Who's gonna look through my webcam and listen through my microphone if I get this??? that's how I get off…

    • That's exactly what this software is there for to prevent. There's always going to be a loophole in every software one installs, which ones do you trust?

I remember the days gone by when Norton and McAfee were the big dogs and Kaspersky and AVG were freebies.

  • Just wonder if this website really delivers what it offers. I once downloaded a Video Editing Software from them, and about a month later I discovered there was a bunch of crypto mining malwares on my laptop. I had to reinstall Windows as it kept going back no matter how hard i tried to remove them (I used AVG,Kaspersky and Windows Backup).
I did also have Youtube Ad-block during the time, so Sharewareonsale couldnt take all the blame. Anyways, I did some quick google review check and they came out almost clean (except the owner was involved in a legal suit before).
    Is Sharewareonsale safe to use?

    • Have been downloading from Sharewareonsale for a while now and so have been my mates, no issues so far. But nothing in cyber world can be 100%.

Anti-virus… what a blast from the past

    • Exactly. Antivirus-only products should be considered a con today and companies really shouldn't even be providing them. You're only partially protected by antivirus software. It's like buying a bomb shelter shielded from radiation then installing a screen door. I haven't received a virus via email for years, but I do regularly find sites have been hijacked and malicious code installed. Get one of the 'total' versions instead… The ones that have antivirus, browser protection, a banking sandbox, AND ransomware protection. Even legit professional websites get hacked and rogue code inserted. Why bother protecting against what… 40-50% of the threats.

        Something is better than nothing…

Partial security gives false security which may as well be no security. i.e. It makes you think you're safe and unless someone has used a 'total' antivirus before, they'd never realise how many malicious sites are out there, and it's a LOT. In fact the people that insert malicious code into sites work hard either getting their sites into the first page of google search results, or, hacking ones that already are! Why? To get control of hundreds computers, search for their banking/credit card and other private details, insert cryptocurrency miner bots along with browser plugins that use your CPU cycles/power/data quota to increase their mining power, and encrypt your HDD then display a 'pay the ransom of $$$ to get your files back' message. (Just to name a few.)

An antivirus alone WON'T EVEN SEE these three common threats, let alone be able to prevent or restore your system from them.

I see this most days… I hear of a news event, go to google, do a search. The scum create a fake headline, insert malicious code into their page, and somehow push their site into the top google search results. I click it, and ESET Internet Security warns: "This web page contains a variant of xyz.trojan. Access has been blocked. Do you wish to continue to the website anyway?" (Something like that anyway.)

There are free trials for most 'total' antivirus/browser/ransomware packages. You install, trial period expires, uninstall, reinstall again. Why use only a free antivirus and protect against one third (or less!?) of threats, but not use one of the former and protect against all of them!? But, to each his own I guess.
