No thanks…i'll stick with my $16.50 Genuine Office 2016 Pro Plus purchase. One perk of working for the govt (Microsoft HUP).

You got ripped off… They should be $15.

      • Maybe they should be, but they are actually $16.50.

          they are actually $16.50.

          I paid $15.

          @Daabido:

          Thank you.

It's good to know I wasn't ripped off.

    • One per year per OS IIRC.

      https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ellipsis

An ellipsis (plural ellipses; from the Ancient Greek: ἔλλειψις, élleipsis, 'omission' or 'falling short') is a series of dots (typically three, such as "…")

Not necessarily illegal. Software licences can be resold - even by system builders, etc. They might be breaching a contract they signed with Microsoft, but it doesn't flow onto the end buyer, and is not illegal any more than a normal contractual breach.

Edit: Actually it can't even be a contractual breach:

      http://www.brodies.com/binformed/legal-updates/european-cour…

Under European law, the licensor of a computer programme loses its right to control onward distribution of a copy of that programme when that copy is first sold in the EU.

        Software licences can be resold

When I was a member of TechNet, it was specifically forbidden to sell the volume licence keys we were given.

  • Are these just random msdn (or whatever they’re called now) keys with 10 activations?

Can get Win10 Licences cheaper here (AU $7.84):

    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/WINDOWS-10-PRO-KEY-Include-Insta…

    Apparently it's legit because:

The activation keys sold in this listing are genuine and are used as a system builder. supplied by authorised Microsoft partners. To comply with the terms and conditions of both Microsoft and eBay, all of the items sold are new and sourced directly at the time of sale from third party Microsoft sellers.

Though very lol-worthy, it says in "what will you get":

    • And full support from me

At least I can vouch that it works fine.

    • are used as a system builder

That literally means he has to be building the computers that use the keys. The guy is a (profanity).

      • I mean, he could. Or he can sell them on eBay for a quick profit. Either way, as long as they're actually sourced from MS and buyers are getting a working/legit key, I don't see how anyone is losing out.

  • Anyone knows how they're reselling keys? Thought after the update to windows 10 they're linked to microsoft accounts.

    • By EU law, software has to be resellable. MS can't prevent it, or they'd be breaking EU law.

      • +2

EU laws are amazingly anti-big corp. That's great.

EU have made more progressive and actually effective laws than anyone in the world 10x over.

  • illegal software

  • +1

Is it not the case under EU law that owners of computers that are no longer using their software can sell it onto others?

    • Yup - that's what I thought to. Basically pro-consumer laws mean that licences are able to be resold by buyers.

      http://www.brodies.com/binformed/legal-updates/european-cour…

A recent European Court of Justice (ECJ) decision has confirmed that organisations can resell "used" software licences, regardless of whether they were purchased in a physical form or downloaded from the internet.

    Leaked MSDN Keys.

  • Cheaper here and legit.

      • You need to get that from your participating organisation.

  • Since we are selling illegal products, I have maths for sale out the back of my truck.

    • Since when is math illegal?

      • Math meth

      • +2

        Since when is math illegal?

        Illegal for Arts students.

        • You can actually do math through Arts, at least at UQ.

        • @Daabido:

Yes, I remember they were 'allowed' to but had different assessment criteria and got standardised separately to those doing science.

      • +1

        My partner says the following:
When you put mathematical equations in a particular order, you can sell it compiled and call it software, then if someone breaches the associated licence agreement you have essentially made maths illegal. When stripped down to its bare essentials, all software is essentially binary calculations.

        • Your partner knows code.

        • all software is essentially binary calculations.

All music is 'essentially' of a finite number of notes in a 'particular' order…

  • Might as well use KMS Auto, and be done with it.

    • KMS Auto

Their 5-speed manual is better for towing.

  • You can still upgrade for free from Windows 7 or 8. You just need to enter your Windows 7/8 product key into Windows 10 to activate it. This gives you a digital license tied to your computer, that never expires.
