HOW DOES THE CREST ENERGY-SAVING POWERBOARD WORK?
It works by linking multiple appliances to one master appliance e.g. your TV. When the power to your nominated master appliance is switched to standby mode, the power to the other ‘linked’ appliances (such as home entertainment devices) is completely switched off automatically. This eliminates standby power as though each device had been turned off at the wall. When the main device is turned back on, power is restored to the ‘linked’ appliances. The user won’t see anything different.

This saves unnecessary power consumption when leaving multiple appliances on standby. It also has excellent power surge protection capabilities, to protect and prolong the life of your expensive equipment.

The board is very simple to install and start operating with your appliances. To make sure you're getting the best out of your Energy-saving powerboard, Crest has a support website and phone service to help you with any questions you may have in setting up and using the device.

a dupe, but I think people need to see it again as many aren't aware of it.

Woops.. You're right.. although these would probably be especially handy for those flood affected areas. Also, they are offering free assessments and free delivery of white goods for those affected. Check it out:

I received mine last year. Faulty. Who do you complain to when your taxes are spent on dodgy crap?

    • Mine worked for a while and then started switching the "switched" sockets off and on randomly as if the cuurent draw on the main socket was not being detected properly.

Yea mine did the same. I wouldnt pay $180 for one of these. They don't work 100%. But for free…u can't complain.

      • Mine has the same problems… I guess why they are "giving" them away.

      • They would have to be reset if they are unplugged or the power goes off.
-Turn off the powerboard at the wall
        -Turn it back on
-Turn your TV on (or whatever you have plugged in the main socket on the powerboard)
-Make sure it is drawing a usual amount of power (i.e. displaying a tv channel, not just a black screen).
-Give it a good 15 seconds
-Turn your TV off in the usual way (with the remote, or a switch on the TV, whichever you normally do)

even though it was free, it is still covered by a 12 month manufacturer's warranty. since they only started delivering in july last year, yours will most certainly still be under warranty. instead of whinging, ring up crest for warrantee service.

mine appears to be working ok so far.

as with many surge powerboards, the value of the insurance policy is rather limited as you have to nominate equipment up-front to be covered by insurance.

  • mine works great!!

  • yeah mine works great as well

  • yeah mine works great as well got it last year. are you allowed to get another one or is it only one per address?

    • one per address
      get for your relatives

    • You could always use a different name and see if that works, one's that come to mind…

      'Max Power'
      'T. Edison'
      'B. Franklin'

I don't really see the point.

everything in my house goes off at the wall.

except the fridge, router/phone, hot water service.

    • Not everyone is like you, e.g I turn off my hot water service during summer as the solar panels do a good enough job.

      • I turn off my hot water service during summer as the solar panels do a good enough job.

ha, if you were a real man you would turn your hot water service off during winter as well :)

        • If you were a real man, why would you have gal in your name? :P

      • haha touche.

    • everything in my house goes off at the wall.

that is the best way. of course all people are not as diligent as you :)

  • thanks :)

  • Be careful with these one blew up my TV because of how it was loosing power from the device. It seems the way the board switches the power off can be problematic with sensitive devices. I now have mine on a 8 plug $160 belkin board (http://www.belkin.com/au/IWCatProductPage.process?Product_Id…) with proper filters. Not saying there not good but be warned :)

    • i think it would not be because of the board, but rather because of a crap power supply design in your tv.

for belkin boards you are just paying for insurance. i doubt they are very different from the crest one or even the sub-$30 cheapies (minus insurance) you see on deal sites.

i haven't looked at the belkin insurance policy, but many of the surge protected power board insurance policies are very restricted, mainly requiring you to nominate, up front, connected devices to be covered by the insurance.

      • At no point was I talking about the Insurance nor the surge protection, I'm sure they are indeed similar. It is the way the Crest board immediately cuts available power from all units connected to the slave points. Try flicking the switch on your TV on and off at the point for a while and see what happens. ;)
