These are the new OzBargain eneelop. I have 8tb of ssds and not sure what to do with them yet.

Congratulations on spending a lot of money on a quickly depreciating asset that you have no use for.

I will use this in my microserver instead of the power hungry HDD.

        • Considering the difference is around 5w per drive on average, but you get significantly more storage per watt used with mechanical HDDs over SSDs, that's a bad use for them if you are trying to save power in a server (as I am sure you are aware you won't get any additional speed unless you are running a 10GbE ethernet/fibre connection).

You will end up using a boatload more power if you want to connect 8TB of SSDs than a single 8TB mechanical drive which can be found for around $200 these days.

@c0balt: True but the SSD is more reliable.

        • @Bargain Zombies:

SSDs are not more reliable than a mechanical drive. They both have their positives and negatives. For something like a server which might be used to record security camera footage, it would be a much better choice to go with hard drives rated for 24/7 writes than it would a consumer SSD.

It's much easier to recover data off a mechanical HDD than it is a SSD if they fail also.

        • @c0balt: You do have a point there. Look like I am spoiled and will use this in my home PC. All SSD with no HDD.

        • @c0balt:

SSDs are not more reliable than a mechanical drive

          According to Backblaze they are:
          https://www.backblaze.com/blog/ssd-vs-hdd-future-of-storage/
          https://www.backblaze.com/blog/hdd-vs-ssd-in-data-centers/

While they work (and fail) differently, in general a mechanical HDD will fail sooner than an SSD:
          https://therevisionist.org/reviews/ssd-vs-hdd-one-reliable/

Annual fail rate of SSDs is significantly below that of HDDs:
          https://www.networkworld.com/article/2873551/data-center/deb…

The write endurance of SSDs is more than the majority will ever use. The main caveat is that an SSD is more likely to lose data over time though than a HDD (but simple programs like Puran's DiskFresh can fix that):
          https://www.zdnet.com/article/ssd-reliability-in-the-real-wo…
          http://www.puransoftware.com/DiskFresh.html

In my personal use, I've had loads of HDDs fail over the years and none of the many SSDs I've purchased. Saying that, I've had an ex government machine come with an already malfunctioning SSD.

        • @RJK: I was not aware of DiskFresh software. Thank you for the info and link.

Don't listen to the naysayers, I approve your pathological hoarding.

Voting up for good price. Personally I'm waiting for prices to go $200 or below on these bad boys to pull the trigger.

    Great deal tho! Thanks

same, I have an MX750GB that would get swapped out when the MX500 hits $200.

the old 750 will make a good steam drive.

Strange we aren't seeing much in the way of cheap M.2 NVME, I know crucial only do M.2 SATA, and crucial tend to push the $ per gb momentum, so until they do M.2 NVME the deals might be limited to SATA, but at a great price who cares.

    • Yeah can’t beat the amazon deal

  • Not storage prices keep dropping. Is Crucial to know.

    Samsung aren’t dropping their SSDs…

  • 1TB all gone, too fast!

    • yeah, 2TB is still abit pricey

  • Damnit I just missed out. Out of stock. Too busy changing my registration address back to Australia.

I had to sign up for eBay Plus too.

    • +2

You never know, something else might come around the corner cheaper soon :) It might also come back in stock, not 100% sure yet

      • +1

After the collapse of the Samsung EVO Micro SD card prices last week, I'd say it's actually quite likely.

    • 200

  • Noooo I really needed this deal :( bummer!

  • That was fast

  • Tempted to grab a 2TB drive @ $515… Not bad at all.

    • same but I guess if 1TB was $228, the 2TB would be $450 … but I guess $515 isn't bad.

      • 2TB should be below $450 by principal as we are buying GB in more bulk :)

So no, $515 is not a good deal. Should just get 2x1TB for better cost efficiency

  • <$200 please :D

  • -2

Getting there peeps, lets do this for $100

    • See you in 2020

      • +2

That's only 18 months away. I can wait.

  • Damn good deals with these drives, missed out on this one :( Can't wait to replace my slow on mechanical gaming drive.
