        • I'm talking with an Optus manager in person… I'm not going online and connecting it. I'm dealing with a person who is setting it up for me as an actual 4G connection and passing on, I'd expect, a 4G SIM vs a home wireless SIM, on that plan. I'll be testing it obviously, and if the speeds decrease then I'll be within rights to cancel. Where I live we'll get NBN in about 2020 so I need a decent internet speed without going insane. If you're keen then I'd suggest you talk with someone at the Optus stores directly.

PS. I should add I already have a 4G mobile broadband service with Optus which is $70pm with 140gb and I get around 60mbps dl speeds (that was when they did a double-up offer, previously it was $70pm for 70GB but on that special it was 140gb, which I think is worthwhile).

          @khomeini:

Optus store manager deals mainly with the sales part. Majority of trouble shooting they call customer care. Make sure you get it in writing or an email at least for grounds for your cancellation. I'm also with Divitini with this. It is unlikely they'll give you the 4G speeds but rather lock you in on the 12/1. Unless there is an option in the system them to change this config I wouldn't hold my breath.

        • @R3XNebular: Optus 4G data only sim's aren't throttled like vivid wireless as they have data limits.

        • @apptrack:

That's correct however he mentioned moving to a mobile home broadband and then asking for 4g non throttled speeds which is unlikely.

        • @R3XNebular: Oh you're right, yea highly unlikely.

        • Thanks for that but I guess I'll find out either way. I'm an IT nerd in general (and qualified sys/network admin) so know a bit around this and have been moving providers (both phone & internet) for many moons at my org. I deal with business managers and not really storefronts so there are workarounds and certain leverages once you know who to talk to. R3X, I have something in writing and pretty certain I'll get what I'm after. I'll reply here to let you all know how it goes :)

For anyone in the game, I recently got an offer for 1000mb/1GB fibre speeds for ~$799pm!* Now that is crazy - and pretty decent cost wise for a business, here in Aus anyway.(*You must be a qualified not-for-profit)

          @khomeini:

Mate tell us how you go. I've dealt with optus recently and store managers had no power in resolving my issue nor did customer care over the phone. The only option I had was to lodge a complaint with TIO. Then I received an actual call from "executive optus support" who were able to pull some strings. Keep that writing/email/promise and then make a complaint with TIO might get you what you asked for. Please update us I'm eager to hear the results.

        • Bad luck, sounds like a standard telco sales pitch. Telcos in general have bad service, they promise the world but once signed up wash their hands of any issues. Glad your issue was sorted though. I'll keep you posted. Hopefully sign up in the next week or so. If it works it's probably worth it for those of us with crap internet connections at home.

        • @R3XNebular: Just confirming that it's all set up and speeds I'm getting are around 85/100m down & 30 up. So I couldn't be happier. For $70pm & 200GB allowed lets see how quickly I go over. Also mines not on contract so I can cancel at any time - just had to pay for 4g modem.

        • @khomeini:

Nice was it hard to achieve. If I was living in a non NBN area I'd consider it.
Can you give tips on how to get it? Family member lives in non NBN area.

        • @R3XNebular: Not hard at all but the Optus manager will have to combine a few deals/services together to achieve this outcome. What I would do is talk to a business Optus person (rather than in-store) and then ask them if they can provide what you're after. It may depend on the skill or experience of the person you get (do they want to do something they haven't tried before). Normally the higher business ppl or store owners know the best ways to get the most out of their deals. Good luck.

Im paying $65 for nbn(country), I can only obtain 12mbps. Speed test on 4g inside I get 80+mbps on my phone.

        • Fixed wireless?

    • That's exactly what I want to do since no NBN in my area until mid next year. I feel stupid for paying $60 for 6Mbps/1Mbps slow internet (iinet) :-/

  • Is it online only or can be ordered in store? Most of the time I ordered online and the application refused with credit reason (weird, no debt, no credit card, …)

    • Online Only.

    • Go instore and ask them to "walk" you through the online/chat process. You still may get stuck on the credit assessment.

Can we get vodafone to match this deal?

    • I checked with them and the guy I spoke to wouldn't match them. But they added an extra 2b data to my account for free each month.

      • Generous

  • +2

Just FYI mobile TV streaming is +$5 on this plan. The older $40 plan with student discount was same price had it included, though was only 15GB. Something to consider before recontracting.

  • Does Optus support visual voice mail now? If not, no for me although I am looking to switch from Telstra SIM Only (50/m unlimited call/SMS/international tospecific countries, 12GB data).

    • No. But they have voicemail to MMS. They just message you an AMR file you can play/keep forever

      • For five (profanity) dollars per month!

        • Live chat added it for me after advising it would be free. Will see how this months bill turns out

    • Nope but i use their voicemail to SMS options ($5 a month) and it sends me a text. On the occasion it doesn't understand i just listen to it manually.

