Imo insane to drop this much on a phone when you're sol if anything goes wrong

    • goes wrong with the delivery you mean? if you paypal don't they cover for that?

      • +1

        His talkig about waranty

        • thanks, makes more sense (although personally didn't need to use warranty on a mobile before)

    • +6

I've had one phone stop working so it seems insane to pay more for every device just so I won't have to replace it if it stops working because that hardly ever happens.

      • It's the risk right? Save hundreds though…

      • Why pay for insurance if you might never need it? It's the same kind of thing.
Risk reduction and peace of mind.

      • +1

I've had all my previous 4 phones fail and need replacement by warranty. It's why I'll never buy from overseas.

        This is since 2012

        Lumia 920
        Nexus 5
        Nexus 6P
        LG V20

So far, LG G6 has a faulty charging port and headphone jack. Yay

Phones I bought for bro failed. Moto G6 Plus and G6. Makes me wonder WTF manufacturers are doing

        • All of my budget phones end up with issues as well but in my case I think it's because I abuse them more. My phones are exposed to sand and moisture. The charging port gets a good bend.

But I still don't know if I can trust an expensive overseas purchase after all the issues I've experienced buying phones. Screen imperfections. Non-working accelerometer.

        • All the phones I've purchased have been working fine. Except for dropping them and cracking the screen

        • +4

what the hell do you do to your phones?

        • +1

          @UNFKNBLVBL:

Absolutely nothing. These are component faults. Just bad luck I rekcon.

Never dropped them (except for Nexus 5 which I easily fixed)

All failures through no fault of my own .

        • +1

Makes me wonder WTF manufacturers are doing

Dunno, commonality between all of the above is you.

I've never seen/met anyone else with such a serious of "unfortunately" failures and issues.

        • -1

kind of makes sense why some prefer iphones which are probably more reliable and a lot of people just never want to deal with a hassle of having to send a phone off to get fixed or have issues with it.

        • Nexus 6P has some serious bootlopping issues, defect with the phone itself. As for the rest… no clue. Either you treat phones poorly or have the worst luck. I've had one phone just stop working, the HTC M9 with a touchscreen that just didn't respond to touches after a few months and that's about it.

        • +2

          @boostpak:

Everyone loves a phone that slows down via 'updates'

        • @fatal:

I do not mishandle them in any way and they all lived in a case. None were rooted, either.

Lumia 920: Would boot loop. Couldn't get into the OS.

Nexus 5: Power button failed and I couldn't turn it off or on.

Nexus 6P: Battery would go from 40% to 5%. Never bootlooped. Got it replaced for free.

LG V20: Really bad screen ghosting. LG told me to stick it, JB HiFi were excellent and gave me a G6.

LG G6: Currently using and managed to fix the headphone jack issue but the charging port keeps slow charging. Other chargers work fine.

        • Nexus 5 and 6p had known issues. Also you bought a v20 after all the known LG issues, and a G6?

Just for reference, I bought a single Pixel XL 128gb brand new, I have had it replaced 5 times with a total of 7 weeks without a phone. Is that better or worse than saving almost $700 buying this OP6 instead?

        • @OnlinePred:

The Quad-DAC lured me. And I think LG has the best camera lens arrangement. Pair those with the Google Camera app and you've got yourself an excellent camera phone.

Wasn't worried about the notorious LG issues. Not had any bootlooping but I've only owned their phones for a year now.

          Just wish it had Oreo

        • @Gharvey Snruff: You actually have a long line of LG phones. Seems like they failed you constantly and you just kept buying them.

Imagine if you bought this OP6 and had it for 2 years with no issues. Would be amazing right? And highly probable it would seem.

    • +5

Never had an issue with a OnePlus phone, have owned 6 of them, their quality control system is immaculate.

