", if not then that's my opinion based on real life use of an MS M3 4GB device. I do use my machine as a portable device for light use: world processing, web browsing, and reading PDF documents. Like yourself, I initially thought it would be fine for light use but it struggles: it lags when you flick through pages of large PDF documents, you can't use browsers like Firefox smoothly, and you do notice it. I am not sure what would be lighter use than that? For $1k I think you can do better, for that price I wouldn't get anything less than 8GB of RAM.

        • you, need the same res monitor as the laptop or screen …like lots of devices does strange things when you change res in a doc …..we got staff same res monitors as the surface and replaced their old 1080p and all was good …….

      • Had a Surface Pro 4, only just recently got rid of it (with a refund) after a year of dealing with Flickergate. Now I'm just left with hundreds of dollars of useless surface accessories.

      • The Surface Pro has 1 USB port.
        It has no ethernet port.
It has had multiple wifi issues.
The edge to edge glass looks nice but if broken cannot be replaced.
Rather than HDMI it has a mini-DisplayPort.
The diagnostics are a windows executable that is a joke, basic diags should run as a boot option at the least.

people at work had the option of surface pros vs ulatbooks vs desktops ……
i went with ultrabook as it came higher spec’d than surface.
some went with desktops as an excuse to not take notebooks to meetings or work from home.
some went with surface as easy to take home work come home , and they read emails in trains …..

depends what people want a device for ….one of the reason businesses are going byo device.

devices often aren’t the issue , it’s people selecting the wrong device for their needs.

  • I wonder why surface laptops are so dear, according to these specs, it should be less than $700…
