Anybody can sell… will they keep your solar system running and your electricity bills down?

e-Solar supplies only tier 1 solar panels and inverters from reputable manufacturers with proven record.

A Solar System is like a roof on your house… Once installed you're kind of stuck with it.

It takes 8 hours to install it properly by experienced professionals and much less for cheaper hurried job with roof leaks when the rains come.

Lots of very attractive offers on the papers today but considering the long term investment and the history of the industry a closer look is worth it.

According to ASIC statistics, more than 500 solar companies have closed down since 2011 leaving many clients stranded and the industry reputation in tatters.

e-Solar has been involved exclusively in Solar and Renewable Energy for over 30 years.

Geeeez if us west aussies said "what about perth?" for every easter states deal, we'd reach the top in comments :)

What about me? It isn't fair. I've had enough, now I want my share.

    • +2

      Hey Nollsy

  • +7

Zever sits on the entry level inverters as per the following:

    https://www.solarquotes.com.au/solar101.html

It might be a German design but they are Chinese made. A bit misleading!

    • +1

True, but in OP defence, he said German design, not German made.
Just like Apple I suppose, we've been tricked all these times!!!

    • +2

Most of the better panels and inverters are made in China.

    • +2

Pretty sure China is ahead of Germany for solar panel design.

    • +1

In fact we don't say German Made, also state the brand name …Zever Solar which is owned by SMA Germany. How is that misleading?

  • I don't quite understand. Would this cover $300-$400 per bill? So a payback period of apprx. 1 year?

    • -1

      $400 per bill = $1600 per year = 26 months payback roughly

      • +1

Ah, quarterly bills. Can tell I don't own or rent a home haha

    • +3

Need to take into account of winter days, solar panel alignment, etc.

It is impossible to say $300-400 per bill.

      • What would be a better estimate? I'm just trying to gather some info for my parents. We all know nothing about solar.

        • +2

What is their current KW/H usage? This will be on their electric bill

I am in Perth, Northern Suburbs. Got my system, same as advertised in term of KW package.

In April, I was averaging 24 KW/H per day,
In May, 18KW/H average over the month, (24 at the start heading down towards 18 kw/h by the end
In June, so far. 11 KW/H average until today.

My average solar bill before solar was around $300, went down to $75 on the 1st bill post solar.
You will make most of your savings during summer, and not so much during winter.

I changed all my routines around, to use as much electricity during the day (washing machine, dryer, heater etc).
Changed all my downlights to LED.
Using a master/slave power board for my tv system.

All the little things add up to getting down to $0.00 bills.

        • @smigglejiggle:

I just checked one of our bills and our average is 22 units per day from Feb - Apr 2018. Which I assume means 22 kW/h per day?

So relatively similar to your situation.

        • +1

          @nurries:

Yeah, sounds similar to what I was using. This is the largest system you can get btw for rebates. I paid $4100 installed, so $3500 is good.

ESolar have good reviews as well.

          https://www.solarquotes.com.au/installer-review/esolar/

        • +1

I'm getting approx $890 value per annum on a 5kW system.
If you multiply that by 1.3 (for 6.5 kW system), which is a bit generous, it would be $1157.
A 3 year payback is very good.

In my case I generate 21 units per day and use a third of that. The more you use the more it saves you. If you are never home except in the evenings then you get much less value.

        • @coxymla:

I think it would be a good idea for us to get this or a similar deal (will make some calls to see if they can price beat). Especially because we are now running a computer business from home and will be using a lot more power than any previous years.

        • @smigglejiggle: Hi mate, could you please elaborate on your master/slave power board for the tv?

    • +1

$300-400 is if you use electricity during daylight hours and to the capacity you're generating. Or if you have a battery (hint - your ROI greatly changes).

$300-400 is a purely hypothetical scenario that probably takes the highest electricity rates, highest solar panel output, lowest wastage/feedback…

    • It means suitable for families having bills ranging between $300 and $400 every 2 months

  • Is this a good price?
    Is it worth upgrading anything?
What kind of hot water unit should I couple with it - heat pump? Our existing hot water is a roof solar/electric boost storage unit, about 25 years old.

