Not sure what it is exactly, but this model number purchased from Harvey Norman between 1st June and 30th June 2018 appears to be eligible for an Asus $500 Experience promotion. (the model number and retailer are both listed as eligible) https://www.rewardtank.com.au/asus

It seems like they would give you a voucher worth $500 for use at different venues. Details are a bit scarce.

    Q: What experiences are available?
A: You will have over 500 venues Australia wide to choose from which include experiences like Archery, Paintball, Rock Climbing, kayaking, Craft, Cooking, Tours and Dancing.

  • Interesting. I guess the memory is not expandable?

    • Not AFAIK, I think it's only the SSD that is replaced.

        Ok thanks!

If anyone has one of these and wants to post their thoughts…

I caved and picked one up yesterday. I have only used it for a bit mainly setting it up and installing updates and Office 2016.

Feels nice and solid. I love the finish on the aluminium. It's very quiet (though I haven't tried anything intensive like running older games). Remained pretty cool on my lap though again I haven't stressed it.

Trackpad is nice, keyboard is good though feels a little clicky. The KB backlight is off by default (function+F3 is your friend) and has 3 brightness levels.

I really like the display, colours are good and good brightness and contrast.

Considering I am coming off of a 6 year old laptop (RAM and SSD upgraded) this is great and has a IMHO a nice premium feel to it.

I think for $1116/-, I am very happy with this.

        • @camelthief: Was the pen included? I only found differing reports.

          @BugsBunnyAUS:

Pen included along with a case/sleeve for the laptop.

        • @camelthief: great thanks! I think that might seal the deal…

The lack of USB C charging and only 8GB of RAM kinda stopped me on this one ):

    • why do you need more than 8gb

    • -1

      Unless gaming,8gb is enough.
And this is not a gaming machine.

      • +2

        I'd argue the opposite.

On my custom built workstation, I'm currently using 20GB.
I use probably around 6GB when gaming.

        • -1

this is not a gaming machine so why are you bringing gaming into this
you're probably one of those people who say macbooks are shit because u can't game on them

        • @Basimx: @Entropy Sky brought up gaming, saying that you need more than 8GB to game. I was disagreeing with their point.

I couldn't care less about MacBooks not being able to game, I don't find gaming on a laptop a particularly enjoyable experience regardless.
I was making a point that I almost always use 8GB and often use over 16GB when doing actual work on my computer.
If you don't need more than 8GB, more power to you, you can buy a less expensive computer with fewer slowdowns. If you're like me and your workload requires more than that, then a laptop with less obviously won't be suitable.

I don't understand where the hostility comes from.

        • @BenR31415: I didn't have my snickers today

        • @BenR31415:

I float around 6-7 daily with everything, a bit lower on a laptop but 8GB totally isnt enough. Guess some people just use theirs for YouTube and solitaire :x

  • I went to have a look at this today, and they jack up the price with 1/2 yearly sale to $1286 :(
