Xbox plays UHD bluray, and has much wider utility which you may or may not use. Overall though, the Xbox is a tons better deal.
If all you wanted was a BD player, you overpaid.
This is not even a UHD player. I bought a Samsung BD player about 8 years ago for $60 so the price is not even great for 2018.
What was this Samsung BD player you bought brand new for $60 in 2010?. Blu-ray players didn't go any where near that back in those days even when the currency was better.
Back in those days i was paying $200+ for a brand new BD player.
This is the price that band name BD players were going for back in 2010 well the RRP. But no shop was going to sell you one for $60.

So i don't believe your story for a second that you got a brand new Samsung BD player for $60 back around 2010. Prices are all well over $200.

A $20 price hike after 6.5 years is not a good deal.
It was this one but I got it for $59. But even at $79, I think even you must admit that 6.5 years later, this deal doesn't look all that spectacular with no price movement. Not exact same model, but it's a blu ray player. Same features. This one is not capable of anything mine wasn't capable of. And mine was a very thin model (thinner than this one).
Oh and that same year, and the years after that? They were even cheaper than what I paid. For a range of brands. Just look through the posting history on this site.
Does anyone know if it is region free? Got a heap of DVDS and blurays from when i lived in the UK

Remember the days when blu-ray players were north of $800. Soon, these kind of players will be in sub $50 i reckon in a year time.
They've been cheaper than that before.
Gee. This is even more old school. I remember when DVD players were $800+ and no one could afford one except for the richer peoples. Now those are almost worthless.
spent 200 bucks on the xbox, could have saved 100+if the deal came earlier.
