Samsung going all Apple with their pricing

    • -1

It's preorder pricing designed to force early adopters onto the highest tier.

Base model will soon be available for $1100 or $1200, making it exactly the same as last year.

Generally speaking, never preorder electronics or software, and check out some reviews before stumping up.

    • +2

If people keeps buying Apple products then I think that's the way it's going to go. I am sure Samsung phone are much better than IPhone in quality and specificaions.

      • -5

Why are android users so hard up on Apple? To each their own I say. I have tried multiple android phones but keep going back to iPhones because they do what I want reliably and updates are frequent and dependable, so is security and Apple warranty is spectacular. For a device I use the most in my life, and something I depend on for work, it’s worth the ‘Apple tax’ to me. No bash against android phones, they’re great and I have a G6 as a backup, but android phones just are not as reliable wrt software and warranty.

        • +2

Apple stuff are overprice and generally weaker specs.
They sell based on styling cool factor.

        • @neostarsx: iphones tend to perform better than android phones with better specs - because the whole environment is tailor made for the hardware [and vice versa].

Personally, they're all too expensive for me; I'll stick with my $185 xiaomi phones.

        • -1

@neostarsx: because specs seem to really matter… apple CPUs blow snapdragon out of the water. It's not even close.

    • They want to be the next trillion dollar company

    • +7

Apple don't sell a 512gb Iphone X, but guessing from their storage tiers it would be about $2200

    • +1

Wait for the folding Samsung phone next year. I bet that'll be like $2k.

  • +1

    Price seems right 😳

  • +3

Jesus. At this price I hope it comes with a HDMI dock and I can play fortnite on it with other PC players :P

    • It comes with a stupid amount of storage space for a phone.

SD845 phones have vastly superior GPUs, though I'm unsure about docks and gaming for either SoC.

      • +1

845 meant to run win10 as well

        • They're overclocking it on a high-binned chip (the 850), but yes, Windows on ARM runs comparatively to a 7th gen i7 U series. Somewhere between that and an 8th gen i5 U when you consider throttling.

      • Benchmarks are already up and it gets owned by the iPhone X. Boo.

        • Dunno why you got downvoted. It’s blatantly obvious Apple is kicking snapdragons ass with its cpu’s

        • @blergmonkeys: how is that relevant to a GPU discussion?

On multicore, the difference is 10%, and Apple SoCs (particularly the GPUs) have a tendency to throttle more heavily.

        • CPU scoring? Sure, but that's nothing new, nor is particularly relevant to what's being discussed here. For gaming, the SD845 is the undisputed king of mobile.

      • +1

I don't think our version gets the SD845.. That's only the US and China… we get the Exynos 9810

        • Of course, but there are 845s being sold in AU. Just suggesting that someone who wants to play mobile games a lot should steer towards the superior GPU as CPU performance between Samsung, Apple and Qualcomm is largely negligible these days.

  • -5

So same as a oneplus 6 with a little more storage for double the price?
    Seems legit.

    • +2

Interesting how you chose to completely ignore stylus to prove your point.

      • -3

I ignored the stylus just like most note users ignore it.
They are rarely actually used, and you can get a stylus for any capacitive screen anyway.
A few people might use them, but this is indeed an exception.
Plain an simple, Samsung have truly gone "Apple" with their pricing and where they perceive their product should belong in the market.
No matter how you might want to twist to a level headed objective person it this is an incredibly overpriced device, this fact can not be denied.

  • +2

Absolutely ridiculous pricing from Samsung. Not sure why people keeping buying their phones ? We moved over to Lg a few years back and have never looked. Save many hundreds of dollars for phones that are as good if not better. In fact I just ordered a new Lg V30 128gb for $689 a couple of days ago. It's a cracking phone and nearly half the price of a Samsung Equivalent.

    • +2

LG have their own issues though. The Nexus 5X bootloop issue for example.

Pixel phones are top dog now in my opinion.

      • +5

Nexus 5x is a few generations ago. Pixel is over priced!!

        • How are they overpriced? Have you actually used one?

        • @Jamiea:

You don't need to use one to find out if its overpriced or not.

      • LG G4 bootloop too

        • I've just bought the Haweii P10 plus and it kicks Samsung and iPhones butt 128 storage and 128 SD and 6 gig of Ram.

    • None of the lg phones I have used come closer to the HTC made Google and then the pixels. Even the HTC m7 I still have at home seemed a better device than any lg phones.
I would stay away from them.
Pixels are heaps better. I use pixel1 and in no hurry to upgrade.

    • +1

and you will save more if moving to xiaomi

    • LG makes the worst phone. Always have some defect they will refuse to fix/recall/acknowledge. Plenty of bootloops through many generations of phone. OLED burn in issues etc..

  • You can buy an awful lot of xiaomi goodness for $1500.

    • +5

You could buy 5 xiaomi robot vacuums and start a robot farm

    • You could buy nearly ten xiaomi phones for that. In fact, I think the sum price of every smart phone I have ever owned is less than $1500

  • -4

bye bye samsung, who will buy? Crazy Rich Asians……..

    • +3

lol Apple has a phone the exact same price with nowhere near the hardware specs

      • +1

Yep Apple iPhone even more overpriced that Samsung. After using Androids and ipads for many years I decided to try the iphone 7 about 15 months ago. My main motivation was the smaller size of the iphone 7 4.7" screen and I just couldn't get a decent android phone like the smaller iphone 7. Now after 15 months of using ithe iphone 7 I can tell you there really isn't any benefits of using iphone over Android. In fact I am more convinced than ever that Apple have fallen behind the better Android phones for the past few years. Just this week I upgraded my wifes Lg G3 phone (which has been excellent and problem free for 3 years) to an Lg V30 and I think it is very likely I will be giving up iphone for an Android phone on my next upgrade.

I'll wait until it comes out and the battery explodes.

    • -1

joke is joke but you have crossed the line

    • I think that joke is expired after Note 8 came out.

    • So after it comes out and if the battery explodes, then what? It's not like you would be able to keep it, let alone buy it.

  • not sure if I can post it here, but Pbtech in NZ also gives out a great deal on pre ordering the phone.
    https://www.pbtech.co.nz/promotions/samsung-galaxy-note9?qr=…
