The same old scheme from 2016 rebranded and with different products, nothing else is new. See the web site or my old post for details. NSW Fridge & TV Replacement Offer for Concession Card Holders.

Contrary to OP's description the scheme is not means tested, but you must hold one of the qualifying concession cards. Some of these qualifying cards are means and asset tested and some are not.

    • Maybe, but good to get the reminder. So many things to remember, but I will still probably forget just when I need a new fridge.

      • -1

I don't know what you mean by "maybe". They are either the same scheme (with a rebrand) or they aren't. The links in my post still go to the right place so I reckon they are the same.

I am not against people reposting long running deals (I'd unintentionally did it myself recently) and it is permitted by the posting guidelines, but have you read the original title and description posted by OP? OP did not attempt to edit the post to put in more information. Should we put up with such a low quality post and expect a mod to completely rewrite it?

    Wish Vic had this.

    • NSW is the premier state.

  • What brand fridge can you replace?

    • -2

      Xiaomi.

  • Can I use a Pensioner Concession Card claiming I am buying it for my old grandma? She can't walk easily no more so I decided to help her :)

  • There is now only 1 TV and retail price went up since 2016. Retail of $499 for a cheap brand 40" FHD? Feel bad the govt is being ripped off so will avoid the deal. E.g. Kogan has $379 for 4K 43"
Will wait for the 65" deal from Catch.com to return.

  • Merged from [NSW] Appliance Replacement: 40% off Cost of a New Fridge, 50% off Cost of a New TV @ NSW Government (Concession Required)

Is there still someone out there that watches tv on a Cathode Ray Tube ?

      • Yes, I have quite the collection of them.

Does this mean I can get 7 LCD TVs on my dad's concession card?

      • Yep. Aussie rules footy on free to air looked terrible on a modern TV due to low def cameras. Kept the CRT for footy.

        • What does that even mean? Were you watching standard definition broadcasts from the late 90s/early 00s.

          • @Fuchal: Yes and no… Afl still broadcast standard def games in 2017! The first HD game didnt happen until 2015. Modern TVs produced big blocky fill-in pixels ..I don't know how people could watch it. But as you point out,I guess watching old games not remastered, the CRT would still have its place.

    • only 1 tv

    • +1

Good offer but the TV is not impressive.

How do you find what models are available & their prices.

Probably cheaper waiting for a deal on here

I'm still shocked that Plasma is used in the same sentence as CRT!?!

I love my Panasonic plasma… the old girl has served me very well for 10 years now.

      • Same here

      • How many watts does it draw?

        • No idea. I know what your getting at. It’s power hungry.

        • Not enough for me to throw away a perfectly good 50" flat screen!
What a waste of NSW tax payer money to be encouraging that.

    • +9

This totally isn't going to encourage people to go dumpster diving for old TV's and fridges so they can get a nice new appliance subsidized by the government ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

      • Thanks for the idea! :)

Time to buy an old fridge and tv from gumtree 😂

    • What a joke, I just checked out the range on offer:

      https://appliance.environment.nsw.gov.au/Home/Products

18 Fridges (differing brands, reasonable selection), and ONE crappy TCL 40" TV with a rec retail of $495!

      • +1

TCL 40" TV with a rec retail of $495!
        @50% off still a bargain!

        • looks like last TCL Full HD TV that they could not sell elsewhere

    • +2

We did not want to give up our old Fridg (it is still a good almost new fridg), so we found a free one on FB and will be trading that one in for the new one. Keeping the old one in the garage for bulk goods and Beer!!!

      • That's what I was going to ask, is it compulsory for them to take away the old one lol

      • you didn't need to give up the fridge
we got to keep ours after we asked

        • I asked and they told me we MUST turn in a fridge!!!

    • +4

this is the most expensive deal…I've paid the tax for this and cannot get any deal

      • +2

Why did this get down voted?

I agree with the comment. Had a quick price check - LG GB-450UPLX costs $900 from Betta and BingLee before any type of discount (bulk like will likely bring this lower), whilst the site charges $600.

So, the seller/distributor is pocketing 1099-600= $400 as they are charging the ticket price with difference subsidised. looks like a profitable business to me. No wonder government contracts are some of the most lucrative.

There are better way to spend my tax contribution.

    • +4

how to get poor for this bargain?

      • +1

You have to be not poor to start off with

    • +3

I have low income health care card even with my $150k p.a salary, because I claimed $125k as 'expenses' which makes my taxable income as $25k p.a. Smart eh?

      • Yeah no. No.

      • Does that work o.O

      • Good luck with that audit bro ;).

    • This is like the only deal with the NSW healthcare card.

      • I assume it’s different to Medicare card ?

        • Yeah it's a card for low income earners, you get cheap prescription that's about it.

    • How times have changed when TV is more important to have than fridge, hence bigger discount.

Time to visit nursing homes and strike friendships with old folks, better than doing white van sale. Don't have to worry if I'm going to be busted for poor soldering on state of the art hi-fi systems.

    • Pure waste.

A deal written by Gerry for Gerry

  • Does the applicant have to reside where the new fridge goes to? You know we don’t really want to transport the old fridge to grandma’s and then transport the new fridge back. Nor do we want grandma to live with us for a few weeks just for this deal 🤣

  • I'm getting a server runtime error when I submit.

Is anyone having success submitting an application at the moment?

    • I'm getting that as well this morning.

    • The size of the picture of the concession card was to big. I reduced it and the application went thru

  • They charge a flat rate of 50.00 for shipping not what the OP posted!!!

  • Do the fridges come from any retailer?
Edit: never mind saw it in the title.

  • Our taxpayer dollars hard at work.

  • So, does the replacement fridge have to be the same or smaller capacity or can you pick whichever fridge you want?

  • Has anyone actually been able to register? I've been getting a runtime error every day for the past few days…

    • i guess i will answer my own question. The size of the picture of the concession card was to big. I reduced it and the application went thru