      • Thanks guys. I got visual voice mail free in SIM Only plans.

  • Would love Telstra to match this..

  • -7

I never like Optus. Even Kogan is better. Optus maybe better than Woolworths.

  • Currently with Telstra and got 15GB for $50 p/month just over 12 months ago. Spoke to their live chat today and they could only offer me 15GB for $49 per month with their "peace of mind" shaping service. They wouldn't budge. Would love to go back to Optus but had virtually no reception in my house last time I was with them.

    • Try a telstra reseller like Aldi? They use the telstra network

  • Just moved from a previous deal I saw on Ozbargain to this. Was previously $30 a month for 12GB, which I signed up for April last year. $6 extra a month for 18GB extra + Optus Sports (doubt I'll ever use Optus Sports though). Beats $10 for an extra 1GB. Then in 12-18 months time I'll sign up to whatever better deal is posted. Probably one of their unlimited but not really unlimited plans by then! :)

    Thanks OP

    • Nobody uses Optus Sport - especially during World Cup.

      • Seems like a good deal if you're into soccer. I'm pretty sure after world world cup fiasco they would have improved the service.

  • Anyone know how coverage is on the Mornington Peninsula these days? I was with Optus previously and got terrible coverage in that area.

    • +1

I have band 28 on my phone and no black spots on the peninsula ….its not just carrier but also handset for coverage so you can use all bands.

  • Good deal except it's Optus

    • The most awful customer service in Australia. Plus their website payment platform constantly break down. Anyone signing up here is in for a bad time.

You can change your plan during your contract term to another
12M SIM Only (online) plan provided you move to a plan with
a higher monthly access fee. You cannot change your plan during
the contract term to a plan with the same or lower monthly
access fee. If you change your plan during your contract term
    a fee may apply.

Any plan with free calls to Switzerland ?

    • would love to know the same ..it is always left out!

Why did Optus take out Philippines from their included countries for international calls?

    • +1

They did that when they introduce the new plans refresh.

    • +1

Cold shoulder to the Fascist State.

    • I just contacted chat, and apparently you can pay an extra $10 a month to include Philippines.

      • That extra call package is not unlimited the last time I checked.

    • +15

There are free calls to The Philippines. It's called the Optus customer support line :P

  • No Croatia for the international calls, so no deal for me.

    • I've never understood why people still use international calling. Maybe for contacting older family members but cant you use facebook/skype or any of the other alternatives to call?

      • +1

Call your bank on Skype / facebook.

What do people use 80GB of data for?

    • I sometimes hit my 13GB with Telstra because my home internet is shocking when everyone is home.. If someone is watching Netflix then there is almost no point trying to use WiFi.

    • +1

Hotspot to my laptop and watch Youtube for hours or download a movie

  • Signed up successfully for the $36 deal

Rep also offered $10 discount for new tablet either Samsung galaxy tab a 8โ€ or iPad 6th gen

    Declined both

    • They must be using the same script, i got the same offer and they offered phones on discount too.

    • is this because you are a student? how do you prove that you are one?

  • When did we all sign up to Optus on the 20g for $30 deal? Was it September or later?

    • September

  • I followed the process online but the 20% OFF was not there (final screen), so I went to the chat and they completed the upgrade. I believe the 20% would be applied anyway, but now I have a chat and confirmation.

I was on a $40/12GB plan… Never reach the 12GB anyway but will pay less.

    Thanks

    • In the original confirmation email it still showed the full price but I got a separate email saying the discount would be applied.

      • Yes, same here. And the chat transcript where I asked the question and she confirmed 15+15GB and the 20% discount.

BTW, I made the request for me and for my partner in two different chat sessions. The first was quick and she didn't offer anything else while I was waiting.

The second one took a long time to make the changes and offered other products ("if you buy a second line today I can include additional GB for $15" -Not interested, thank you. "You can include additional GB to share between the two lines for additional $20". -I'm really not interested, thank you. "What about a Samsung galaxy and an additional data plan for just additional $15?" -Nop…

        What an annoying person!

And as other people have said, several countries have been removed from previous deals. I was going to suggest the upgrade to my father (he's on $40 plan with 7Gb and 300 mins for international calls) but noticed that Philippines has been removed. My parents use the full amount of international calls almost every month and there's no point for them to "upgrade".

      • Just realised not many telcos now do unlimited calls to Philippines, but found the following:
        https://www.belong.com.au/mobile/plans

Belong's $5/mth add-on gives you "Unlimited international calls & text to 36 selected countries"

The plans are actually quite decent, especially if the user doesn't need all the Optus streaming/add-ons, but just calls/text/internet. You get 15GB of data per month if you opt for their $40 plan, which includes that unlimited international calls already.

