  • Got my dad one for Christmas and he's extremely happy with it.

He's happy he didn't spend a cent on one.

Well I mean, who wouldn't be glad not to have to spend money on something..even if it was good!

From all the research I did it's the best you can find in that price bracket by far.

  • +1

I've also got one and it's great. For $160 you can't go wrong.

    • +3

      This guy grinds.

  • thanks! ours was stuffed after a couple of years and couldn't find spare parts. ~$170 delivered for a brand new one works nicely :)

    • +3

      You're welcome!

    • I"m surprised parts are hard to find . There must be a lot of these around .

      • Breville's customer support have been really good to me so far. I bought my first one years ago and it eventually died, they replaced it with the new model for free. It too packed a couple of years later so I gave them a call and even though it was a few weeks out of warranty the replaced the replacement with the newer model again. Way better service than I was expecting.

I got one of these about 3 months ago for about $170 delivered. Could not be happier and would buy it again.
My experience of this grinder is consistent with the positive reviews that I read before buying it.

Been using hand grinder waiting for a BCG820 deal… ordered. Ty op

Use mine everyday. Cannot recommend enough.

Finally bit the bullet. Looking forward to this, thanks OP.

Would it be worthwhile getting this if I have a breville barista 870 with a built in grinder?

    • I have same question here.

    • +1

Not exactly sure what tech Breville used in the grinder inside the 870. Why not ask Breville? My suspicion would be yes it is better, but enough to warrant spending that? A lot of people done like having the grinder in the machine saying the beans get warm. I don't think that's much of an issue (I have the 980).

    • Advantage of separate is ability to repair or upgrade one independently of the other. Downside I think is it takes a bit more space. I personally prefer them separately and am very happy with this grinder

  • What do you pair this up with?

  • Grabbed one the last time they were on sale at this price, use it every day and love it. Very highly recommended!

Coffee beans always reminded me of my childhood, I was always grounded.

…OK, I'll show myself out now

  • I's a pretty neat unit; but I've found if you use the attachment that holds the group handle from your coffee machine under the grinder, coffee grounds go everywhere
    YMMV

    • +1

Oh but it does come with one of those? I haven't owned a grinder before but feel like I'd rather one that makes grinds for one handle at a time….

    • adjust the time so that it doesnt overflow….i usually set mine to 18.2 for the beans I use (setting 12) and pause at about 8 seconds to tap it a bit. then unpause.

      mess minimised.

  • Is it worth the 70 extra beans over the Delonghi machine at ~$99? (Assuming you could purchase either at each respective price)

    • +2

      No question.

      • Thanks for the reply. Maybe I should return the Delonghi then…

It’s still unopened and within the Amazon return window.

        • I’ve not used that Delonghi, but by the comments in the OzBargain page sounds like it’s not a patch on th3 Breville. I’d be returning it. The Breville is great bang for buck. I just bought about my 4th or 5th. I buy them when cheap for people who aren’t sure, say try it and pay me for it if you like it, or just give it back to me if you don’t think it’s worth it. They invariably pay me.

        • @wfdTamar: That's a useful opinion, thanks.

Are you selling those and call your customers friends?

        • @pizzaguy: I sort out computers. Coffee is just a hobby. I roast my own beans. If I have a computer client that is also into coffee I might get them a grinder. One I did that for recently minded my cat for a month when I went OS.

I bought the Delonghi one to grind my coffee at work to use with the espresso machine. It's not in the same class as the Breville Smart Grinder Pro (which I use at home) and it doesn't grind fine enough for espresso. I have to use an Aeropress now at work.
I'd for sure return it and get the Smart Grinder Pro.

      • Thanks for the reply, decided to go for it.

  • Just picked one up via eBay and opted to pickup in store near home that had shown "in-stock" for the location, thanks OP, hoping I can pick it up on my way home today. I use a Nespresso sometimes, but mainly I grind beans and use a plunger, using a dumb (as in, just on and off, no other settings available) grinder that doubles down as a herb grinder as well but it get's messy and I either grind too much or too little. Looking forward to toying around with this one for the optimal plunger experience.

Does it grind well enough to do a cold brew/aeropress? Inquiring minds must know!

    • Not an expert, but has to be alright for aeropress.

    • Im an expert, it will be more than enough for cold brew/ aeropress.
Quick google shows level 5 percolator

    • I use it for both espresso and cold drip. Works great, just have to remember to let a few more grinds out when swapping back from a coarser grind to a finer one otherwise you get some less than desirable leftover crap that was in the chamber

      • Thanks for the tip, could you please tell me what settings you use for cold drip?

  • When I lived in the UK this was rebranded as a Heston Sage smart grinder. Good piece and kit. We upgraded to a Rocket grinder for espresso but use this for filter grind. good price.

  • I don't care about taste, I want strong coffee, will Manna beans to do?

  • Nice deal. Been trying to choose between this and a Mazzer Mini - the ultimate home (or professional) grinder but at $700 so much more expensive. At $159 it's definitely worth a "shot" (pardon the pun haha).

Seeing as postage on the grinder is $9 I went for eBay Plus. At $29/year this purchase (with the free delivery though eBay Plus) effectively brought it down to $20 for the first year….and first month is free :)

Purchased on Sunday and still no notification that the grinder has been sent.

  • Anybody got theirs yet? It’s been almost a week since purchase for me and still not shipped.

Multiple local stores are showing in stock still, so can’t be that.

    Will see what they say…

    • So apparently they might not be shipped out until next week, which is pretty disappointing.

Reason given is that there were a lot of orders and they need to source the stock. Yet they are in stock in stores, and they are still for sale on eBay. If I didn’t contact them myself I still wouldn’t know what is happening due to the lack of any communication.
