After last week's success on the Ramsta S600, the deal is back for an even lower price than before making it one of the cheapest SSDs currently available on the market!

The Ramsta S600 is a 480GB TLC SSD with a sequential read up to 550MB/s and a sequential write up to 440MB/s. This SSD is suitable for replacing a traditional HDD in a laptop, use as a dedicate game drive (e.g. Steam games), OS drive or even slipped inside an enclosure for use as a portable SSD. Ramsta are using SK hynix TLC flash with a Silicon Motion controller.

      23cents per Gb….

  • Is this good for laptop as a OS drive?

    • I wouldn't risk it.
As a Steam drive… hell yes!

      • +1

Currently using one as a Oculus drive still going strong after 2 months.

Is there a reason to buy this over a 500gb Evo or MX500 in the current eBay 20% off deals and then adding a 2.5 USB3 enclosure? Would cost about the same price.

    • +4

I am not seeing any 500gb at anywhere near this price. The 240/250gb is around $100 as far as I can see. Link?

      • +1

Yeah hes dreaming.. The reviews look good i cant resist at this price.1 year warranty is ok.

    • +4

Honestly if you're using it for OS, definitely stick with evo or mx500. Using this just for unimportant storage is definitely worth it (eg. steam games)

      • +1

Why? Oh wait, you don't back up your more trustworthy ssds?

        • Because restoring an OS restore doesn't always go right, and when it doesn't it's a time consuming process to get back to where you were.

        • @syousef:
Vary rarely does it ever go wrong, though not saying it can't or won't.

I've never had an issue restoring an OS image made with Reflect.

          @TilacVIP:

My experience has been the opposite. I don't bother with OS images anymore. By the time I want to restore one between updates and changes to software I may as well start from scratch.

        • I personally don't backup anything lol
          yolo

        • Nope, dont want to be thinking about the prospect of a SSD breaking. I just back up the files that I need. Reliability is key.

      • +1

In my case the OS is the most unimportant data on the system since it's the easiest to restore along with any software, (except games which are all on a separate drive).

I've been using this as my main drive since I got it 3 or so weeks ago, working better than the SanDisk Extreme I had.

  • do we need to pay GST if it arrives after 1st July?

    • pay $2 more and get it in 5-8 days

      • +1

Or 2 weeks. Bought one on the 1st June and it still hasn't been processed or shipped yet.

        • Unlucky I think, or I was lucky. I ordered some home automation stuff from them on the 2/6 and got it on 5/6. Sunshine Coast.

        • I bought on 31 May and it was shipped out on 2 June

this is a far better deal

You really don't wanna cheap out on storage

    • +12

In some cases I do want to cheap out on storage though.

    • +3

The $30 difference in price would cover the cost of backing the drive up.

I have been using mine for a week, it's not long enough considering that people are going to want to know about reliability more than anything else, however so far so good. I'll update in a few months when the deal comes on again. I'm using it in a laptop running Ubuntu Mate.

  • How is this cheaper than last weeks? What am I missing?

    • The Aud is stronger than last week, so technically cheaper through price conversion.

  • Oooh, a fast one!

  • Wonder how it compares to A400 from Kingston.

    • Both sound like they are using planar tlc, Kingston's Phison controller is a bit faster but you'll only see the difference in benchmarks. The 5 year warranty, however, may be worth paying the extra money for.

  • Why so cheap? What's the catch?

    • china

Combination of cheaper flash memory and China. You're not going to get the same speeds as something far more expensive like a Samsung 860. Still faster than a traditional HDD though.

looks like a good upgrade for the PS4 internal HDD

    • SSDs do very minimal benefit for the PS4, so I've heard. you're much better off buying a way bigger HDD, you could easily get a 2TB HDD under $100.

      • Yeah okay, I might go with that then.

On the PC, using a better SSD improves loading times for emulators like Cemu (Wii U) and RPCS3 (Playstation 3).

I was hoping I could do the same for my PS4 games but I guess I won't bother.

  • Had a feeling this was going to come back after the Tigo SSD yesterday - ordered 1 to put my Steam games on :)

    • It's from the 6th Anniversary. Only 18pcs left now.

  • It is good SSD if you want to run VM on it and then take regular snapshots in HDD.

  • for those that already have this in hand, is the enclosure plastic or metal? Thanks!

    • Metal
