Subsequent 30 day recharges are $30 if you wish to remain connected

This confused me a bit so to clarify, the CIS states:

If your plan is not set to auto-recharge and you do not recharge your plan, your SIM will remain active for 186 days after your last recharge expires. If you do not recharge again during that time, your SIM will be cancelled.

    • +3

That's pretty standard policy for telcos. You can receive (but not make) calls and text without credit for another 186 days after which your account is cancelled and your number lost. Presumably by "connected" in the first statement they mean two-way communication.

    • The first quote is the cost of 30-day recharges after the promo trial in this deal.

The second quote means if you do not recharge for 186 consecutive days, the SIM is deactivated and you need to buy a new one.

I am currently using their previous 90 day plan, can i use this by porting out or they have my details and wont allow as new customer ?

    • +1

it will work. new customer just means any phone number that is currently not using their service.

  • Easy to turn off auto-recharge?

    • +14

Once you’ve activated your SIM card, don’t forget that your plan will be recharged automatically every 30 days. You can turn off the auto-recharge option on the Catch Connect Dashboard.

        Thanks DetailNerd :D

  • +4

Awesome. Perfect for existing Telstra customers who need to port out then port back in to get their latest $39 deal. Not looking forward to Docklands dialup speed/reception on Optus for the next few days :(

    • Optus in Docklands is terrible

  • +2

    Perfect for kogan jumping

    • +6

This is why I bought it, my Kogan 12 month plan expires on the 6th Sept and they aren't offering me as good a deal as new customers, so they can go & get far away. Thanks TA.

  • +1

I planned to get free sim from Telstra and transfer to catch, but do I need to recharge Telstra sim before doing that?

    • +1

      Nope

      • +1

        Thanks!

    • How do you get free sim from Telstra?

      • online order

  • How long do you need to wait when porting out and back in for it to go smoothly?

    • I understand Kogan system checks for 30 days period, however I am unsure about CatchConnect.

      • Afaik anyone can purchase a Kogan voucher at their special prices. When your plan finishes you recharge using that voucher number.

        • So what you're saying there is literally no need to port out to different carrier then port back in (as a new customer)?

For example, in this deal, we can recharge as many time as we want until 28 February 2019 without the need to port out?

          Can someone confirm this please?

        • @tempura: no thats not right for porting you have to wait a day or so otherwise it gets stuck in their system as well

        • @SirMurduck: that's what i thought; last time when I attempted to port back in, the guy on the phone can actually see I was with Kogan < 30 days but he said "this time I help you activated it".

        • @I know nothing: I thought so too; thanks for confirming!

Perfect for my pocket WiFi and new Hey You account.

Do I need a new email account to register?

  • Thanks heaps OP, Perfect for my new pocket wifi :)

  • Thanks TA. My wifi has been out for almost 2 weeks so the cheap data is a life saver.

  • +3

The website says that recharges are $35 instead of $30 for 15GB. Am I missing something?

    • +2

      My bad. Fixed, thanks :)

  • Auto recharge enabled by default? Does it mean CC is a must?

    • Auto recharge is enable by default, but you can turn it off after you activate.

  • Thanks, once i am cancelling the auto recharge, do you think that they can still charge me for exceeding the balance?

    • +2

its essentially prepaid. Once you waste (exceed) the data, you'll be cut off.

      • +4

one of the biggest Consumer Rights failure is why Telcos are not mandated to apply this policy by default to Postpaid customers (like they do with prepaid customers)

Do NOT go with them. Last time I ported my number and had a really awful experience. I had no serivce for two days. They pulled my number out from my previous provider. But they didn't active it properly. I was so angry on the third day as I NEED TO USE MY PHONE. So I asked them to stop and then I ported to optus which also caused some issues as they are holding my number. They did offer a refund but other than that, they did nothing to compensate me. I will continuously share my experience as long as I have the chance.

    • +1

They pulled my number out from my previous provider

      Who was it?
Just curious because its common knowledge that if you do optus to optus (MVNOs included) it will cause problems.

So I asked them to stop and then I ported to optus which also caused some issues as they are holding my number.

      ??? to Optus to Optus?