      • -2

        Sarcasm?
My first one plus had screen issues with random artifacts everywhere which they replaced under warranty…although I paid for postage. Then my wife's oneplus decided that one of the noise cancelling mics would die (common fault on those phones) then mine did the same a few months later. I "fixed" the mic bug through software by disabling it but still quality control? They aren't better than other phone manufacturers in my not so humble opinion…

Well other than the LG bootloop phones. :)

        • -1

          Not sarcasm.

The OP Factory has undergone some pretty major changes since OPO.

You can get a look at the quality control process in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ES-s9KQrUTY

I have never had any issues with a OnePlus phone.

        • -1

They have changed a lot mate. These phones are joint made with OPPO etc. Much higher quality build than most phones like Pixels etc.

      • +2

        6 phones in 4 years?

      • I got a OnePlus One, but had to get it via a US address using ShopMate. With non-removable battery, I was told that I was lucky it shipped. So I haven't taken a chance on that since.

I got a OnePlus 5 from their AU website, soon after they released the 5T (but they stopped selling it here). Waiting for them to make the OnePlus 6 available there, but they'll probably do that, then release a new model (6T?) soon after once again.

Never had any issues with mobiles failing under warranty, but I would always, where it is possible, buy from official channels and get full and proper manufacture support even if it cost a little more.

I've even got a "good Samsung I9505 (4G LTE)", but it isn't good for only one reason, even though Samsung sold many millions of them, they won't update the firmware long enough; I think they should be compelled to, but as they aren't and they don't care enough for their customers, I having bought any newer Samsung phone.

    • +1

I paid $1499 for an og pixel xl, I had to RMA it 5 times. I didn't have a phone for 7 weeks in 1.5 years. I had to reset them so many times that it cost me money by losing data and wasting my time.

I guess it's relative right, buy a cheap phone and it could turn out better than a pixel, or it probably will be better for cheaper

    • -1
      • +1

a sponsored vid is probably not going to be the best indicator

  • +6

Good price for a good phone. Really like my OnePlus 5T.

  • cheapest I have seen

For the red, or for the 8GB model? If the latter, it's not.

    • Where did you see it cheaper (either colours)? is it still available for that price?

      • +2

I got my black 8/128 one from Oneplus with shipping via shopmate for $796 late May.

Really quick phone. I just would prefer the slightly wider screen shape my previous had (Galaxy Note 4). Comes with a basic clear case. You need to use the Dash charger and cable to get the super fast Dash charging. I got some car Dash chargers and extra cables off ebay.

        • +5

          different of pre and +GST
          :(

  • Do they plan on offering any model of the one plus 6 locally?

    • +3

Probably not, Oppo is slaying it in the Australian market and the Find X is pretty expensive. Gotta milk it.

      • They having been claiming "comming soon" for a while now; actually got a OnePlus 5 when it was an option in their AU store.

        https://www.oneplus.com/au

        "Friends in Australia,
Thank you for the amazing support. We're putting sales for this region on hold until we're sure our Aussie fans can get the best OnePlus experience. We'll continue to provide the promised after-sales support for OnePlus 5 users in Australia."

    If not this:

Ships within 12 days, Delivery estimate: 20~30 days

    • I see nothing wrong with that? Completely normal for China.

      • Yes. Just sharing my opinion. For a phone that is nearly $800, I wouldn't want to wait around 30-40 days? There are Ali express sellers who deliver phones within 10 days using DHL. There is no express option here.

        • +5

Joybuy orders usually arrive in 2 weeks based on previous deals. The maximum time is to cover their ass.

        • +1

          @Clear:

My first joybuy order took over 3 weeks… Approx 4.

        • @tlai: Depends which store you buy from, how large the package is and where you are. They use different couriers.

  • -7

If it is chinese version, forget about it. you will not have google play store preinstalled. it means you can not download any apps. It is not covered by JOYBUY warranty if you can not access the google play store. You have to pay a lot to post a item with battery back to China.

