Was looking at the Netgear Orbi but decided to get this instead. Yeah the Orbi's sound pretty good with their backhaul, but their big ass satellites have put me off. In any case, I don't think the backhaul is really required in my household.

Yeah that is pretty much the same for the Orbi too. Luckily my place is pretty small :)
In any case, if your place is that big might as well get the proper stuff from Ubiquiti (AC Pro, etc.) Pls don't ask me about it though cos I was looking at a possible Ubiquity solution but it's way too complex for me and my needs.
if you have any need for bigger area then imo theres no solution better than AC Pro. Literally will run rings around mesh systems
That's what I thought. My place is a small 2 bedder though in a L shape, so it's kind of like whack a satellite in between and all is good I hope :)
Is it better than Asus ac68u?
I'm assuming the Asus is just a single wireless router, whereas this is a wireless "mesh" setup with two satellites that are kind of like range extenders.

I think 1 extra mesh point should do me, so I'll just buy the one soon. Might wait to see if there are any more PROXY deals since I only have the one more transaction left.
We've got an iinet supplied NBN modem upstairs but need something downstairs. Have an ethernet port downstairs, what will work best and be most cost efficient?
With an ethernet port you can get the cheapest mesh product you want. The major difference is how they perform without ethernet, as pure WiFi extenders.
Once you bring ethernet backbone to your mesh network, you're not trying to extend weak signals, each point will have full strength signal and they will mesh together in the weak/common areas to provide the most adequate coverage for your whole house.
edit: Of course the product has to support wired connections :)
This or Google WiFi?
I was tossing up between the two recently, ended up going with Google Wifi (as I was able to get store credit for my lemon of a router). Google Wifi has been great. Especially being able to use the secondary units as bridges as well as APs (so I have a unit behind the TV, connected to a network switch, that all the consoles are plugged into). Has been super simple, and wifi has been rock solid (I've had lots of issues over the last couple of years with wifi, and believe cordless phone interference from a neighbour is partly to blame).
I bought a 3 pack of these. They can run wired backhaul or wireless. I have my home wired so I have all 3 running ethernet backhaul.
Would you please classify whether Google home pack can change lan ip? I heard about somewhere that owner cannot change the lan ip.. Thx
Sorry I am not too sure, I bought the 3 pack of this Ubiquiti Amplifi not the Google Mesh Wifi.
I have one of these and can confirm they are good. Very limited advanced options though so if your someone that likes to tinker with network settings this isn't the router for you. Wish the additional mesh points weren't so damn expensive.
Thinking about getting one of these to replace my Airport Time Capsule. These don't look like they have a USB port that I can connect a shared drive, do they?
What do you guys recommend for Time Machine backups?

Keep in mind if you have larger place you may want to by the extenders that aren't cheap.
