  • Which of the 4 above are the best deals?

    • +6

Depends on your circumstance, the 120k or 90k Westpac cards are the standout but only if you're ok with 2 seperate credit checks (1 from Westpac 1 from Amex). The St. George one isn't too bad with the reduced fee. I jumped the gun on the 90k Westpac one about 6 weeks ago….if I waited until now I could have signed up for the 120k Westpac promo and an extra 10k through this deal.

      • +4

It seems like the Westpac offers would also mean that you're ineligible for any other Amex sign up bonuses for another 18 months (their standard period IIRC), which should be borne in mind. That's the reason I'm not jumping on those, I'd rather take 90k and be eligible for another Amex bonus in a few months.

        • Aren't bank issued Amex different?

        • +1

          @albanyson:

Bank issued Amex is treated separately to the real Amex issued cards.

        • @vapingwinnieblues:
Yeah, comment above "any other amex"
          Hmmm

        • +3

          @vapingwinnieblues:

No such thing as bank issued Amex cards now I don't believe

Certainly in this instance the companion card you get is a direct Amex card and as such you would be ineligible for any other Amex direct sign up offers. So ely has the right idea - get the 90k one and then get a direct Amex card for max bonus points

        • At this stage I personally wouldn't invest too much time in bank issued Amex's anymore unless you're specifically chasing the bonus sign ons. I've switched all my cards to Amex issued (3 is max) and keep a St George Signature card for VISA/MC purchases. Otherwise I just use Rewardpay for all Amex purchases for everything else (business usage purposes)

Sorry if this is a little off topic!

        • @digitalane:

Ahh. Just realised just now. It appears they've gone down that route. My apologies it has been a while since I've cared to look at Amex companion cards.

It is probably a good reason why they're still promoting it too!

        • +2

@albanyson: This is not a bank issued Amex (that's why there are two credit checks); bank issued is uncommon since the RBA interchange caps.

        • @ely: To all of the above… Apparently in spite of this being a directly issued card, Pointhacks claims that "However, for bonus points eligibility, this card is considered to be a bank-issued card, so won’t affect your eligibility for bonus points on American Express-issued cards"[1] and so I appear to be wrong. Not sure where their info comes from but they do generally know their shit and so they're probably correct.

Also, 120k bonus offer now has a $0 annual fee sweetener.

          [1] https://www.pointhacks.com.au/credit-cards/westpac-altitude-…

        • @ely: Just to be clear, that seems to be specifically limited to the Westpac Altitude Black.

      • +2

If you already have an Amex issued by AMEX, would you still be eligible for the bonus Qantas points on your bank issued Amex from Westpac?

        • Yeah good question, and will it make you ineligible for another for 18 months??

        • @NoDiggerty: yes you are
I have the platinum edge and signed up for the westpac one (75+15) didn't hit the 3k on the amex though but I should get the points, was nothing on the T&C.
ps not sure about how long ineligible

    • -7

All of them cause additional loss of money compared to not using them.

  • Please I would like to know as well

  • So it's fine if you already have the Card?

  • I judt received my card two weeks ago…. Am I eligible?

    • +11

You know what…after reading the fine print again maybe..

"To take advantage of this 10,000 bonus points offer, you must: a) register for the offer at qantas.com/sunrise by 11.59pm (AEST) 19 August 2018; b) apply and be approved for a Qantas Points earning credit card that appears on qantas.com/cards; and c) use your Qantas Points earning credit card to make eligible purchase and have these points credited to your account by 11.59pm (AEST) 1 November 2018."

It says you have to register and be approved for a card that appears on qantas.com/cards. It can't hurt to register and try!

      • Thanks for that.
        Def will register

      • +2

Yep, the way I read it is that the system will credit you the points if you have registered by 19 August 2018 and if there is a statement credit from one of those cards by November. Since I have about 3 of the cards listed, I expect any spend this month would trigger the 10K points. Guess we'll find out.

      • It can't hurt to register and try!

Damn straight! Registration ought to be automatic with OzB membership.

  • Argh crap I just got a amplify platinum card, would this have applied to that?

      • +1

        I did and registered!

        • 😇

        • @muncan:

I hope it pans out, then I get 60k bonus points on a no annual fee for first year card!

        • @serpserpserp: how did you get no annual fee for the amplify card?

        • @suppycu: I just checked in my St George account portal just now. It looks like a targeted offer for current St George customers.

  • +1

Pretty sure you have to apply through their portal as they get paid for the referral and then can correlate the points to pay

    • Ts & Cs don't seem to indicate that, thought I would have thought the same.

      • easy enough to register, buy a coffee and wait for the 10k points :) we ll find out soon :)

  • Great! Got the Westpac Platinum a few months ago and hit my $3k spend last week. Applied for the St George Platinum last week and am waiting for my payslips to be verified. Looks like I'll be able to take advantage of this as I haven't received the St George card yet!

  • Nice one, thanks!