Note our house has gas too.

    • +1

      Instant Gas. So cheap.

      • ^ yep wot he saz. why heat water when you're not using it?
No tank, no running out of hot water.

        • But another supply charge. You really need to crunch the numbers.

        • @Steptoe:
          Well they did say

Note our house has gas too.

          So I guess not

        • Yep, pay supply charge on gas whether you use it or not. I'm in the exact same predicament, big solar unit on the roof taking up valuable real estate for panels. And only have gas for the cooktop. Think I might have it changed over beforehand.

        • @supabrudda:

I'm willing to cut the gas off though. House will need some form of heating though.

Everything needs re-doing as it's so old, including air-con (currently an ancient evap system). So I've got a clean slate to work with

        • @justtoreply: I believe if you have the metre Atco or whoever still charge you for supply - it just came in last year I'm pretty sure. Given the gas itself is cheap it's worth using that. I was thinking about going electric with solar panels however our shower usage is always early in the morning or later at night so going to miss the window anyway.

Unless you got a battery, not sure if it's cost effective for that yet though..

  • I am getting 12 of the same panels installed with a zeversolar inverter for $3000.
    In newcastle.

    Its with Twin Solar.

    • What size inverter?

    • what size system is that? 4.3kw?

  • +1

This is a bit confusing… title says it's for a 6.5KW system, description talks about a 5.0KW system, then you click on the link and see their advert mentions it's $3,500 for a 5.4KW and $3,700 for a 6.4KW system.

Also, the description does mention 18 panels at 360W which = 6480W ~6.5KW.

Unless… they're trying to offer Ozbargain users the 6.4KW system for $3,500?

    • Neither have the 360W Trina Panels, so the details clearly aren’t in the link.

      • +1

True, I didn't even notice that in the advert, good spotting.

Rep, can you confirm if this deal is exclusive to Ozb or something?

    • Yes Im confused too, unless this deal has expired?

    • +1

They are taking about 6.5kw worth of panels on a 5kw inverter

    • You are right the web guys didn't get to change that yet but we stand by the offer

  • We bought from eSolar based on the last deal they posted: 6.2kW via 22 Talesun panels. We appreciated their advice and they've been very easy to deal with. The installation took a long time and looks very well done (better than installations on other houses I've noted); the installers seemed to care about how it all came together, and did very neat work with the electrical wiring and conduit. So, we've been happy so far. We paid $3900 for 6.2kW, where this deal means you can pay $3500 for 6.5kW from the same supplier - using less panels. Does anyone have any thoughts on Talesun vs these higher capacity Trina panels?

    • Care to show some photos of the quality install?

    • I paid 10,400 for 6.54kw Sunpower in Sydney. Trina is middle of the pack in quality but have not heard about Talesun. LG offers very good value for money with 25 years warrenty (one of the two companies to offer it in Australia).

  • Can I pay you $1000 for travel to the east coast lol, would still work out cheaper!

  • how much to add battery backup?

    • I would say yes for now but we are working on that

    • Currently we are offering 8 KW $ 7000

  • Can we get it at this price in Darwin rep?

  • +1

There has been too many Solar cowboys in Australia. If your are planning to get one, make sure you add monitoring on top of it. Do your homework, be vigilante. Haven't heard much of e-Solar, however, seems like that they are doing a good job according to Solar Quotes.

    https://www.solarquotes.com.au/installer-review/esolar/

    Reference about Solar monitoring,

    https://support.solarquotes.com.au/hc/en-us/articles/1150012…

    • make sure you add monitoring on top of it.
      oh why's that?

      • I'm curious too. Paying for stats? No thanks.

Although I have a commercial power meter, I think common sense would suffice for initial setup (changing when high power devices are used)

After that.. why would you need to look at the stats?

Seems like money for little to nothing. The internet-of-things is not always useful.

    • We have been going a long while…not shouting as much but always been there for our clients

    • Hi Yao93,

I'm considering getting one. No monthly subscription, just initial purchase cost, plus install if you are not handy.

  • Would be nice if the rep replied to some comments and PMs. Not really instilling confidence. I'm borderline ready to go elsewhere.

