Totally not AFP, who else is using this to make oil?

  • +6

5L should just about do the weekend

    • +1

You're using it wrong, if it lasts that long!

  • +2

    Wasn't this $10 a few days ago?

    • +2

Yes it was, same seller. Not everyone got it though.

Good price, but this is a hell of alot better haha!

    • That deal will always be in my heart

  • +2

Will I end up on a watch list if I buy this?

    • +4

You and half of OzBargain, given the other day.

      • +10

It feels good to be apart of something. Even if it is a watch list.

  • +1

Thks grabbed some, now I wont have to clean the residue meths leaves.

  • +7

Can you add something to your post about this not being drinkable alcohol? I'm not sure how serious some of these posts are (likely not very), but there's always one who doesn't know.

    • +3

Buyer beware. Those people are the reason everything has a warning label.

    • +17

I say let natural selection do its thing.

      • +5

Natural selection also applies to websites too, you know. I can see the ACA story already - OzBargain trolls encouraged my kids to buy and drink poison!

    • +1

True. Microwaving phones and eating tide pods come to mind.

      • +2

Will those pods work in my aldi machine?

  • +2

Thanks, this will refill my Braun automatic cleaning station for years (with a few drops of essential oil thrown in for good measure)

Not as good as the $10 deal but hey, this is so much cheaper than buying it elsewhere.

Also good if you live somewhere with regular frosts like Canberra, can dilute in a spray bottle and keep in the car to get rid of frost easily.

    • +2

We pay $15 for a 20L container for work, so it's possible to get cheaper but not available publicly.

      • Yea but that was $10 shipped from VIC to WA. With the weight, I wonder if it'll even cover the shipping cost

      • Yeah fair enough, I really don't need 20L though and wouldn't be able to store it easily. I can understand wholesale being cheaper but unrealistic for a mere peasant consumer such as myself.

      • Do you run you car off it, at this price $15/20L it's a cheap car fuel. How would you get that delivered.

  • +1

Can I burn this in a lantern and cook marshmallows over this? Does it burn clean?

    • -5

I'm no expert but I'd think all types of alcohol would burn explosively (i.e. molotov cocktail).

      • +3

A Molotov cocktail is petrol in a bottle. And even then it doesn't really explode (though it does go everywhere if the container shatters).

        • Well I guess I assumed it was alcohol because you usually see people using wine bottles, but upon looking it up it seems any flammable liquid will do to be considered Molotov, including alcohol.

        • @mattythecapybara: Huh, didn't know they used alcohol too. Alcohol doesn't really burn with the thick clouds of smoke you see in photos/videos.

  • -1

    "Can't really beat that"

Yes you can, the 15L I had delivered for $25 from last weeks deal ;)

      Let me find my DeLorean..

    • -1

are you cleaning some dead bodies?

  • Many thanks OP. :O]

  • +3

Honestly, what does one need 5 litres of this for? I've got some of this in a 200ml spray bottle and it's great for cleaning stuff but it lasts a long long time.

    • -3

      Makes cheap pre-drinks bruh

EDIT: It's a joke, just incase anyone thinks I'm being serious. DO NOT DRINK THIS.

    • Cleaning electronics, hell can even bath a motherboard or whole retro computer. I scored a free ultra sonic cleaner so I will probably use more now. Already gone through 2.5litres in 2 years.

    • I know what you mean. I'm an electronics hobbyist, and even then I don't really want more than 1L of 99% at a time.

But we're all different, and this stuff has lots of uses. Some might be watering this down to 70%, which has other uses.

Some people are stocking up for the apocalypse too, you know. Personally, my OzBargain bulk buying instinct is tamed by apartment living, but YMMV.

      cleaning the 3d printer bed

  • I still haven't received it from the last deal tracking hasn't changed at all

    • +1

      Received mine today (Sydney).

    • Received mine yesterday metro melb

  • Anyone willing to split a shipment of 3 in Mel?

  • Not sure why marked as expired, have just bought one.

    • +1

If it's anything like it was the other day, it kept being OzBargained out of stock and then the seller kept adding more.

  • +1

Back in stock. Just bought 1 5L

  • Thanks OP, missed last time, jumped on it X3 this time. Have been watching since the original sale, well done on the discount codes!

  • well done yep, could we down the tempo and get 1Lx2 bottles viably for 10.00?

  • +1

serious question, is there a big difference between this one at 99% and the 100% product from elsewhere? Just curious, would be any functional difference for 1%?

    • It's 99.99% so I don't think there is going to be much difference

      • Cheers. Yeah the title says 99.99 but the description lower down says 99%. Hence my confusion I guess.

  • Anyone in Syd cbd want to go halves. I just need a small amount to clean bat poo off my car lol can’t warrant 5L worth :O

  • If I was to cut this with 50% water, would it still be an effective cleaner where methylated spirits has worked in the past?

5L of methylated spirits can be had around $15 and I use it around my place as a general surface, glass and hard floor cleaner - would switching to isopropyl alcohol potentially be cheaper?

    • +2

It would depend on the exact application for it - what you want to dissolve - and yes 70% IPA 30% water is actually commonly sold.

Water is called the "universal solvent", because it's good for dissolving/cleaning, so yes a mix of the two may clean even better than one by itself, although it wouldn't dry as fast as pure IPA.

You'd probably want it to be distilled water though, otherwise it's going to start leaving residue, which might be an issue (low residue is the point of 99% IPA, really). Then again, metho leaves residue, so maybe you don't mind.

Also if you're mixing them, don't faff about because IPA will evaporate quickly, and don't leave it uncapped. Also avoid significant inhalation.

I wouldn't mix it all though, as there are applications where pure IPA (or pure water for that matter), would be better.
