G'day OzBargainers!
First deal here (while overseas by the way, sorry for the US $ only). Hope I have followed all the guidelines properly!
Resilio Sync allows you to host your own "Dropbox-like" cloud without centralised servers in between. ADDED: It differs from Dropbox in the fact that it is using p2p technology so you don't have a central server, and instead any client can sync to other clients.
It's secure, use relay servers to work even behind firewalls, and uses BitTorrent technology to move and replicate files through encrypted connections across different devices.
Useful to create live back-up, sending big files to friends/family, and much much more.
Check out the Resilio website for more details.

I'm not associated with them, but I've been using this self-hosted version of Dropbox for a while, and was holding back from buying a Pro licence…until now! The summer sale is on, and I really love their solutions, since it was called BitTorrent Sync.

  • I have to say it's a really nice software.

    • Oh and BTW it doesn't work as described "Dropbox-like". It is using p2p technology so you don't have a central server, and instead any client can sync to other clients, which make it really appealing. It also has (based on their claims as it's not open source) very good encryption during transit.

(based on their claims as it's not open source)

It means we have to trust them but not independent security experts who can audit the code…

      • Thanks for explaining this properly, your description is in fact more accurate than the one in the post. I will amend it. :)

Syncthing is almost exactly the same but it's open source and free, been using it on my seedbox for years and it's never let me down.

    • Syncthing is another great software of this kind and offers similar functionalities. I second that.
I just find Resilio a lot easier to use especially when managing files for my missus and family. Plus, I like the option of sending link to a single file, though I have to say I haven't tried yet!
