Unlimited Free Trial for "Savable" - a Cashback Aggregation and Notification Tool

3480

Short version:
Savable is a chrome/firefox extension which aggregates the most popular cashback deals, and displays in an intuitive and non-disruptive way. With Savable, you not only will never miss a cashback deal, but also be able to choose the best deal available to you, and apply them in just one click. Please check this 30 sec video on how it works: https://youtu.be/kEpEDTZW4vo

Long version:
I bought a bike for my son from RebelSport online a few weeks ago. Right after I clicked the "Confirm Payment" button I realized that I forgot to use cashrewards which could have saved me a good $10. Even worse, I then found that shopback was doing a promotion and had 15% cashback with Rebel that day. As an ozbargainer, you know my feeling…..

I then realized that a tool might be useful to notify cashback deals whenever you shopping online. After some research, I found both cashrewards and shopback have their own extension, but they are way too intrusive. I wanted to use them both, but their big popups just stack with each other.

So I decided to create my owner version. After a few weeks of hard work, I published the small tool called "Savable" in both chrome and firefox. I liked it at it is both useful and not that intrusive. Unfortunately, chrome extensions are not available on mobile devices so you can only use it with your pc/laptop. You can use it with Firefox mobile but I haven't optimized the user experience for mobile usage yet. Please let me know if you want to use a mobile version so I will put some effort into it.

I plan to charge $0.99 for the tool to cover the on-going server cost. But happy to provide an unlimited free trial version to the ozbargain community as I saved a lot from here (akka spent a lot). All feedbacks are welcome.

—Disclaimer—
Technically I can see what people are browsing after they install the plugin - as most of the browser plugin does, but I don't record them. I only check if there is cashback for the site users are browsing, if there is, then shows the deals.

    • Thank you, fixed

  • Nice, thanks! The tiny icon in the address bar could be improved, it now looks like a shapeless pink blob.

    • +1

Haha, that's a free icon I got online somewhere.

  • Looks great, perfect to pair with Honey. I've been lazy with cashbacks so this should help

    • A friend told me about Honey, great tool.

  • Can you please, please enable for Safari? :) :)

    • +2

Safari extension is very different from Chrome and FF. There are big portion of people on Safari though, I'll investigate. Thanks.

      • This big portion of people could always install Chrome or Firefox. Don't waste your time :)

    • Hi, pls follow this page https://www.facebook.com/pg/Savable-1895527473833148 if you'd like a Safari plugin

  • It says "Price Unavailable" and the install button is grayed out for Chrome.

    • Maybe related to your locale settings. I enabled US and UK now, can you please try again.

  • Good chosen name

  • One advantage over CashRewards Chrome extension, is on websites that choose to not display a pop up (e.g. https://www.danmurphys.com.au/) the Savable one still works. Thumbs up!

  • I tried installing it for Chrome and it shows me "Price Not Available" instead of Install and the button remains grayed out. Is there any location dependency?

    • I only enabled it in AU. Looks like several ppl got the same issue, so I enable for UK and US as well. Please try again.

  • I m getting try it now and buy for 0.99..

    Thanks

    • Thank you very much, my first paid customer, haha.

Uh Oh!!! Both Cashrewards & Shopback Rep's don't suggest using this extension (Will invalidate any claims) Nothing stopping using it just to check the best offer and then click through from the applicable site however

I will sign up… but not get much use until there is a Safari extension.

  • Thanks OP, you've helped me by letting me save 2% instead of 1% by using shopback instead of cashrewards.

  • +3

Thank you heaps OP, this is awesome! I'm surprised no one else appears to have commented but I love the little piggy bank. Great job and appreciate that you are sharing with the community.

  • Nice.

  • Thanks for your work OP

  • Great work OP! Love the fact that you decided to do something about the problem. Will try it out and happy to pay once Safari version is out as it is my main browser.

  • this is awesome! i’d also be happy for the safari version. Excellent work OP

  • It says "Price Not Available" on chrome and it won't let me install? :/

  • Great work looks good and installed perfectly for me :)

  • Works great, love the pig.

  • I’m floored by your talent and initiative, OP!

I do 90% of my online shopping on my iPhone. Totally in favour of paying 99c (or more) for some sort of iOS Safari solution!

I'd like to thank everyone here for your support and all the valuable feedbacks.

By far I got quite a few requests to create a Safari extension. I am still not decided yet. The reason: 1) it will take some time as Safari solution is very different to Chrome/FF 2) I have to pay Apple $150 to develop something which sounds ridiculous. 3) I don't have a channel to talk to you guys even when it is available.

So I created a facebook page If you'd like a Safari plugin, or other features, please let me know through the facebook page.
I'll start working on safari if more than 100 people asked for it.

  • I could not download Chrome version from NZ location, just said price not available . Using a USA VPN it worked fine and downloaded and installed.
Installing the Firefox version was fine from NZ.
    Best of luck

  • is it still free?

    • yes, it is

Is your website down? been having difficulty opening it up in Chrome.

    • It is.

    • +2

Got about 1000 users and the small VM is struggling with traffic. Woke up 5 am today and upgraded to a much bigger server, should be able to handle 10k users now :)

  • Says 99cents in Chrome?

