This is listed on their Ebay store so Penny5 and cashback works. $604.05 + $8 delivery before $50 eftpos from Sony

    • Didnt see that…good spotting…will update the title

Also, FYI the Canon G7X MKII (this camera's main competitor) is coming up on Amazon Prime deals today at 4PM
Worth checking out for maybe a killer price

    • Which would be a better upgrade to a Canon g9xm2?

    • +8

Don't worry it's not a real competitor. The image clarity is leaps and bounds poorer, especially in daylight photos.

I bought the G7X because it seemed like a far better value for money camera and had a lot more bells & whistles like the awesome flipping touchscreen. However, the image quality definitely isn't there, it's not even better than my RX100 Mark I.

Definitely go for the RX100 MKIII.

      • no viewfinder on g7x if thats something you want too

    • -1

      Are they really comparable?

    • Probably should have said competitor if you're using it for Video more so, as this is what YouTubers will usually go between for being small compact and great Video for the Price.

    • how'd you find that? How do i see the other upcoming deals ?

    • welp gone in less than 30 seconds.. seemed like there was very limited qty

  • They have 6 versions of this camera now, anyone able to offer a comment as to if there are any major differences?

  • This is a very very good deal

  • Wondering what camera people would recommend for a beginner. This is a good price but am concerned about low light as maybe 1/2 the shots I'd like to do would be at evening/night.

Is the integrated lens anything to worry about compared to a mirrorless/full body?
Am considering getting a 2nd hand for something as affordable around the $500

    • +1

dang people are selling 2nd hand of this camera for $750, Australia is so expensive, maybe overseas is better?

when you say beginner you make me think you're wanting to pursue photography as a bit of a hobby.

if that's case you definitely want a body with interchangeable lenses.

some people might disagree, but I would recommend getting something even as old as a Nikon D90 off of Gumtree and pairing that with their 35mm 1.8 DX lens.

for $500 you're not going to get anything with crazy ISO performance, so better to go for fast glass.

      • Yes as a hobby, but that's why I thought this sony camera even without interchangeable lense could be ok.

I don't mind lower MP but hope I can get a good sensor for non-grainy low light. Because that's what phones let you down in.

I do like the interchangeable lens but thought that freedom would add to the overall price.

Hi, I'm not sure if you're still considering this camera but I just wanted to let you know that I was in the same position as you a year ago and chose this exact camera as my hobby entry. I love it so much and I disagree that you need an interchangeable lens camera if you wanted to pursue it as a hobby. I've quickly uploaded 3 shots from a trip to Japan late last year (https://imgur.com/a/bDBS5E0) that includes one low light shot. The EVF is also amazing for taking pictures out in the sun.

        • @Justanother: Edit: Try and view it on a desktop, just saw it on mobile and it downscales the pics a lot

        • well as soon as you say hobby, IMO that means you will want to have control over the camera and the images you create.

the image quality on the RX100 is great, but ultimately its a point and shoot camera. It doesn't give you direct access to the camera's manual controls.

a camera with interchangeable lenses is only slightly more expensive to get into (you only need one to start), but will prove to be less expensive when/if you decide you want to add more to your collection.

having said that, this will probably hold its value pretty well on the secondhand market.

there's actually a guy in Sydney selling a D90 with two batteries for $280 right now, and even if you don't talk him down I can't tell you how good a deal that is for getting into stills photography.

      • wow that's great, how do you find this guy because it looks like gumtree 2nd hand is overpriced.

If you are shooting action at night, this is not going to go work well. If you are shooting people/objects (e.g. buildings) that are relatively still, and you don't have super shaky hands you can do pretty well.

The lens on this is fantastic - nothing to worry about.

      • Good to hear about the lens, thank you, was worrying about that aspect and how much difference it'd be to a normal dslr or mirroless.

I like to take still shots at night with long exposures, people who are moving in the scene are often blurred but the buildings and lights are clear. Well I tried this with my phone and looks relatively ok when still, so I hope with an actual camera it will look less blury when held still with lower noise.

    • +1

These are great for low light, you will be pleasantly surprised how little you need the flash.

