  • 1070 ti vs 1080?

    • +9

      1080

    • According to this site, 1080 beats the 1070ti by only 8%… (I had assumed it would be more than this)
      http://gpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Nvidia-GTX-1080-vs-Nvid…

    • +3

the 1070 ti is closer in performance to the 1080 than it is to the 1070.

    • +2

1080 for gaming, 1070ti for mining.
There's a $650 1080 in another deal, get that instead.

      • Will they accept Verge coins?

        • Hope you didn't buy the peak lol.
I'll happily spend xmr and zec on things.

  • +4

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/386070

Same price as 1080 here. Get that 1080 instead

    • +2

1080 is definitely better option, while they have stock.

    • Agree with the sentiment but unfortunately its sold out now

    • Is that brand good quality and reputable? I've only seen listings from this company on Aliexpress and Gearbest so I'm not too sure myself

      • Good quality: no
        Reputable: no

  • +1

The VR900 Was $199 now $220 Save $21. I don't think that is correct lol.

    • +2

haha save negative twenty one dollars

When you click through, it is 199 on their site…maybe it used to be 220.

  • Is the 580 still worth buying?

    • What do you mean?

      • I think he meant: RX580 at RX570's current RRP price is tempting, not to mention it is 8GB model… but is it still a good graphics card to get given that we know nVidia's next gen offering is coming (and both Sony and Microsoft have unofficially / officially announced they are working on next gen consoles)? RX580 is roughly offering same GPU performance as an XB1X.

        • But it has nothing to do with "worth" right? It sounds like he was going to ask if it is worth getting a 580 to do mining rather than worth getting 580 to use?

Every card is worth their value even when it is RRP.

    • For eth mining it's probably not going to get ROI at this point.
For DirectX gaming it's great value and 8gb should last years.
For OpenGL (eg. Cemu), get a 1060 instead.

    • Do you have a freesync monitor. Mine is I think, though it’s not documented. It’s sorth it to me to forget about dealing with tearing altother. If you have gsync monitor get nvidia for sure.

  • Should i get a 570 or 580 to replace my 1060 3gb?

    • +2

No, not worth it. 1060 3GB just a little bit slower than RX580:

      http://gpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Nvidia-GTX-1060-3GB-vs-…

1060 6GB is pretty much on par with RX580:

      http://gpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Nvidia-GTX-1060-6GB-vs-…

      • The decision will be long term, would VRAM be a factor as well?

        • Yes, it would. Also, the RX 580 is definitely better at directX 12, which is more future-proof.

        • In the long term, do you expect graphics card prices to rise? AMD already announced Vega. nVidia will release Volta GPU based cards soon.

Currently, it is not the lack of VRAM making the 3GB model slower, it is nVidia reduced the number of CUDA cores (from 1280 to 1152) that's the main reason for the reduced performance.

Sony is waiting for AMD Navi for PS5 - which implies even Vega is not quite enough for PS5.

          The price is quite tempting.

        • +1

It is definitely not worth getting a 570/580 to replace your 1060 3gb. Minimal performance increase for $300 dollar, totally not worth it.

Might as well sell the 1060 3gb and put a little bit more to get a 1070/1080 since the price is pretty good now.

    • Most games require 4GB for High settings now. The 3GB is a bottlenck unless you're happy with medium settings.

      • It is more exact for high texture, not even high settings. So you can lower the textures alone and be fine.

    • That would not even be an upgrade for a lot of games. The 580 beats the 1060 on some specific scenarios. It probably is overall around 5% faster.

      • Some games are slower. Many are a good few frames faster. Driver support can be spotty with some games, but overall you should be fine. Nvidia is the safe route.

  • Would you guys consider that RX580 to be the best value for money in gfx card?

Looking for something to play GTA V nicely at 1080p reso (I don't know how many fps is considered "good")

    • +3

I would, yes. It depends a little on what you're wanting to play and what resolutions, but yes.
GTA 5, being direct x 11 and an nVidia optimized title, will run better on the 1060 6GB. In this case, the 1060 3GB and the 580 8GB are the same speed.

    • This Asus TOP edition with its giant oversized cooling is the best RX580 to buy, as the chip does produce a fair bit of heat under load.

      • which is perfect for these cold winter days

        • I feel sorry for all the Gigabyte Aorus RX580 owners. A friend has one and its a noisy bastard whilst gaming due to is much smaller size & cooling solution.

        • @xuqi:

Do you think it's worth the upgrade from an ancient Gtx560Ti?

        • +2

          @montorola:

          http://gpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Nvidia-GTX-560-Ti-vs-AM…

The 560Ti with its limited (1GB?) of Ram is far older & slower than the Asus RX580.

  • Would i see a worthwhile improvement on a 570/580 upgrading from an r9 380? I only play a bit of pubg here and there

    • +1

      I wouldn't bother upgrading from a R9 380.