    • +2

You can click the "try now" button.

      • Thanks!

  • Hey OP, request for another cashback site. RebateMango?

    Found it from here haha.

  • Niubility!

  • This is great. Just to see the icon helps to remember to get the cash back. I often forget. Thanks OP.

  • +1

Would be great to have "groups" as well e.g. hotels.com, wotif.com, lastminute.com, expedia.com all are exactly the same with the same prices etc often the only difference is who currently has the highest cashback.

Would be great if you were shopping e.g. on hotels.com it could show the best cashback from each cashback site for each of the members of these groups

  • +2

Great tool, thanks OP! Can just manually visit the preferred site if they won't honor the cashback
Would it be possible to add in comparisons to say the Velocity, Qantas Points, ANZ points etc bonus point malls as well? They sometimes offer very competitive rebates if you are, like myself happy to take points over cash.

    • +2

Thanks, I didn't know about the bonus points rebate thing. Seems to be good candidates

    • You can sometimes get both if you go from velocity store to ebay then to CR so will likely work for other retailers with referral link transfers.

Might be worth if you can add special points offers from flybuys when available.

This is great. I forgot to turn on cashrewards twice the other day. So frustrating. It resets my whole ordering process as well, taking me to the home page. Crap plugin. Thanks mate!

  • +1

    Well done OP!

I would prefer the site notifications being less intrusive. With other plugins I use, when I visit a relevant site, the plugin icon on the toolbar changes from disabled greyed out state to enabled coloured state.

Maybe it could be a plugin setting whether to display notifications from the page or from the toolbar icon, then the user can decide.

So I started reading this thread and WELL …. it’s just all too technical for me 🤣 I just wanna say awesome initiative OP ! I’m thinking the cash back sites won’t like this ease of comparison (May invalidate tracking) and I assume that they will currently be trying to make it so 😔 P.S And how do I buy in to this !!

  • +1

Paid the 99 cents to purchase! Loving the fact you can compare which cashback site gives you the most return! Looking forward to future updates! Also so handy it adds a whitelist to adblock plus!

    • thank you!

  • +1

Thanks for your work. Great app. But can I make a suggestion, have an option to only display that list of sites when you hover or click on the pig instead of displaying them when you load the page (albeit for a couple seconds). We know there is cashback available from that pig and displaying that big list is rather intrusive IMO.

    • +2

That makes sense. My initial thought is to notify ppl that cashback is available, but once you got used to the tool, the piggy is enough. I'll make a change that it will only show it once when you first installed, then never show the list again.
This needs an extension update. I will let you know once I published a new version

  • Having tried the plugin I think there is certainly room for improvement. The area I am concerned with is the ajax response in your content script contains a custom script to be run, apart from injecting html etc. Though now it is empty, there is no guarantee that is not in the future. This is serious security issue. The piggy popup can probably be done in the browser action popup fashion (i.e. the extension icon) which is less interference with the page. There is also some html attribute values in your html response you may consider to be quoted as well. Having seen comments from SB or CR, I think there may be a need to for a test case to prove that your plugin works despite their comments, otherwise what is the point for using the plugin right? Anyway this is a good effort and good start, keep it up.

    • +1

I have been using it just to remind me to use a cashback site and compare them. Then I go through that site to purchase. Even just for that functionality it is great.

  • Awesome to have points recommendations, Maybe they should be grouped and a different colour to cashbacks :)

  • I wonder if you could do a deal with the rewardgateway folk for them to send you a list of their cashback offers, as through my employer, this is often (but not always) better than cashrewards etc

    https://www.rewardgateway.com/au

    • Hey kcbworth, thanks for your advice. My employer also provides rewardgateway as an employee perk. I had a look and found their offers are actually generous.
Not sure whether I can get their list or not, but I will wait for my safari plugin (under Apple's review now). I guess I will have a better chance with more user bases.

      • If you do get it, maybe make it a setting that people have to turn on rather than show it to everyone

        • Yep, this needs some proper design.

  • i tried to click ' try now ' but nothing happens.. is it just me?
and confirm its still Unlimited Free Trial?

    • it is still a free trial, not sure what happened, maybe try install again?

  • Sweeeet

This plugin no longer seems to work. Anyone else have the same problem?

    • +1

Yes i have the same problem - it's stopped working for me too.

    • +4

Sorry, the SSL certificate was expired. Fixed now. Cheers.

      • Thanks. Appreciate it.

      • It worked yesterday - but appears to be not working this morning :(

I did buy some things yesterday though so it helped me then thanks!

        • My server hosting provider had an incident yesterday and only fixed it this morning :(

  • Trying to install on Mac safari, it says not available in Australian store?

  • +1

Just installed now. Not planning on buying anything in the immediate future but will be sure to post here/contact you if I have any feedback/issues. Keep up the great work!

  • can you add pokitpal, plastiq.it, qpay and any other smaller cashback companies?

  • Website down and not working anymore?

    • Yes, the data became a bit stale and unfortunately I don't have time to maintain it anymore.