      • Catch pulled my number out from Kogan.

Yeah. They said the porting failed after two days. so i cancel the porting.

      • And are you from catch connect? you comments and the negative votes happened all of a sudden

        • Nope.
          I'm on Kogan :D
Porting will fail if its a mismatch of details

negative votes happened all of a sudden

I only have the voting power of -1, not 11…

        • -1

@cwongtech: wondering why you negative mine. I am just sharing my experience with them. Warn people be aware this situation.

        • @talentmyj:
i think its because people deem the negative experience you had is not likely to be experienced by most people, and $1 for 15GB and 30days of calls is a great value.

I'm usually wary in porting my main number as well, as it links to so many services for 2 factor authentication

  • +3

Do not know why i suddenly got 8 down votes in my last comment. But if no one got similar experience. It is fine. I just want to warn people. And I want catch connect to pay for what they have done and their bad customer service

    • +1

Yes I had a familiar experience. Not sure why the negative comments either. My number was out of action for about 5 days after the port had gone wrong. Had countless chats to them and even lodged a complaint to the ombudsman. Eventually the number was ported and they offered me a free recharge. This was on the $15 90 day plan (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/378612) which was a nice of them.

  • So is this prepaid? Does it come with unmetered Stan and Netflix’s

    • Yes. Would say so if it did.

  • Nice, somewhere to hide my number to get away from the non-discounted kogan.

Anybody have a good super basic deal? I need that for my phone calls and I'll use the $4.90 kogan "new customer" 23GB sims in the second sim slot for data.

  • +1

Never use Catch Connect. If I activate the sim on 11 Sep 2018 (within 30 days of purchase), is it still 99 cents, 15Gb/30 days? Or is the deal expired and I will be charged $35?

    • +1

Assuming you bought it at 10:59 10 Sep, you have until 10 Oct to activate it. After that you've lost your 99¢ that's all.

      • Thanks greenpossum! Really appreciate that you took the time to answer my question! 😀!

  • Kogan is defeated

  • I used my previous email address with them before, they still allow me to buy it.

  • +3

Don't forget 5% cashback via Cashrewards

Thank you sir — pending $0.05 AUD back…

    • NO No … Forgot …..

Whats important with these deals is not the "honeymoon rate" but the ongoing rate as one cant just keep changing service providers every month just for the sake of saving a few dollars.

Yes great for any flight-by-night travellers but I dont think any of us OBs fit into that category

So maybe we OBs need to post a standadrd comparison rate just like financial institutions do.
I'd suggest the cost over 12 months would be a good comparison rate.

    • +2

Whats important with these deals is not the "honeymoon rate" but the ongoing rate as one cant just keep changing service providers every month just for the sake of saving a few dollars.

I keep changing it with my pocket WiFi, phone number doesn't matter for me.

Or somebody use them on their phone as second sim for data.

  • If I activate it now and use the 15 GB for 2-3 months. Can I do it?

    • It will start to count 30 days as soon as you activated.

  • Thanks OP - 99 cents cant go wrong (94 with Cashrewards)

I've lost track of the number of prepaid SIMs I've bought over the years for my kids. My teenagers have no particular attachment to their phone number and are just as happy to instantly activate with a new number rather than wait a couple hours/days for porting.

Has anyone ever had an issue with this clause:

You must have less than 4 existing prepaid services to buy this product.

Is there a law connected to this requirement or is it a company policy?

    • no i probably have 20 or so still activated i think they delete after 6 months no recharge.

      • thanks - will push on then!

  • Beware that your number may got stuck with CatchConnect when you try to port out; it's been 2 days and the clock still ticks….

  • No PayPal? No deal

  • Is there a non express shipping option?
I didn't realise there was express shipping charge until I entered my cc details…

    • Just untick the express shipping option. It's not ticked by default.

  • +1

Just activated one may buy another one later for another month for my pocket WiFi.

  • It's funny that the new Kogan deal is one cent cheaper than this.

  • +2

don't forget to turn off auto-recharge once you have activated your sim.

    https://catchconnect.com.au/help/disable-autorecharge

  • Even though the deal is expired but on CatchConnect website it's still going strong…
