    Hmmm…
If I do this, do I need to change to UK?

    • Xbox Live Golds codes can be activated globally. No need to change region.

So does the £10 get added as $ or do you have to change your region to redeem it etc?

    • Need to change region. There’s no “can only change region every 3 months” sort of thing though.

      • So you need to change region? I just got told you didn't above.

        • I was referring to the money not Xbox live. But apparently Xbox live is global, I was assuming it was same as the game pass redeem

It may have changed but the way I thought gift cards work are that you can redeem them in the AUS store but they will apply the credit to that regions Microsoft store. So you have to change the region in your browser and buy using that regions store.

Also, Sorry about previous comment. Consoles do get locked if you change region. I change it through the phone app which is different as it just changes the store not the console

        • Comments in the original post also seems to imply that the money has a 3 month expiry date

    • Think you also need vpn to redeem overseas codes

Not when it comes to Xbox Live Gold redemption codes. They are global.

        • Are you sure they're global? Years ago, I purchased a UK Xbox Live Gold subscription and was no longer able to redeem any Australian DLC codes on that account, among other issues. It was a huge hassle and it definitely isn't worth it if that issue still exists.

        • @Comfortably Numb:

That might have been during the Xbox 360 days. And that may have been Xbox 360 games. Xbox Live Gold on Xbox 360 ran different from what's on Xbox One. Xbox 360 was region locked.

It's totally different for Xbox One well for the most part. Some codes however from certain third world markets are region locked. But if you are buying from say the UK then you should be fine. Most Xbox Live Gold codes are region free these days.

I suggest that you have a read through this.

  • Too much hassle for me. I’m happy with the current 12 month deal

  • Anyone successfully bought?
