Are these the type you +/- 2kgs every time you weigh yourself?

    • +1

+/- a kilo or so is actually quite normal in a day. Water retention, meals, etc actually add a decent amount of weight. That's why they suggest if you're monitoring your weight to take the measurement around the same time every day.

Clothing can also add couple of kilos, so if you're wearing heavy vs light clothes can make a difference too, which again is why either wearing the same clothes (i.e. underwear, pyjamas) or taking your weight nude would be best.

      • Thanks for the essay. Was actually just referring to the accuracy of these.

        • Wasn't sure if you meant a second weighing immediately after or later in the day/next day.

Of course +/- 2kgs immediately after is no bueno.

    • -1

Nope. It's the type that says the same weight every single time, even after chucking down 1 litre of water.

  • They are consistent, but sensitive to any dip or slope on the floor, and useless on carpet. Much like any other bathroom scales really…

    • +1

Yes difficult if you don't have a flat floor in the room you want them in but apart from that - wouldn't it be as simple as moving the scale around a few flat places at home and taking your weight at each location and then make sure the consistant number displays at the location you actually want them?

      • A good plan. I got this one last year for the same price, and it has been consistent in its reading [morning, after 'ablutions' but before breakfast] if used on a level spot. I'd double check it with a doctor's estimate, but I so hate it when they come over all sarcastic….

Regardless of the manufacturers' claims, they are indicative only. The variance in the reading would be irrelevant when compared to the 1/4 Kg of a mug of tea, ~0.3 Kg of the last meal, whether or not one had just defecated or urinated…

Hmmm, sounds like I'll have to weigh up my options before deciding to go ahead with this purchase

    • Well you need the purchase to weigh your options. Chicken and egg situation.

Bought one during last offer a few weeks back and happy with the spend.

Sounds like it tells you less than what you really are? :P

the weight loss more likely to be caused by the reduction of 9 gold coins' weight.

    • How quickly do they settle on a weight? My experience with electronic scales (particularly cheap ones) is they lock in too quickly, like <2 seconds before everything (my gut) has stabilised, hence you can take 5 readings one after the other and they'll span about 2 kgs.

Edit: which I suspect is what @footyboy was getting at above.

      • This is not an issue with these. The time-to-measurement is just right in my opinion, compared to some I've used in the past that actually took too long.

I understand that this is a steal however there are mixed reviews on it, stating inaccurate readings etc.
So it's best to get one that does the job all the time and accurately i say.
    Cheers

  • I got these during the last deal and the battery it came with was dead. I couldn't be bothered going to the store for an exchange so swapped it myself with one I had on hand (extra few bucks).

That aside, I have actually been happy with these, especially considering that I have gone through a bunch of pricier electronic scales over the years with various issues.

I also compared these with my really old mechanical Krups, which I've been using after my last electronic fat measuring scales died, and these were showing 1 kg more and I actually tend to trust these.

  • Thought it was called a Welfare Class Scale. I wondered why there would be a deal on such a thing.

  • Nothing listed about the measurement increments. Some measure to the nearest 50 grams, some to 100 grams and others to 500 grams. The lower the better if you want accurate results.

  • I have had this before. I stood on it a few times and it smashed to a million pieces. Harvey Norman refused to replace blaming the incorrect use and weight limit that it has. Meh

    • Troll?

        Troll?

Not at all. Deadset. I had no refund or replacement.

  • Stopped reading at Harvey Norman.