    • +1

The description says it is and Joybuy are providing instructions on how to flash the international ROM onto it easily. So I don't think their warranty is void

      • Wow this is the China version? Oneplus 6 has a HK/intl version with Oxygen OS (ie. google play services). It goes for HK$4498 or AU$750. Judging from the listed price I assumed this is the intl version. This is NOT a deal if it's the China version with a DIY intstruction for ROM flashing.

        • +1

How is it not a deal if it is China version? They're physically the same phone. The only difference is the ROM they run. Perhaps the version you saw was the 6GB RAM variant?

As for updating its as simple as putting a zip file on the phone, rebooting the phone into recovery and selecting update.

        • @Clear: because the Oneplus china versions are always priced cheaper. In this case RMB3599 or AU$713.

        • @Penpinch: Okay where do we get it for that price?

    • +1

learned the hard way about this from sharp aquos s2 deal (1/4 of the price thankfully!). definitely save yourself the hassle of Chinese version phones.

    • +4

For OnePlus phones, you only have to download and install the OS that has Google services (Hydrogen vs Oxygen). For Sharp Aquos S2, it's another story. So you don't have to worry about buying OP from China.

  • +1

Note 9 is coming but will twice as expensive.

  • I got my S9+ a month for $950 from Amaysim, with a 2 year Amaysim warranty, shipped in ~1.5 weeks. Surely this deal doesn't stand close to it? Could anyone explain why you'd opt to go for this phone over an S9/S9+?

    • +1

Probably because the s9+ that you bought has 64gb memory and 6gb ram while still costing 200 more?

      • It was 128GB. And do you really need more than 6GB of ram?

        • +3

Yes. The bigger always the better!
Isn't it always the case ?

        • Do you need more than 2gb ram? Do you need a better camera? Do you need waterproofing? Do you need stereo speakers? The answer is no, but they all make a difference to a phones value. The better, or more I won't complain

        • People used to say do you need more than 1gb of ram, then 2gb, then 4gb, heck people used to say why do we even need quad core for phones. While its not a must that we need the latest flagship specs and stuff, if its available, and for a cheaper price of course we're gonna get it. Does that answer satisfy you?

    • Wait this is am import if through Amaysim right?

    • For starters, no Samsung bloatware.

  • 7 136GB for those playing at home

  • -8

This is a fricking phone. Why does it need 8GB of ram?!?!
Not even Windows 10 needs 8GB of ram much less Android!

Since when was $800 for a OnePlus "the best price I've seen"? The best thing about them was their affordability…

    • Dunnoe what your point is. Of course no phone needs 8gb of ram, but it certainly doesnt hurt to have more.

Do you wonder this whenever theres a windows laptop deal which has more than 8gb of ram?

      • -3

You can have gaming laptops with more than 8GBs of ram easy. What's this, a gaming phone??
At least with a laptop you can be doing some very demanding tasks.

        • What's this, a gaming phone??

I don't think you quite understand the way ram management works on a phone. It isn't the same as a laptop/computer…

        • -1

@Butt Scratcher: wouldn't it have been more logical to lower the cost of the phone rather than making it have 8gb of ram?
The phone obviously does fine without that much. Would get greater sales if they had the price lower?

        • +4

@pennypincher98: Everyone has their own preferences. You in particular, see no value in a phone with 8gb of ram in a phone, so don't buy it. There are plenty of cheaper phones with <8gb of ram.

My current phones have 3/4gb of ram, I certainly don't think you NEED anymore than that. But if I was going for a flagship phone, I would certainly love if it had 8gb.

So no, I don't agree with that. The great thing about the phone market, is that there are plenty of options out there (I just wish they brought back removable batteries). This one in particular, apparently doesnt suit you

        • @Butt Scratcher: this is a very fair response. I didn't realise there was a market for phones with 8gb ram but I agree that it's great to have so much variety.
Not about suiting me as much as suiting the average customer but fair call.
I guess all phones get more expensive the more get released..

        • @pennypincher98: RAM on phone costs much less than on computer/laptop.