  • +1

How is this for recording videos ? I'm undecided if I want a DSLR instead but I prefer this smaller body and not having to buy a separate lens, primary use will be for videos and occasionally a travel camera

    • I'm in this situation as well and still undecided. Are you considering dedicated camcorders? Have a look at sony ax53, great reviews

    • I've used the Mk1 for video and its brilliant at 1080p. Just bear in mind this version doesn't shoot 4K, that starts at the Mk4.

    • +1

This is a good video camera. The XAVC codec that Sony uses gives you almost twice the bitrate of normal 1080p (50mbps vs 28mpbs) from AVCHD so you get almost double the data per pixel.

The IV/V/VI gives you more slow motion options (including the gimmicky 960 FPS) and 4k video - but this is capped at 5 minutes and they are known to overheat when shooting 4k for longer than that.

I have this as my hip camera and I have not been disappointed.

  • Fantastic camera, great price. I have one and love it, gets heaps of use mostly as a holiday camera. It won't replace a DSLR, but I find dragging my Pentax around all day, every day on holiday to be a chore, RX100 is small enough to fit in a pocket. Obviously a massive step up in quality vs even the best smartphones too.

    • Good to hear it's a step up above smartphones, could you provide your thoughts on performance in low light if you took any of those while on travel?

      • +1

Low light performance on it is top notch, up there with the best P&S cameras I'd imagine.

        • ah thanks for your insight, this one's looking pretty good, light point and shoot with good low light performance and at this price I think it will be great

  • I'm looking at getting a 12-35mm F/2.8 lens for my Panasonic G7 for an upcoming overseas holiday. This is cheaper than that lens and looks like the same equivalent focal length but can go down to F/1.8. Would I just be better off getting this and having a handy portable point and shoot? Would I notice much difference between using this and using the 12-35mm F2.8 on my G7?

    • the bokeh just not as great as the Panny 12-35/2.8 due to the smaller sensor size

      • Was wondering about that, also the smaller sensor will mean it won't perform as well in low light?

        • Had one…. it's pretty hard to handle ergonomically the rx100 m3 although I didn't have the handle stick on. I sold it before then, kept my Fuji X100T.

        • Yes 3200 ISO was usable like for like web or instagram etc.

        • @RtN: did you try longer shutter speed? I was thinking to do 1/2 second - 1 second shutter speed while holding it or propping it up on something. If I got a tripod obviously longer.
Wit the lower shutter speed I would hope that the quality and noise wouldn't be too stark difference from a similar priced dslr.

        • @TheOneWhoGotAway:

Yep depends on what you're doing, if there's motion then can't really do that slow of a shutter speed. Going slower shutter speed is fine for stationary objects. Either way was fine I guess for most purposes, it's just that I didn't like handling it most of all. It's a great size though.

        • @RtN:
Cool thanks, is the Fuji bigger meaning you can hold and shoot with one hand? I'd imagine the only problem with the sony is too small so hard to grip and press the shutter?

    • The aperture values are not directly comparable due to the different sensor sizes. There's a formula somewhere that will allow you to compare.

  • replied above….

  • Maybe wait for 20% off @TGG in the next couple of days? They have these 20% off promos running twice a month lately.

    • They currently have 15% off in store which brings he camera to $586 with the $50 cash back.

      • +2

Still cheaper through there eBay store or from Videopro.

  • Which memory cards does this camera support? Can I get a sandisk ultra or samsung evo+ for it? 128gb/256gb or only up to 64?

  • Ordered one last night and received a call about an hour ago from The Good Guys Brighton saying that there was no stock available; asked if substituting a display was acceptable.

I declined and got a refund; their system is apparently showing 3 available brand new but it isn't the case. Was a bit of a pain getting a refund too; the customer service was disappointing (I spoke to 2 people, one person three times, before they arranged the refund).

    • asked if substituting a display was acceptable.

Lol, no eftpos card on that one

  • Someone on FB marketplace was selling the rx100 Mark V for $600 but I couldn't be bothered to drive 2 hours return to get it

    It sold within 24hrs