  • Digging deeper I see the URL from ozbargain is

    https://www.westpac.com.au/personal-banking/credit-cards/ame…

    vs the qantas

    https://www.westpac.com.au/personal-banking/credit-cards/ame…

i.e. the same. So the only thing that could possibly exclude you is your sign up date/anniversary date.

    • They are not the same. The Qantas one has additional tracker code at the end which identifies that you came from the Qantas site, ie. utm_source=qant&utm_medium=ban&utm_campaign=t3-bau_1807

      • I see the code t3-bau_1807 appear in both URLs.

        • Sure, but my point is that Westpac can easily tell whether you clicked through from the Qantas site just by looking at the utm_* query parameters. If they're missing or different, you obviously didn't click the link in the Qantas site. For example, anyone that clicked the link on Qantas will have utm_source=qant in the URL. I'm not saying they are checking these particular parameters - they might be using them solely for Google Analytics - but they can tell if they want to.

Having said that, given the wording of the T&C's, you could argue that that you are eligible even if you did use another link.

  • -1

How much is a Qantas point worth?

    • 1 to 1.3 cent per point

    • +1

About 2c if used on flights. About 1c if used on shopping.

  • I've joined Westpac Platinum bundle a month ago.

Can I additionally join Westpac Black bundle this time?

    • New card holders only. 12 month cooldown. Same sith all banks.

    • That might actually be a good idea. You wouldn't be eligible for the 80K bonus points but you wouldn't be extending the cool down period either. Still get this 10K points offer, the $0 annual fee and possibility of lounge invitations.

I'd so go for the Black (I have the Platinum too) as I can take the credit score hit but I hate calling to cancel cards.

      • -2

I think I seen you can cancel Westpac cards online now, do bank of Melbourne use the same internet banking?

  • How do I get the 10,000 extra bonus Qantas Points?

    Register before 19 August 2018
Visit qantas.com/cards and choose the best card for you
Make an eligible purchase on your new card before 20 September to ensure that the points you’ve earned from your purchase are credited to your Qantas Frequent Flyer account before 1 November 2018
And then, 10,000 bonus Qantas Points will be yours.

  • So I'm confused, do you have to apply and be approved for a card AFTER you register or can you be already in possession of a Qantas points card from the site and register?

I've already got 2 QF earning cards that are on that site, literally got one in June and one in July..

    • I'm not 100% but looking at the terms and conditions below I've highlighted the parts that stand out to me

To take advantage of this 10,000 bonus points offer, you must: a) register for the offer at qantas.com/sunrise by 11.59pm (AEST) 19 August 2018; b) apply and be approved for a Qantas Points earning credit card that appears on qantas.com/cards; and c) use your Qantas Points earning credit card to make eligible purchase and have these points credited to your account by 11.59pm (AEST) 1 November 2018. Qantas Points are taken to be credited on the date they appear in the Qantas Frequent Flyer Activity Statement which can be checked online at qantas.com/youraccount. Depending on the statement cycle of the Qantas Points earning credit card, typically it can take up to 40 days for points to be credited to the Qantas Frequent Flyer account after making an eligible purchase on a Qantas Points earning credit card. Accordingly, eligible purchases made on your Qantas Points earning credit card after 20 September 2018 may or may not be credited by 1 November 2018. Please allow up to eight weeks after the registration period for the 10,000 bonus Qantas Points to be credited to your Qantas Frequent Flyer account with the description 'Credit Card Bonus Points’. The 10,000 bonus Qantas Points are offered by Qantas and are separate to bonus points offers from our program partners.

It only says a credit card that appears on qantas.com/cards, which to me says that you don't need to have applied for a card via the Qantas website. For part C, how I read this is, aslong as your Qantas points have been transferred from your credit card to your frequent flyer account (as part of the monthly statement cycle) by the 1st of Nov, then you are eligble for the points.

      • +7

Thanks for that. I spoke to someone at Qantas and he told me that existing cardholders are eligible, as long as you do the eligible purchase etc.

Although, not too sure if the guy knew what he was talking about.

        • +3

          he probably wasn't lol

        • -1

          @prankster: wasn't what?

        • This 10,000 is a bonus for Channel 7 Sunrise viewers - so it's quite possible it's a Channel 7 Sunrise promotion rather than Qantas. Might be why the T&C's are rather vague.

Basically seems to be - Register and if the new card points hit the QFF account then you get the 10,000. Would expect only once per registration as it's a bonus per Sunrise viewer (even if you're not..lol)

  • +1

Where do you register if you already have a card? Can’t seem to find a link in my profile

    • Click the link above and then click the register button.
It will get you to log in to your FF account and then youre laughing

      • yeah I just registered, surprisingly all that needed wast he QFF number and click register,

am assuming they track this by monitoriing any transactions that come into your account, and if it comes from an eligible card, youre laughing

        • I don't hear laughing. Oh wait, there it is. 😂

  • What if you have more than one credit card? Can you get the 10k extra points on each card or is it per qantas ff membership?

    • +3

Just spoke to someone at Qantas's credit card department, they said it's only the 10k extra points - no seperate bonus for each card.