      • Ok thanks!

    • I upgraded from a R9 380 4GB to the same RX 580 a while back and the difference is pretty noticeable for me.

  • would the r580 be strong enough to get 144fps on games like dirt rally/project cars if i set the resolution to 2560x1080 at mid to high graphics?

    • +1

i have a 580 on ultrawide and i get about 60-100fps on high settings, so 144fps may be stretching it a bit

      • Thanks so much, =D
helps give me a clearer picture!

  • Currently rocking a Sapphire R9 290 Tri-x on my 3440x1440 monitor. Would it be worth it upgrading to a 8GB RX580?

    • +2

Depends on what framerates you want and what settings you play at. RX580 I think doesn't have enough grunt to guarantee solid 60fps on 1440p resolution if you're turning on all the extra effects.

You might want either the 1070 or 1080, or you could wait until August and see what cards are on offer with Turing on the way.

    • +1

RX 480/580 trade performance wins with the R9 290X/390X, some games the newer cards are a little faster, some games the opposite is true. I personally don't think it would be worth the upgrade for the sake of 4GB of RAM and a bit lower power consumption. You'd need a faster card to see meaningful performance improvement.

    • Rocking the same card as you. Decided to wait Navi 10 GPU. Double the graphic processing for roughly the same price segment.

    • No, don't do it. The RX580 is great for gaming @ 1080P, good for 1440P, but downhill fast for anything more.

      • Downhill fast sounds pretty fast to me

    • +2

I'm in the same shoe with my R9 290, and for me, the RX580 isn't a big enough upgrade so I'll wait for the Vega 56 to drop in price and also upgrade my monitor to an ultra wide 1440p like you did. Lucky for me I can wait since I'm still on 1080p and the R9 290 can handle that fairly well.

  • +3

Just so you know, it's on their eBay store for the same price, and you can use 'pull5' for an extra 5% off and eBay Plus trial for free shipping. Total: $341.05.

    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Asus-Radeon-ROG-STRIX-RX580-T8G-…

    • +4

I would rather wait for the ebay Plus 15% discount to kick-in !! DONT BUY today

      • Good idea

      • Wait what's this? I'm out of the loop here.

      • +1

I'd rather buy today and know for certain they'll have stock and/or won't be pulled from their eBay store.

If you wait and you get one at 15% off though, congratulations. Sick price.

        • …looks like I was right in buying today. 0 in stock on eBay now. Haha.

    This just in:

One of NVIDIA’s Major OEM Partners Allegedly Returned 300,000 GPUs, Major Inventory Issues Being Cited For Next-Gen GeForce Launch Delay

    https://wccftech.com/nvidia-oem-partner-300k-gpu-inventory-i…

NVIDIA seems to be having lots of trouble managing their GPU inventory or the excess of it as highlighted in new reports from Taiwanese based sources. Now the inventory issues may have exploded at NVIDIA HQ since a major Taiwanese OEM has allegedly returned 300,000 GPU units back to NVIDIA, that may end up causing a delay for the next-gen GeForce parts."

What I'm getting from this article is that there's going to be a massive oversupply of GPUs soon that will drive the prices down even more.

    • +1

Thanks for the heads up, looks like I'll wait it out lol

    • Sigh now AMD is taking over the GPU market too, goodbye Nvidia & Intel!

  • Grabbed the RX580 great price

  • Is RX580 good for crossfire ?

    • +1

Nothing is good for crossfire of SLI. 1 single card will always beat 2 cards in SLI / crossfire for the same price.

  • -1

i do not recommend anyone to buy an Galax

    • +3

      Care to elaborate?

  • Anyone know the difference between the white and black Galax 1070 ti is?

    • Uhm, not color, is it?

      • As jet says, i think its just color for those people who have see through cases and are aiming for some synergy in the look.

  • The 570 info section says "EOL note: These is CLEARANCE Product, limited quantity(normally less than 5), which is available on a first-come, first-serve basis while stock last. The product(s) will vary in condition and might be an Ex-Demo or damaged packaging. " Yet the stock estimator says there's stock in every store.

  • Has anyone here managed to undervolt and overclock their RX 580? Since I have the GTX 970 but freesync monitors, I wonder if RX 580 (undervolt if possible) or Vega 56 (with undervolt) is significantly better.

    • RX 580

I'd stick with the GTX 970 to be honest

      Vega 56 (with undervolt)

Yeah this would be a lot better, the under-volt is important though.

  • Grabbed one RX580

  • +1

Free copy of FarCry 5 for the RX580 buyers!

    http://www.msy.com.au/viconline/743-buy-rx-580-or-rx-vega-ge…

    • Vega buyers also gets the free copy of Far Cry 5. I noticed the Vega prices dropped another ~$30 today. Vega 56 Strix is now $699
