  • Hows the quality of these unbranded screens?

    • +3

I use them for status tickers and it's fine for that. As it's 480x320, don't expect too much from these panels.

      • My biggest concern is reliability. Will they last long?

        • +67

My biggest concern is the spiralling down of diplomacy between the U.S. and most of the world now.

      • Status ticker?

        • Things like the current IP of the machine, CPU load. Packets in, packets out.
Really depends on what you are running on it. I run a Pi-Hole (network wide hardware ad blocker) on mine. So I'd use it to see ads blocked.

        • @BryceW:

Oh that's a mad idea, I use the onscreen -var for CSGO, cool!

    • +2

I have one of these. The refresh rate is really poor. I've had one running 24/7 for over a year with no reliability issues though.

Edit: My bad, mine isn't the same model.

  • Is it compatible with the latest Raspberry Pi 3 model B+?

    • It would be, yes.

This is pretty much the normal price for these. (edit: proof) Zapals is lying by claiming it's marked down from AU$38.94

    • Plus OP hasn't included shipping. No deal.

Edit: however, you forgot to include the eBay """"tax"""" which pumps up the price to $17.33.

capacitive screen? Or resistive? The Stylus hints at resistive..

    • +14

Some might say the specs that say "Touch Screen Type : Resistive" agree ;)

Add USD/AUD prices had to guess for a bit until I saw kamoi's comment.

Price is in AUD for those wondering.

      • Was hoping OP would spot this. Gonna just report it now.

      Better buy a gps

    • +1

You could install open auto on it which is a port of android auto for raspberry pi. If you could fine a way to make it look any good in your car. dash

  • Is this powered by the Raspberry Pi GPIO interface?
If so then if I am using this as a screen for something other than Rasberry Pi, does it mean I still need to connect it to the Raspberry PI for power?
Last question - if connected to Raspberry Pi using GPIO interface, do I still need to use hdmi cable from Raspberry Pi to this LCD Panel to see what is being displayed by Raspberry Pi?

    lots of questions ;)

GPIO would be supplying 5V, but any 5V source would work, just look up the GPIO pin out, see which pins are 5V and ground.
Although the description talks about HDMI input, I don't actually see any connector in any of the photos, so possible you can't actually directly connect it to an HDMI source. To set up the Pi to output to the screen, you'd have to connect via HDMI, similar deal for getting the touch controller working. Be different if you loaded an image with it already configured. Once setup though, no you wouldn't need to connect via HDMI.

It took me a while to understand this. I think you're saying you'd need to plug the Pi into a different HDMI-compatible monitor to perform the initial setup?
Not necessarily true - I run all my Pis without any screen at all and just connect via ssh.

In any case, looking at the photos, there is no HDMI input to the screen. It's usable only with a Raspberry Pi (or similar). Also, it probably uses most of the GPIO pins (unlikely to be able to use it with other HATs).

        • Sure if the image you install has SSH enabled, then can connect that way via Ethernet and should be able to configure the screen. Wouldn't be using close to all the GPIO I wouldn't think.
          Should be something like: https://pinout.xyz/pinout/pitft_plus_35#

I'm getting usd$13.78, am i doing something wrong or a price rise?

    • +2

OP didn't include shipping which is just ridiculous.

      • -1

I don't understanding why you're blaming the OP for this, they are just sharing the deal.

        • +2

Well, to be fair it did originally say "including shipping".

  • +3

Seems there's $2.30 AUD shipping added on top. Better off with eBay.

    • Price for me is $13.78 inc. shipping, as per title. But maybe title's been edited since you made this comment.

  • +2

No deal, can be found for cheaper on ebay.
