Be careful of these guys I ordered a whole bunch last time they had a special and I think my leather shoes would have been easier to chew than what they provided.

    • +2

I've never bought jerky before and I took up the last offer before. Didn't know if all jerky was like that or not.

      Sore jaw!

    • If you are anywhere near the Gold Coast (QLD) I suggest you take a drive to Silvers Beef Jerky, for literally the best jerky I've ever had. And I'm one picky mofo with my jerky.
All of his stuff will take you 5 minutes to chew, without being fatty, tough, or overly dry. It's literally what jerky is meant to be.
I think too many people have been spoilt by biltong, and expect jerky to be "edible" without 30+ seconds of committed chewing.

I'm going to take a drive to Geronimo and sample their 'new batch'.
I've driven more than 2 hours to get to a supposedly 'good jerky' store, and these guys are local to me, so why not try this 'new batch'?
      Verdict still out for me.

Riverina jerky is better than Silvers I think. Their pork jerky is to die for.

      • +1 for Silver's but why oh why don't they do bulk packs?

        • its a 2 man operation out of 1 store.

I imagine supply wouldnt meet demand.

        • @MasterScythe:

I reckon they can pack some into 500g bags or at least do a better discount when buying 10x80g packets.

Seems like profit motive to me, but I take your point too.

        • @ozbjunkie:
Oh no doubt, it'd be naive to think that a single man, operating a family business isn't mainly focused on income.
          He needs to support himself.

That said, I have a very close friend (we track (race) cars together), who owns a butcher.
And he was fairly impressed with Silvers prices.

Obviously it's hard to figure out once dried, and I'm no butcher, but apparently the cuts he's using are super good.

And a big win for Silver was also that he doesn't use Floue to speed the drying. Which means that, unlike most jerkys, there is 0 gluten.
So my two Coeliac mates got to enjoy it with me.

"Quality price, for a quality product" IMO.

        • @MasterScythe:

Yep agreed you pay for the quality and if that's the price they need for a decent margin I can understand that.

The meat really is the best texture I have found of the many jerky places I've tried.

          Cheers for the input.

You guys need to do a lot to get customers back. Suggest sending out free samples, so past customers like myself can try your new and improved products.

Products were great in the past. But my recent orders were not up to par. Taste was ok, but its not easy to chew.

  • +39

Geronimo Jerky, you have unfortunately gained a poor reputation on OzBargain due to past business practices and substandard products.

If your product and service has genuinely improved the better long-term strategy may be to offer free samples to win back favour amongst OzBargain members.

Personally, I love beef jerky but wouldn't take a risk with your product until I can confirm it is worth paying for.

OzBargain Members, consider this comment an informal poll, if you agree upvote it, if you disagree downvote it.

  • +2

Why haven't you bothered to address customer concerns? Every single time there has been problems you'll disappear until the next deal and return with some excuse on how you've improved.

  • +2

Have to align with the other responses, the last batch I ordered was horrible, and I won't order again until it can be proven the quality of the product has changed.

  • From orders not being delivered to a product that I wouldn't feed my dog. Will wait for new ownership.

  • -1

I bought during the last deal, so no dice… piss off.

    • +2

      RUOK

  • I had been tempted a few times but the feed back has never been good for me to pull the trigger on these

    • +2

It's horrendous, not fit for human consumption. Buy at your own risk.

      • What? The worst I heard from the previous deals was that it was cut too thin and dried out too much. What was wrong with your order that it was "not fit for human consumption"?

        • Consider comments on previous deals

It was genuinely near impossible to chew or even bite off. It was pretty obvious that they made in a rush and didn't cook slowly, like you're supposed to for jerky.

        • My tooth fell off from these jerks.

        • Tough as nails, smells bad, weird aftertaste.

        • @dingdong3000: *Jerky

        • @dingdong3000: Was it a cap?
Just curious, because it's really rare for food that isn't sticky to pull teeth. (Damn you redskins!!!!!)

        • +1

@MasterScythe: No it wasn't. My tooth cracked open from consistently chewing these jerky then became loose. It was like proper tough as hell.. hurt so bad :(

        • @dingdong3000: So did mine!

