    yay, free! :)

    no facebook ‘likes’ involved!

The '+' is for the freebie, but it damn near could've been for that comment too…not being a Farcebook lamer myself, I find those 'must like' posts somewhat irritating! ;)

    • I agree with mr balls

      • Good call

  • +1

just what is it? these candies, multi vitamins?

  • +9

+1. Ever noticed how many of the freebies revolve around health, beauty and wellness?

I reckon you could spot a diehard ozbargainer a mile away: great hair, good skin, sipping a sample size health drink…

  • +2

    Thanks, just requested.
But what is an acai berry blend?

    LOL

    • +5

acai berries are the latest 'superfood' i think they contain bulk antioxidants? I don't really know but they sure do taste good!

    • +6

      Who cares! It's free!! :P :P

  • +4

    I like that attitude +ve

  • superfoods are a con. antioxidants are also overhyped - their effect is unclear in medical research. listen to the antioxidants episode from "Steven Novella - Medical Myths, Lies & Half-Truths" (audio version). he comes to the conclusion that there is no proven health benefit from taking superfoods.

some people might recognise the name steven novella from the skeptics guide to the universe. the whole series of episodes is fantastic!

orangic foods are also a con.

how can organic fruit not be better for you than pesticide riddled fruit that is ripened in a factory using gas?
Your comment is a massive generalisation.
I could make an audio clip saying that water is bad for you and someone like you would probably believe it.

      • you have fallen for the marketing con that organic food is pesticide free. organic food producers are free to use from a range of pesticides. the organic pesticides used are not as effective (and possibly not as safe) as synthetic ones so in many cases the producers have to up the concentrations of organic pesticides.

        • ok so things i grow in my backyard without the use of ANY chemicals are a con?

        • +1

no, i'm not knocking home-grown fruit/vegies. they are the best.

      • You need to check the specific criteria for labelling a product 'organic' dude; you'll find that they're not as stringent as you would think, especially given the connotations the label implies! ;)

mattgal is actually correct, much like 'supplements', so called 'superfoods' (acai, goji etc) do offer some beneficial nutritional support; however, just not the medical grade therapeutic dose of…well, everything that the snake-oil merchants posit! :)

FWIW, I like acai; some Brazilian friends got me onto it years ago, I just like the taste it gives my smoothies…but I'm not under any illusions about the therapeutic value! :p

I too have ordered a sample.
I hope it's not somehow destroyed in this hot weather.

  • +1

Just a heads up, Acai berry is the basis of lots of MLM schemes.

    • yep, as soon as you try this drink.. you'll be a sucker stuck in a trapeziod :)

  • I suppose these are capsules, but because they are free I'll get them for the Missus. I'm always teasing her about capsules. I keep telling her scientists have discovered there are vitamins in food these days. But capsules make her think she is doing something positive. Such is the power of marketing.

it’s only the start of february too …

not all bandwidth limits renew every calendar month
the business' plan may be renewed every month on the 6th, you never know
but yes, it is most likely that it would be renewed every calendar month

        • they must have bought some more bandwidth, it's back online

  • +2

    Bandwith exceeded and 2000 click-throughs?

Something tells me we're all going to have find something else to drink.

    • the domain belongs to vitamins4u.com.au

      omg, $50 for 200g!

cocoa powder (think dark chocolate) has similar levels of antioxidants but at a fraction of the price. ground cinnamon has substantially more antioxidants than acai, again at a fraction of the price. sprinkle some cinnamon over your porridge in the morning. even the humble oregano has substantially more levels of antioxidants.

      • Yes, but those alternatives are too cheap and viral.
I don't buy health food unless they have a 2400% price mark up.

Also, 200g? I thought this was a drink?

        • Also, 200g? I thought this was a drink?

          just add water :)

from the 2007 choice shonky awards:

"The Shonky for Supershonkyness goes to… Superjuices: So called superjuices from exotic fruits such as noni, goji, açai and mangosteen are sold and promoted as benign and packed full of anti-oxidants and good stuff – and sold for up to $85 a bottle on that basis. But Choice’s testing showed that while that is true for the actual fruits, a serve of these juices contains only a fraction of the antioxidants you get from a single Red Delicious apple (which costs about $1)."

  • Iherb was selling Acai Freeze dried powder 454g for $US23 + $US3 postage, it was a quality USDA certified organic product, but it sold out.

I bought one of these for smoothies, but should have posted the deal on OzBargain, it was a bargain.