  • I registered via the link. I just applied for a credit card 1-2 months ago where I haven't received the FF points for reaching the minimum spend yet. Would I be eligible with that card to receive the 10.000 Points. Or does it have to be a new application?

  • I cant see how pre-existing cards could possibly be declined, as the conditions are simply that the points are earned on a FF credit card and show up in your FF account. Its a lock, im getting those points

  • I might be blind but I can't seem to find what Qantas define as 'eligible' purchases? What and how much do I need to spend?

    • +3

They mean purchases which are eligible to earn QFF points. If you spent money via the ATO on a card which doesn't pay for ATO transactions, the points would never post and you wouldn't get this bonus - so what you need to do is earn some points by Nov.

  • "Sunrise 10,000 bonus Qantas Points
Your registration for the Sunrise 10,000 bonus Qantas Points promotion was successful."

don't know what that means but no harm in registering like what others have done

  • Does anyone track their credit score?

Does applying for these cards reduce your credit score - or just show up in the list?

    Thanks

  • I never had a QFF account before.
My question is do I need to apply for the QFF membership first before I apply those credit card or the bank will automatically create a QFF account for me?
    Thx

    • You need to create it yourself. When you apply for a credit card, they will ask for your Frequent Flyer membership number.

Only takes 2mins to apply and get a QFF membership number. They will then mail you a physical card within a few weeks.

Nice free points, thanks OP and OZbargain.
Since joining this site 5 years ago, I managed to hurt my credit rating and rake up 1 million Qantas points.

    • Let's hope you've also used those points to hurt your liver with F class Dom Perignon!

  • Where can I find the links to these credit card offers?

  • Well. I'm sure I'm going to get the 10k points. Cos I just applied for a card throguh that link.

    Was going to apply anyway

  • When is the last day we can apply for the card? I want to put off applying and having my card approved till the very last date to push back my annual fee pay date as much as possible.

I've already registered for the 10k QF points via link above.

  • From memory Westpac are very strict on approvals and many with no debt but other c cards were declined last time.
Has anyone had that issue again?

    • No issues from me. Apply frequently and got approved for black. I am a westpac customer though.

  • Did anyone receive the 10k points?

    • +1

I'd guess no sweeps would have happened in September yet for anyone. Certainly not for me yet and I have 5 of the cards on the list (2 will be new, so I will be interested to see what triggers it).

  • +1

Guys, I'd recommend you take screen shots and copies of. T and Cs.

About a year ago, I participated in the deal (it was on ozb) as well. It was double Qantas points for three months up to. 5k per month if. I recall correctly

    Months passed and no points.

I called up. And left msgs, spoke to supervisors. Spoke to. Multiple people. Even have investigations done with a assured call. Back. Within x days.. Never got one.
    No.record of any calls.

Even they argued, they've never heard of the offer,

Asked ME to give them the link of the promo which didn't exist any more.

    Got stuffed around big time.

I couldn't believe they said they've never heard of the deal, had no record of past deals.

Promised call backs and investigations. Didn't get one call

Even got the aca involved, and their reply was, no. Record of my calls, the promo, nothing.

    Shocked beyond words

    • Thanks, I have the email, waiting for the 20th to see if the points arrive or if we ll have to wait longer.
Also wondering if it's the visa+amex if we had a westpac bundle…we ll see

    • I guess ultimately for any company, the best outcome would be someone signing up who is ineligible or cannot prove eligibility, getting the commission and not having to hand over the points. Sad, but I imagine they do not have a great incentive to follow up for you.

    • I've not heard of promo links being deleted after expiring… Can understand why they got confused.

      Just incase…

      • for the record, this was my deal that they wouldnt honor

        https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/299906

      • I wonder if we ll still get the points if the credit card is cancelled before the 1/11

        • How would QANTAS know that? I can't see how you wouldn't get the points myself.

        • @trotsky: true. Well time to wait now and see…

  • Sweep just happens for my NAB signature, still no 10k bonus. Will wait till 1/11.

    • +2

TC's say up to 8 weeks after 1/11 so could be a while yet!

      • Still. Don't have mine. Nov 1 is approaching.
Lets see how this will go

  • 2 days to go.

    Any one got their ppitna?

    • +2

Should appear before before new year . I guess could appear in 2 days

Please allow up to eight weeks after the registration period, ending 1 November 2018, for the 10,000 bonus Qantas Points to be credited to your Qantas Frequent Flyer account with the description 'Credit Card Bonus Points’.

  • Not yet for I

    • Please allow up to eight weeks after the registration period, ending 1 November 2018…

That makes 27th December. I assume they will issue them at the very end

  • +1

    so who got 20,000?

    • Me! Thanks for the heads up

    • I did ! Spent way too long trying to find this deal again in OzB because it's the only thing I thought they could be from. Not sure why it's 20k though?

    • I got 20,000 today :)

  • +3

    so just got points…but I think I had too many…I got 60 000 and my partner 30 000…

    • Have you signed up for multiple new cards recently? Perhaps it's per new card that they detected?
