Hi everyone
First time posting on OzBargain. Was after a Broadlink RM Pro+ and found them on sale at LightInTheBox.
I searched through OzBargain and the last time they were on sale was in March. Not the cheapest they've ever been but cheaper than RRP.

  • Can this device be used to control garage door from phone as well?

    • +1

      Short answer - it depends.
If the garage door has a fixed code, then yes. For added security, some (many?) use rolling codes that change each time. For these, you can't just 'learn' the code, but need to know the algorithm your system uses to generate new codes.
If you search online you'll probably be able to figure which type you've got.

    • Probably not directly. Most garage doors use code-hopping remotes for extra security.

However, it's probably possible to set up a secondary relay to control your door, if you're technically inclined and have some basic electrical skills. You just need an RF-triggered relay with inching capability, and wire it to your garage door where an external button would normally be connected.

  • Can this be linked with logitech harmony product? The plan is to remote projector where it's located on the different room where the logitech ir transmitter is

    • Probably not linked, but it can replicate any IR signal you send it.

  • Unless you need the RF controller for motorised blinds or something, you may as well get the rm mini m3 instead. But good price for the pro.

    • Agreed. The pro is better if you need to control a/c etc but just for normal tv/soundbar/fetch I use the mini. Got it working via google home on the weekend too.

      • I guess depend on the a/c as all of mine uses IR so a mini is fine.

  • These devices are pretty finicky to connect to your wifi - it expects 2.4ghz, with no wpa2 security on it. Even after paring down a wifi point to it's requirements, I couldn't get it to connect to my wifi (using the app and a variety of reset button presses)

    • no wpa2 security

That's a deal breaker right here. I am not turning down my Wi-Fi security to accommodate a remote controller.

      • Unless the pro is different but the mini connects to my wifi with wpa2 just fine.

        • Upon further reading, it seems superroach has a faulty unit. All Wi-Fi devices bearing the logo since March 2006 must support WPA2.

        • @alvian:
This seems correct, and they have a screenshot deep in their docs with a wpa2 router being used. I'm going to chalk it up to mine being faulty.
