I just swapped from a Redmi 5 plus to the sharp Aquos S2. They are both excellent phones. If you need outstanding battery life and a big screen then the Redmi is for you. If you need/want NFC, band 28 and reasonable battery life (i.e not more than a day between charging), Android 8.0 and a 5.5" screen is enough then the Sharp Aquos S2 is amazing for he price and is the better of the two over all. The Xiaomi is fantastic though.
Can you comment on the camera of the Sharp? Any good? How about the ROM it ships with?
The camera on the sharp is dual lens (Redmi 5 is single) I have only taken a few pictures with it and they looked fine to me, I didn't have an issue with the quality of the photos that the Redmi 5 took they were also good. I think the photos just look better on the Sharp because the screen is more vivid.. My Aquos shipped with a Chinese ROM but was simple to flash to the Taiwan rom and then update to Android 8.0.

With my understanding, I think sellers from outside of Australia have to pay GST for goods $1000 or less if they makes sales to Australia.
Only downside is the lack of NFC :( otherwise would be on this.