    • Android does. Less reloading is amazong, Chrome won't keep reloading tabs, apps won't need to keep reloading etc. Proof coming from note 8 to pixel 2.

      • -2

Pixel 2 has 4GB of ram which is at the point where you can see difference.
I haven't tested 8GB of ram in a phone so I'm not 100% sure but the Pixel 2 never skips a beat and is already as fast as Android can get?

        • Pixel 2 reloading a tabs and apps worse than my old S8 does. It's not about speed, it's about usability, not having to reload apps constantly

        • @OnlinePred: I haven't found a situation yet where I was wishing I had double the ram in my phone yet, or wishing it was faster.

        • @pennypincher98: I noticed straight away coming from a note 8. When the pixel 2 is the most expensive phone I've owned, it's not something I expect.

    • +1

Long term, you will thank the 8gb. Short term no difference between 6gb/8gb.

  • -7

please have a try and see if you can get google play store installed on this phone. if not,the price you are paying is only for phone call and SMS. The guide to flash to international version is just a lie. Google is totally blocked in China. so Chinese version is not for International market. NOT A DEAL AT ALL.

  • I take it that's not including GST?

Still ..for the specs this is not baf

    • Champ, do you not read or are you just lazy? Your spelling is terrible too Jesus..

cheapest I have seen incl GST

      • +7

        Bahaha oops

        Heer haf e chil pil;)

  • IMO.. Don't bother getting red TBH.. the sheen is pinkish/red like the OP5T I purchased last year and returned it

  • im planning to get it when i'm in either UK/US in 2 months time. their invoicing are all done from HK, cant claim anything at all.

  • Funny that this is a mid range phone in the USA .. are dollar prices are making us a second world country, like our Labor isn't worth much as someone that does the same job in the USA : /

  • +1

Once I clicked buy it and filled the delivery address 10% tax added on top of the price.

    • Same, GST was added on the check out screen which makes it more than USD$532.34.

      • Title is wrong yeah, but the AUD equivalent price includes the GST.

  • -2

This is not a cheap price…don't know how this is a bargain

    • Where is it cheaper?

    • Agreed. Oneplus was originally about super cheap "flagship killer" phones. Now $800 is considered a bargain price?

I suppose you could blame Apple, Samsung and Google for trying to make $1500 a normal price for a flagship. Thus being "only" $1000 is cheap?

      • +2

        YOU ROUNDED UP TWICE.

        • -1

So? You understood my example perfectly.

          The OnePlus one was US299-349.

      • Hmm buy $800 phone, or $1500 phone. Damn OP for making such expensive phones…. LOL

    • +1

Where have you seen it cheaper pls?

      • +1

Doubt we will see it. 9/10 they link something NOT available to Australia or don't respond at all.

  • +2

I got the Marvel edition for about 900ish during one of those ebay sales a month ago and I am pretty happy with the OP6 overall. I bought an S9+ and the camera shattered with a slight drop and Samsung support said it wasn't covered for accidental damage…..It was going to cost a few hundred to replace it which is why I got the Marvel edition 256gb storage. Ebay currently have the black version for about $758 with code PENNY5 for the 128GB version. You would want to put a case on it and so really the red wont make a difference, unless you dont use a case and then red is a must. Your phone you roll the dice. But the phone is solid.

    • +2

You bought a ~$1200 S9+, broke the camera, got quoted "a few hundred" (whatever that means - likely no more than $250 given what camera modules and assemblies actually cost) to repair it, and instead paid ~$900 for a new phone?

      Wat.

      • I know it sounds a bit off, but the fact that it cracked so easily i wasn't convinced with the construction. I mean it wasn't a huge drop like it fell out of my pocket while sitting and it just shattered. I then decided to just go for a whole new phone. I'm getting the samsung fixed and resold, I'm saying what happened to me probably long winded but I think that damn phone was cursed. I just wanted to say that the OP6 is a solid phone and its been great for me so far. Also having 256GB storage is nice as I only had 64gb with a 128gb card with the samsung.