        The 36 selected countries are:

        Afghanistan
        Austria
        Bangladesh
        Cambodia
        Canada
        Chile
        China

Yeah Philippines was always included in optus free minutes another reason not to join them,

  • Page never loads…

  • Does Optus do data share sims on these plans ?

    • +1

With my existing sim only plan, yes. Once-off $5 for the extra sim (unlike Telstra which is an ongoing extra rate).

      • Do thay still offer data share sims? where can i order one? i have one but need more.

        • Don't think they offer them anymore. I tried a while ago and got knocked back.

        • I "lost" mine (left it in my parents house which is 1200km away) so I got a replacement posted to me after contacting the chat. When I signed up with phone+sim plan it came with a data sim for $5 extra, but the replacement was free.

    • i just asked on chat and got told no

  • Does this include English Premier League? I'm not sure if the $36 covers the service subscription (Usually $15 per month) as well as the data?

    • +1

Yes it does include Optus Sport for EPL free for 12 months then 14.99

  • Seems like awesome inclusions but any comments on roaming?

  • Thanks OP, this is an awesome deal!
I'm on the old $2 days 3G ready unlimited data SIM, which is due to increase to $3/day from the end of this month ie $90/month.
Just bought the 80GB/$52 month SIM with a new number, will keep my unlimited data SIM and throw a few bucks on it if/when I need it. :)

    • On the same boat here. They aimed to raise the fee upto $3/ day but not upgrading to netword 4G (instead of using old 3G network). This is really not good service like Optus, I reckon more choice from Telstra and Vodafone. We should say bye to them.

  • Are the international calls limited to landlines or include mobile? Looking at the Critical Information Summary and can't seem to find anything that clarifies.

    • Calls to mobile are included. Confirmed with cc.

  • +1

Happy to help mate !!!! What a great Deal, I signed up (Out of contract) to the $35 one with 6gb of data, But because I had a phone contract I get an extra 54gb of data so cant really complain. Wonder if I sign up to the $45 plan I'll have 84GB for $36 lol

  • I would caution anyone against going with Optus. You are going to spend so many hours dealing with a chat bot when they overcharge you or their payment system breaks down. Talking 5+ hours each time. They won't let you talk to a real person.

    • Similar negative experience myself. Customer service is terrifyingly poor. Have been to the ombudsman twice over billing issues (one for mobile, one for home internet). Was previously on VF and never had such issues. Good deal if you donโ€™t have issues though.

    • +1

Thats the wrong chat you got connected to in the other tab ๐Ÿ˜‚

    • Umm never had a problem on chat with problems with my phone bill at all, Used chat today and last week to switch plan all was done within minutes..

    • Or they apply 4 discounts and you pay $15 a month for 15GB ;)

  • what does the $5 a month for mobile tv actually cover? Is it just paying to not be charged data?

    cheers

    • -1

You can literally find this out within two clicks. Give a man a fish and all of that…

      • while I had clicked twice, I wasn't sure if there was more to it.

to me it basically said we will charge you 5 bucks for nothing as the amount of data would cover it.

so thought, maybe more to it.

        obviously not

no gives fish, they always sell it. =]

      • Two clicks per person. No clicks for any number of people, if you'd just answered his question (which I was also wondering about).

  • I already pay 32$ for 100GB. Sold the iPad to bring it down from 52$

  • If you have an optus internet connection, you can use this plan to drop it down by $10. Maybe the student code stacks, so then $44 would become $44-10%=$39.60 plus a $10 discount on the broadband. Would love to know if that plan would work.

    • I don't think they do internet bundles anymore.

  • Hmm so im currently on the $40 - 15GB but dont hit 15GB…
Moving to the $36 gives me 30GB and a saving of $4 pm… or $48 over the 12 months.

He said on the phone that after 12 months it goes back to $45 pm but retains 30GB of data.

So I would need to find a new plan after prior to 9 months after the 12 months of the contract to break even, otherwise there getting me to spend more with pm assumin they don't have a $40pm plan like they do right now, so i'd have to jump to the $35 pm plan but only get 3GB of data… which I would exceed….

    I think this is fishy.

    • Risk and reward. Nothing fishy about them honouring a 12mth contract for 12mths or 9mth with an early upgrade

    • when i was chatting to them they said the contract ends after 12 months but will pay $36 a month for 24 months

  • Thanks mate! Had 4 months left on my 25% off 40 plan for 15gb..upgraded no problem.

$6 for extra 15gb,lose unmetered Mobile TV.. No problem at all.

    • Did they charge you termination fees of the remaining 4 months?

  • RIP went $65 for 40gb 2 months ago. Has anyone ever had luck in upgrading their plan? If only they had a $70 for 50+50gb plan or something so I don't have to pay for my cancellation fee…
