Do a little research for Ryzen CPUs and RAM speeds. Apparently the faster the RAM speeds on a Ryzen, it makes a significant difference.
I mention this because I came across a few reports about RAM and first series Ryzen having problems. Never looked in to it myself, I jumped straight to a 2700x, which has better RAM compatibility

    • -2

its more that it cant go fast like an intel unless it has high speed RAM. while intel can be fast even with low speed RAM

      • +5

No idea why you're being negged, you're completely right. AMD Ryzen chips, because of its CCX architecture, needs high RAM speeds to keep speeds between its different cores high. Intel doesn't have this limitation.

Of course - an AMD Ryzen chip plus even 3200Mhz RAM, will be better performance-per-dollar, than the Intel equivalent.

        • -3

He's being negged because AMD fans are still just as insecure as they ever were.

Ready for my negging to begin. It was nice knowing you HighAndDry, take care of the kids….

@Zylam Marex: sorry, I ran out of negs on other anti-AMD and pro-Intel comments in other threads. I need to recharge for now but I've set a reminder and I'll be back tomorrow. See you soon :)

          @idonotknowwhy:

LOL sounds good buddy, looking forward to our confrontation :D!!

    • Find a link, some discussion about AMD/Intel and RAM - http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-3553452/ram-speed-aff…

    • Yup, agreed. I'd go with 2600Mhz or 2800Mhz RAM if possible. Official support for RAM speeds above that isn't yet there, but you'll see improvements in CPU performance up to that speed.

  • Very nice price on that system. Thats what I get if in the market right now almost all prices are good.

      nice wording, bro.

    • Yes, it looks like a good price. I think I would skip the LED strip though and get it closer to $1100.

  • +3

Bought 2 of the SSDs. Thank you OP. In my opinion, the 120Gb ones from the previous deal is a bit too small for OS.

  • +2

I would personally spend an extra $50 and get a Corsair TX550M 80+ Gold $82.45.

Have heard good things about the ASRock AB350M-PRO4 $75.65.

    Great price on the 1600.

    • Yeah, going for the budget PSUs never works out

    • +11

Yeah that 10-15 extra frames is revolutionary especially price to performance lul $499 for 8700K or $168.3 for 1600 *thinking

    • +3

You could buy the 1600, Motherboard, RAM and SSD for the price of that chip alone. Ridiculous comparison.

    • +2

Nope. For gaming, unless his kid's into serious WWII strategy sims (which use CPU), OP's got a great CPU + GPU mix.

    • wat.

You'd need a 1080 to make that CPU shine

    What an awesome dad!

  • The colour of that case is awful, but great price for the system

  • +2

that ryzen will do very well all around mate, don't listen to the intel idiots

yaay cancelled my 120gb ssd order and bought 240 one :)
    ty

    • How do you cancel your order? Just message the seller or ypu have a botton to select to cancel order?

      • Just message the seller, since today is Saturday you guys still have time to cancel and put a cancellation note under the product

    • Same. Wondering how did you cancel your order lol

      • Put a note to the purchase and send a message to the seller

    • did you get the use of your code back after cancelling? doesn’t say it anywhere in the terms of service

  • Missed 120 GB for $30 but getting the 240GB for $60.

    Nice find OP

  • So I can't apply the coupon before entering my credit card details? Is that right?

  • +3

God damn $168.3 for the 1600 is nuts. I paid 240 not that long ago

  • Up voted for the great effort.

Was happy to buy a 120gb ssd until the prices went up, so pulled the trigger on this 240gb deal instead. Cheers OP

  • Would be HDD Toshiba 5TB be a decent drive for gaming? I can see it's usually $180 on staticice…Is it worth it?

    • Try to use Intel Optane to speed it up?

  • Got a 240gb SSD "just in case" lol

  • bought the ssd a couple month ago for #73 best price at the time. At this price don't think just buy. Unless you are power user you won't notice the difference.

  • Will that ssd work ok in an old laptop with only a SATA 2 connection? I mean, it would only be half speed, but still, at that price, it is worth it to create a newish 2009 MBP!

Edit: don’t really care, I have bought and will find out. If it doesn’t work, it will go into one of those oricco external cases I bought on a recent featured deal but haven’t used,

The word that jumped out at me was GAMING. If you want best price to performance, do your son a favor and go with an i5 8400 and a cheap b360/z370, it'll use less power, give more frames and won't bottleneck a better gpu if he decides to upgrade. It'll cost a little bit more now but would be worth it imo. Benchmarks to prove my point: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vPCFxqsSbfU

  • Thanks

Grabbed the 240gb ssd to upgrade my old dell laptop

    Great price with 15% off…
