agreed! COTD plus snail mail postage

Intel Atom Processor N455, 1GB RAM, Windows 7 Starter, 250GB HDD

      Intel® Atom™ Processor N450, 2GB RAM, Genuine Windows® vista, 160 GB HDD
      Not really the same

The screen resolution on the HP Mini 5102 from OrangeIT is considerably higher. (Quite important in a netbook, I've been using 1024x576 for far too long.)

CPU comparison for those interested: http://ark.intel.com/Compare.aspx?ids=42503,49491, (Almost no difference)

you are comparing apples and oranges

      COTD vs YOURS/eBAY
      250GB vs 160GB
      1GB RAM vs 2GB RAM
      N455 vs N450 —> Both of which run @ 1.66Ghz
      W7 vs W Vista
      Wireless N vs Wireless b/g/n

i would say that the prices are alright for their given specs
ram is cheap to upgrade, whereas HDD, OS will be costly

      • +1

Oranges? I see what you did there.

There’s almost zero need to upgrade the HDD in a netbook.

Who pays to upgrade their OS? ;)

          haha nice, didn't realize that

Who pays to upgrade their OS? ;)

          shhh :)

i don't think pirating counts as a bargain!

          or is it a b-arrrg-gain…. (imagine a pirate voice…)

        • I meant Linux, of course.

        • Student Win7!

        • Student for the Win (7)?

        • Student Windows 7 is $120 now :( Was AUD$50, US$30

        • It's also worth pointing out that the Mini 110-3020TU (COTD) has a 5400RPM hard drive, whereas the Mini 5102 (OrangeIT) has a 7200RPM hard drive.

  • But, this one has Windows 7 starter, not Vista.

    • There are plenty of Netbook O/S distributions which are free and better than both Vista and Win7 (especially on a netbook).

There's no need to run a Desktop OS on a netbookr.
Points to MeeGo and Ubuntu Netbook Edition.

No "normal" person is going to learn to install and use Linux just to use a netbook!

Windows 7 Starter runs fine on those little machines, although they are definitely better with 2GB of RAM in them.

        • -1

Learn to install and USB? Download USB creator, click button, USB stick installs MeeGo, done.

          Learn to use Linux?
MeeGo TELLS YOU how it use it, it's twenty times easier than windows.

        • +2

No “normal” person is going to learn to install and use Linux just to use a netbook!

+1, many 'average' people would not use Linux rather than W7

many people will just leave the OS installed alone
because it will be difficult for them to install a new OS

ebay deal is an N450 with 2GB RAM 160GB HD, Win Vista,
the catch of the day one is N455 with 1GB RAM, 250GB HD and Win 7..

    both are 6 cell battery

  • +6

the one from orange IT has a 7200rpm hdd not 5400rpm and HD screen not 1024x600 screen.

    • +4
      • the one at orange IT has better build quality :)
      • That is to say it's got a metal chassis (brushed aluminium/magnesium-alloy) rather than plastic.

  • +3

Orange IT one the screen is 1366 x 768 a lot better.

    • My 2nd monitor is a 1280x1024 screen in portrait mode, ie 1024 horizon x 1280 vertical. I occasionally use it to web browse when my main monitor is busy with other stuff.

It's amazing the number of websites that are hard coded to wider than 1024 pixels. More importantly, it's really annoying to have to scroll both horizontally and vertically.

That's why I waited to get a netbook with a >720p display. For me at least, the OrangeIT deal is definitely the more attractive netbook.

It's cheaper, has twice the RAM, and a 58% high resolution screen.

      • 70.75% more?

        • Right you are. That'll teach me to post late at night. :)

  • yup orangeit deal kicks this one.

  • OrangeIT is selling this for $285 delivered.

    Hey guys,
What I want to say is this one is different from the one posted on OrangeITebay. And, think about it, how would you feel the difference between the screens? for a only 10" netbook? Do not always use the better data. For a 10 inch netbook, what is more inportant? Better cpu, ram, and bigger harddisk. Would you expect using the netbook to watch HD movies? The price given by COTD is not bad. And the hardware matches a netbook for this price.

    • +5

umm the orangeit one has a faster harddrive albeit less capacity.. twice the amount of ram.. over 70% more screen real estate (which is so useful on a netbook.. 600 vertical pixels requires so much more scrolling!).. practically the same processor.. and cheaper.. so why pick the COTD one?

    • +1

yes, screen res are very important and cotd sux.

  • definitelt would go orangeIT

  • As it's from COTD, it must be over rated crap. BIG minus from me.

  • Is it hackintoshable ?

  • Orange IT deal FTW. Note a HD (over 720p) screen is more expensive than a HDD. Also: its a netbook, you don't need a whole lot of HDD space. 2GB RAM is also a win for Oragne IT.

  • Netbooks are pretty crap in general. I use my AAO to watch a video on the way to work. It's not LED backlit, so I have to charge it at work and then watch another video on the way home.

Even when I was at uni, it wasn't particularly useful. Sure, they're cheap, but you get what you pay for. A 13.3" laptop is many times more useful.

  • Might as well not bother posting any more COTD "bargains" on here it will get negged to oblivion :D