"Hell hath no fury like an OzBargainer scorned!"

  • Yeah, have ordered these a few times and initially they were great. They've really fallen away though, and I stopped ordering about 2 years ago.

  • +1

I ordered some on the 13th (which i still havent received). Tracking says delivery from 25th-2nd July!. Thats a slow courier service. Anyway, il advise the quality when it arrives. Im with everyone else, if this lot is rubbish thats it for Geronimo Jerky. I wish them luck.

  • +2

Gross jerky and dodgy business practices. Avoid!

  • +3

Used to be a massive fan. Bought hundreds of dollars worth and loved it. the last two orders since reopening have been woeful. thin. hard to chew. flavourless. not enjoyable at all.

A real shame. I used to love it. Won't be ordering again.

  • +1

I've always been curious about these as some of the earlier reviews were great. I will be definitely staying away now though!

  • +3

Going off the comments this deal looks like it's a bit hard to swallow.

  • +1

Free samples for anyone who purchased in the past year or we will never believe you.

    • lol they tried giving out samples a few years ago and some people complained for years that they didn't get the samples. Have a look through the real old ozbargain deals and you will find people complaining about it.

      • +2

I see it brother, that's why I have alerts for these deals and slam them every time - well, that and the product I received was trash.

        • How do you set alerts for a specific type of deal?

        • +1

          @kiriakoz:

Click on the posters name to go to their profile page, and "subscribe" to their posts. Can also be done with stores, and with individual product search terms eg "PS4".

Let me know if that doesn't help and I'll post a step by step answer, at work ATM.

        • @ozbjunkie: Sorry for the delay. This worked fine, thanks for showing me how.

  • My order I placed on 13/6 arrived on 20/06.

My order somehow went through twice - so I received 2 bags seperately - but only charged once - so thanks for that :)

This jerky is still tougher than other brands of jerky, but definitely softer than it was back when they were good and well respected by OzB - so perhaps their spiel on their new meat is correct.

I'd say give them another try. I know they have f&&ked up in the past.

  • I have ordered previously and loved it - A while back though.
I have just ordered 3 x 200g, original, sharman and blazin. I will post reviewing the quality when i receive them.

  • The typical Geronimo response to concerns - staying quiet and not bothering to comment at all while still logging in regularly lol.

  • Was about to give them one more chance, but it appears the coupon has expired early. Messaged the rep, waiting for a reply.

    • Hey Adam,
      Just replied

      • We put end date as the 26th and and the system automatically ends it as soon as it hits that date.
We've decided to extend the sale till 01/07/18 for your benefit.
        Enjoy :)

        • Cool, thanks for that Tash.

        • +1

          Hi Natasha ,

Is what you contacted me on Friday still happening? No response from yourself after I responded.

          Regards

  • Made an order on the 18/3, nothing received, emailed twice with no reply

    • Hello Meliorist,

I am hunting for your email-Did you send to [email protected] or private message here?
I cant see anything in our followup message?

Could you please send me a private message so I can chase up :-) I will get onto it and get it fixed.

This stuff is back to its brilliant best.
Just received my order and it was like the first few batches i ever ordered! Delicious.

    • Yep, my order has been received. Can confirm. Much better product now.

      • Same for me.

Next good deal I'll be ordering again.

  • +1

So after my bad experience Geronimo reached out and sent me a sample.

In the PM the rep identified 3 issues with the meat, delivery times and customer communication. They assured me that they've set out to make the jerky softer/tastier, purchase of a new dehydrator to double production and the hiring of a customer service rep to communicate to customers.

I gotta say that their samples were definitely heaps better than my previous experiences! The jerky is back to being a proper thickness and not rock hard. While their jerky is still one of the most dry I've had it's still easy to chew and pull apart. I find that it actually goes really well with beer. Flavour was also strong in all samples I tried but not overpowering like Chewy Mooey.

My hope is that they'll be able to deliver under pressure in future.

    • We're glad to hear that you've enjoyed our new jerky!

Thankyou for your positive feedback and we hope to see future purchases.

      Have a great week,
      Tash