    • +1

If you are in WA, I would recommend Perth Solar Force. Speak to Nathan.

      • Thanks. Will give them a buzz. Hopefully they can cut me a similar if not better deal!

        • By all means shop around…also ask companies how long they have been operating for…

    • I am so Sorry….for whatever reason we don't get posts by email as we used to. Nee to watch the post live from now on

      • My Account -> Subscriptions -> Notifications -> Check the "Email" checkbox

        • THANK YOU!!! For some reason email notification was unchecked…..

    • you are right …it was not out of indifference. Just now I have realised the posts were not relayed by email….

  • Hi Rep,
I am interested in this offer.
    What extra costs are possible?
Where do you normally install the inverter?

  • The only extra costs to consider are the change of meter from Synergy which they will charge you direct depending on whether you have an old analog meter or a smart one already in place.

The inverter you can put it anywhere around the house. Most people prefer inside garages and car ports others elsewhere. From our prospective it's always best away from the sun

    • Thanks for the quick reply.

We have a very old meter (definitely not smart) - do you know the rough amount that Western Power charges?

Is it best for the inverter to be closer to the panels, closer to the meter box, or doesn't matter?
Is very high up under the eaves OK?

  • If you have an old meter the single phase replacement is about $150 - $170.

No need for the inverter to be closer to the panels or the meter box, unless your house is much much bigger than average in WA.

Under the heaves is fine however there are space requirements around the inverter that have to be maintained.

    • Great.
This is good timing as I am about to consider one of the EOFY deals from the weekend papers:
      http://sunterra.com.au/perth-solar-winter-mega-sale/
      $2999 for 6.6kw

Also Koala Solar $2974 for 6.5kw (not on their website).

Aside from installation work & how long each company has been around, I would appreciate your comments on the differences in the hardware included in each of these deals compared to the $500+ extra cost of your offer.

      • We offer Trina Solar because they have had long quality track record in an industry where plenty of manufacturer come and go. After 30 years in this industry we tend to become more conservative and don't easily believe claims and promises from new entrants.

jinko was founded in 2006, Trina Solar 1997…we rather stick to Trina.

Also solar panels prices vary with the Watts. The smaller panels are cheaper than that more powerful ones.

About other companies I cannot comment and you can make a better assessment. However how long a company has been going consistently in this troubled industry is more important than any offering of the day. It takes only 1-2 bills where your system is not working and all these price differences don't matter much anymore.

        • Fair enough - I guess you are saying that we are less likely to have an issue with the Trina & if we do you will fix it quickly to maximise power savings?
I assume the inverter you are using is the same as the other two offers, so the only difference is the panels?
I presume "Double Glass" refers to glass on the top & bottom of the panel?
How long have you been operating compared to the other two offers?
          Thanks for your help.

  • All I am saying is that we feel comfortable with Trina as a long established manufacturer. Nothing wrong with jinko or other Tier 1 panels which are very reputable and reliable. However currently Trina and Talesun fit our requirements perfectly.

    Yes Glass top and bottom.

We have been in Solar since 1987 Europe, Africa, Middle East and in Perth since 2003.

    • A few more questions:
      Does the inverter have wifi?
I've heard some inverters are noisy, do you find the model you have included very quiet?
What brand of racking do you use?
Do you employ your installers, or are they subcontractors?
Thanks for helping us with the minefield of comparing solar installations.
What are the details of the warranty? In particular the panels, inverter, workmanship, roof leaks?

      • Yes that inverter and all the inverters we supply come with WiFi

The noise used to be more with transformer inverters years ago but these days are all Transformer Less

However all inverters in summer can make a slight noise if operating in a very hot environment so best to put them where there is good ventilation

We use standard Grace Solar Racking

Only sub contractors with whom we have partnered for a long time now. We find that we have better control over the quality of work as opposed to when we had our in house installers. This means that our installation costs are higher than other companies most of the time but client satisfaction is way better overall.

Panels warranty is standard, such 25 years performance (80% efficiency) 12 years manufacturing. Inverters 5 standard on the Zever Solar model offered but can be extended to 10 for additional $150. Otherwise Fronius and ABB are offering currently 10 years
