      It's a mid-range car stereo, not a tablet or anything that actually requires high resolution

      As dav3 said, this is a mid-range unit. Check out the flagship Kenwoods (DDX) for better screens.

      Car stereo head units don't follow usual tech progression, manufacturers drip feed enhancement year-by-year and normally keep the status quo. One year, Pioneer's only update to their head unit lineup was to include a free reversing camera, and then call it a different model name!

      Up until this year, there were literally no head units with a screen resolution above WGVA (800x480). Thank Kenwood for being the first to step forward into HD, their DDX flagship units are the first to come with 1280x720 HD res. Pioneer and Alpine "flagships" still come with awful WVGA display, including Alpine's much-touted HALO9, floating 9" display - 480P! What a joke!

      DIY, mostly plug and play, depending on what car you're fitting it to.

    Keep in mind this is a 200mm wide unit (Toyota double DIN) as opposed to standard 180mm wide ISO. Plug and play for power/speaker connections, and 28 pin SWC connection. Toyotas from about 2011 back run a 20 pin for SWC, 20 to 28 pin adapters are available from Toyota parts, along with antenna adapters for newer models.

    Basically the same as a DDX917WS but without Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Runs Waze via USB, and has enhanced Spotify functionality via Bluetooth.

    List of models it fits is a little vague, some vehicles require a fascia (eg. 50 series Camry/Aurion), and some variants it won't fit at all eg. LC200 won't fit Sahara (and MY16+ VX) due to embedded Climate Control.

    Interesting, I notice this vendor has posted twice soon after ebay sales. During ebay sales the price on same items has been cheaper (within the same week), so this has both times not been a true bargain IMO.

    I purchased a DDX9018DABS for $779 on Monday through Ryda ebay.

      Cheapest Kenwood with AA/ACP is the DMX8018S, but is mechless and has resistive screen. Better off looking at DDX918WS (if you have a Toyota) or DDX9018DABS (for everything else) as both have capacitive screen.
