  • Got this deal last time. SSD hasn't missed a beat so far. +1

    • Same! I moved a lot of my Steam games onto this and the loading times have significantly decreased compared to the old spinning drive.

    • +1

S.M.A.R.T. reports mine had exactly 1000 data transfer errors from the first power on plus a temperature that always sits at 49°C.

Hasn't missed a beat either but AS SSD benchmarks are a bit worse than expected … maybe I ended up with a dud given the errors/temp. report above.

Ordered the Netac N500S which should perform better.

      • +1

Perhaps the SSD doesn't actually record the temperature as some budget SSDs don't.

Happy to speak to CS about the SSD if there are errors with the drive. Send me a PM with your order number :)

        • Do these drives come with their own disk monitoring software like intel and sandisk do. I just prefer to use a manufacturers own software although I have heaps of testing and monitoring stuff

        • +3

@ShannonN: No. Something like CrystalDiskInfo will suffice.

        • +2

          @ShannonN:

Not this one, I'm just using HD Sentinel Pro.

        • +1

          @Clear:
Thanks but should be fine, not too worried about data transfer errors, if it was Reallocated sectors or similar, that would be something else.

Was just mentioning in case someone else had something similar to report with theirs, the benchmarks are still better than the SanDisk Extreme I was using as my system drive.

Ordered another one as well as the Netac.

BTW, just to be clear, if you choose Free Registered shipping you get the Direct Line instead?

Just wondering, ordered two last time, both Free Registered, one was sent via Direct Line the other Free Registered.

      • Odd that the 4k write is higher than the 4k read

        • The 4k figures are inline with all my other SSDs, the Sequential Read/Write is the opposite.

My SanDisks, Apacer, Kingstons all show a higher Sequential Read than Write, they're all >330MB/s read with writes around 180MB/s.

      • +2

temperature that always sits at 49°C.

        If it's unchanging then it's wrong …

        • Point was it should report N/A if it doesn't have a temperature sensor.

It could have a sensor and the temperature doesn't change because it's poorly positioned but the calibration is out.

It could also have a sensor which is faulty.

Since no one else has mentioned any S.M.A.R.T. stats at all, it was an observation.

        • One of my HDD's sits at 128°C apparently xD

    • +1 would buy again

    • Can anyone from the previous deal comment on the delivery time? I assume it's Aus post who deliver once it's in Aus.

      • +1

With AU Direct it can take 1-2 weeks with processing while free shipping is up to 30-40 business days typically.

Auspost deliver once it reaches Australia.

        • Do you select Free Registered and it will be upgraded to Direct Line?

Or Direct Line and the $1.38 which gets added will come off again at final checkout?

Just wondering because I ordered two last time, both Free Registered, one came Direct Line the other Free Registered.

        • @4wd: If you click Proceed to checkout you get to choose the shipping method before payment. Free is selected by default but Australia Direct Line can be selected for an additional $1.38.

  • Just bought one thanks OP

  • Can I put this in a MacBook Pro 13” 2012?

    • Yep. IIRC and looking online it seems that model does infact have a 2.5" SATA HDD that is replaceable.

    • +1

As long as it's not the retina 2012

  • +1

i would rather spend a bit more and get Kingston for peace of mind.
Will wait for this deal to come back again

    • Why not spend a smidget more and get the crucial? I remember seeing it for about $150.

      • +1

I spent a bit more than that and got a m.2 version. It was an evo850 on clearance. Total was $167

        • +9

I spent a bit more and got an Evo 850 not on clearance. It as $180.

Keep the waterfall going until we hit $1000, guys.

        • @aong152: spent a lot more and went enterprise grade… j/k

        • @aong152:
          Spent $249 on Evo 850

        • i think its worth getting an M.2 NVMe drive like the Samsung 960 Evo for around $240 rather than waste the M.2 slot of your motherboard on a slower 850 Evo SATA drive.

        • +1

          @antikythera:

Spend a lot more after 1 July for no gain whatsoever.

        • @antikythera: think I’ll spend a lot more and get a 2tb nvme drive for my motherboard that doesn’t support it.

    • +2

I was going to spend a little more, but… nah

I still remember spending $300 for a 60gb OCZ SSD

    • +1

Won't fit what this will and vice versa

    • +1

I have an m.2 and a sata 3 interface in my laptop.
I populated both, because why not?

      • +3

Yes but Sage requested you not use a sata drive so please stop immediately as it's not 2010.

  • +2

Careful not to accidentally order the Ramster S600, it's a completely different product and not 2.5 inches.

  • I have not heard of Ramsta. Price is too good to be true.

    Is it nasty?

    • Ramsta are owned by the same company as Tigo who are a well known budget SSD brand. You're not going to get the same speed as a more premium brand like Samsung, but the speeds are still significantly better than a hard drive.

      • I'm more about reliability and data not being corrupted. And longevity (write cycles).

        • You'll have trouble finding those kind of reviews in English as Ramsta are new to the international market. They've been big in Chinese circles like Taobao who would have reviews.

        • @Clear: man you really know your asian shopping stuff, how often do you shop on taobao clear?

        • +1

@furythree: Former writer for one of the well known Chinese tech news sites ;) before I went and did my own thing.

I am on Taobao almost daily.

        • @Clear: wow this is your dayjob? do you have a blog?

        • @furythree: Nah I have normal day job. This is more of a night time job. I do have a website, but I keep that separate from OzBargain. More anonymity that way.

  • Just purchased another one. Bought one last time. Seems to work well. Nice looking drive colourwise ,not that that matters unless putting in clear USB case😁

  • good for backing up main drive. The red makes it easy to identify. 8)

  • Can this be used on an Acer Nitro 5 AN515-51?

    • If it has a SATA slot then yes.

  • Thx op

  • Can I install this SSD on a Dell latitude e5430 laptop?

    • +1

      Yes

  • Is this compatible with the Asus Vivobook F510UA laptop from a post a couple of weeks ago?

  • Amazing price for the capacity!! I would not use this as your main system drive or store crucial data on it though.

Good enough for application caching, games data, backup etc.

    • +1

Storing crucial data on this is fine unless you are not backing up your crucial data. I hope you are!

  • Thanks OP. Ordered one to replace the old HDD. Should be a great upgrade.

  • I bought one from the last deal, finally got around to plugging it in, and no go, tried two different USB to sata converters and no good, only thing that comes up is an LED inside the drive. Haven't chased a return yet.

    • +2

That's because it's unformatted by default (like all other HDD/SSDs) so you need to format it for Windows to recognise as a drive.

In Windows Right click This PC > Manage > Disk Management
A disk should show with Unallocated space close to 480GB.
Right click in the white space and click New Simple Volume and follow the prompts.

You should then be able to see it mounted to a letter like any other USB drive.

  • Weird, I bought 1 SSD, which has been shipped (I checked the order was for 1 unit). They've charged me 3 times (3 separate transactions) on paypal. Have emailed them to see what the deal is.

    • Payment is handled Paypal so that's very unusual. Shoot me a PM with your order number and I'll make sure they look into it tomorrow.

      • Hi Clear, I checked my card balance this morning and I've had 2 of the transactions credited to my card. I have no idea whether this was a Paypal issue or what it was. My credit card showed 3 debits but Paypal only shows 1.

Anyway it is now resolved, thanks for offering to help.

        • Definitely sounds like a PP glitch which they must have picked up. Glad it's sorted.
