The reason I put 'STRIX' in the title was because I actually received a STRIX card rather than Expedition. Both are almost the same with slightly different cooler design — the STRIX has RGB lighting while Expedition does not. Under the hood they are the same card.

In other news, new RTX / GTX 2000 series cards will be announced soon.

    • +5

RTX2080Ti, RTX2080, RTX2070 are set to be announced and released in the next 12 hours (based on nVidia announcement and simultaneous release of Quatro RTX cards). You can watch the stream here https://www.twitch.tv/nvidia if you plan to be up at 3am. GTX2060 GTX2050 are coming later in the year, likely September and November respectively.

      • RTX2080Ti is priced over $1000 US ..

With added tax's in Australia Expect it to cost around $1900 for the RTX2080Ti

This is what lack of competition does to the market.

  • Motherboard or 6-pin power?

    • +3

My STRIX was 8-pin due to it being factory overclocked.

Expedition will be the same I believe.

      • Great deal but that rules me out based on laziness

      • my strix was 6-pin but that was the 470 that used less power

    • +1

Definitely 8 pin, and 200 watts needed. Got the card last deal and love it for the price point. Playing Fallout 4 at 2560x1440 with ease, there go my nights.

      • do they come with an 8 pin adapter cable to get power into it?

  • +1

I was sent the Expedition, not Strix for I, needed the 8pin connector. Emailed them about the game codes and they responded pretty quickly, card arrived within 2 days to Melbourne.

    • From TechMall (sub-store of PCByte) or TechFast? Similar name but different stores. I got STRIX from this store.

      • +1

Old branding vs new. So you would have got old stock. nVidia cracked the sads and forced all their board partners to not allow partners to use sub brands for both nVidia and AMD. So going forward, all ASUS Strix cards are going to be nVidia only.

  • +2

I messaged them asking about the codes and they said they weren't included in the resellers list for the game promotion but they have contacted AMD and are waiting to hear back.

    • Ahhh too bad. I wonder what the odds of them getting added to the program are.

      • I bought the card anyway because the price is good. Hope they come through with the games.

        • Yeah I am tempted to pull the trigger at this price. If it had the games included it would be a definite yes for me.

        • +1

          @BongoBong: Codes are a yes

        • @Insidious: Thanks! Got a followup from them as well saying they got some vouchers so put my order in!

        • Just got my voucher :)

    • update is on if they have the codes, seems like a good deal if you also score 3 current games.

      • Just got confirmation on codes from the seller

  • Worth upgrading from my R9 280x? gaming on a cheap monitor 75Hz that supposedly has freesync which the 280x didn't support

    • +1

Depends on what you are playing and how often.

The 570 is a decent step up from that card. I don't have freesync but have gsync. I would take less fps and VRR over non VRR any day. So I would get it just for freesync.

    • +1

      internet states its 50% faster
      http://gpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/AMD-RX-570-vs-AMD-R9-28…
      https://www.game-debate.com/gpu/index.php?gid=3951&gid2=2137…

But i think it also uses less power.

      195 Watts vs 225 Watts on the R9 280

    • +1

It's a decent step up and freesync is a great bonus. If you're just gaming on a 75hz monitor then this card will be great for it.

    • +1

And if you throw the 280x up on Gumtree you'll get between 100-150 making it a pretty cheap upgrade

    • +1

For my two cents; Playing at 1080p, I don't really see a reason to upgrade from my 280x just yet.

You still get pretty solid graphics at a decent frame rate on new games - using a 280x isn't really preventing/limiting all that much objectively speaking.

I know I'm going to be waiting for at least one more new card cycle/generation.

    • Took the plunge, RTX cards are out of my price for a while yet and by then I'll be doing a full build so this will keep me ticking along nicely.

  • Any good for PUBG or other more graphically intense mainstream games? Assassins creed, witcher, battlefield etc.

    • I haven't tested PUBG /Fnite , but that game runs better on Nvidia cards than on AMD cards … because Unreal Engine.

But lots of games will run fine on this @ 1080p with High presets. It very slightly trails behind a GTX 1060.

    • +1

Works great for most games at 1080p 60fps.

  • Off topic question / humble brag.. Is a used titan for 350 a good price and what psu should I pair it with?

Percentage chance of dying from people with experience?

    • +1

Depends on which Titan it is.

There are about 7 or 8 different ones.

My experience is very good with GPU's. Again, depends on what it was used for and how long. I don't think Titans die that often.

  • Thinking about upgrading my Asus 750ti Strix with this card, but will my PSU be enough for it? It's a EVGA 430w 80+. I checked there website and on the +12v rail the max output is 34A & 408w and this website says https://www.game-debate.com/gpu/index.php?gid=3951&gid2=2137… recommended PSU specs are 500 Watts & 30 Amps, but then I've read up some reddit posts about people with the same card saying there system only pulls 300 @ max load.

What do you guys think new psu or will I just get away with it?

    • +1

EVGA has decent power supplies. Will be fine.

    • You'll probably be fine but remember the PSU if you have issues.

    • Yeah, it wouldn't pull more than 300W. That PSU should be fine as these cards aren't that power hungry. Just don't go too overboard with overclocking and it should be just fine.

  • +1

My gtx 970 brings all the nerds to the yard…

    • -1

      Damn right!

PS this RX570 for $215 is overpriced. Not for current 2017-2018 trend (it's cheap), but for the Classical GPU Trend there should be RX580's listed for under $200 that people shouldn't be buying.

In any case, I wouldn't recommend buying this card until another month. In that time (if you can wait) we can confirm the price and performance of Nvidias new range of cards. And it might even cause AMD to make some leaks/announcements too. But at the worst you would see this deal re-emerge, but better you might be able to get a much faster card (eg 1070) close to the same price. And in a best-case scenario you might get one of the new Nvidia cards which might offer better performance-per-dollar.

      • +1

I'd agree but this card is low to mid end. 1070 won't even come close to this, nor 1060 and the 2070, 2080 will be very expensive for quite some time.

        • You're probably right.
I'm just expecting to see the GTX 1060 used ones popping up for around $200 in early-December. Maybe even a 1070 for around $300, which would be a bargain. Dunno depends on how the market reacts I guess.

  • +1

only losing out by a very close margin of 10 to 15 percent

10% is a significant, noticeable difference when it comes to GPU performance. It's exceptional bang for buck though.

  • +2

Not sure why I am the first to say this but it's overnight that nvidia announce their new cards and only someone who needs it for the weekend should buy new today when a bunch of next gen stuff is about to emerge. I can already see some pretty tasty fire sales occurring on ebay.

    • +1

Depends on your budget as well I suppose. The announcement will not effect the pricing at this time for these cards. The mid range cards are only releasing much later.

      • +1

I think there will be some price pressure on most cards - because we're going to get the 10 series being pushed down to accommodate the 20 series. Lots of people will liquidate their 10 series cards, too.

        • +1

Yep, it will most definitely affect these RX 570 cards.

The only cards it won't affect are those in consoles and laptops, and possibly the cheapest cards (GT 1030, RX 550).

It happens every launch. And each time there's someone saying it will be different. No, technological progress does not wait for anyone.

    • See first post ;)

  • Much of an upgrade for GTX 580?

    • +1

Gtx 580 is as fast or slower than a GTX 1050ti. You are looking at at least double the performance, even more on dx12 and vulkan titles.

      • *GTX 1060 Ti

The full-card, with 6GB VRAM, and 9Gbps boost. In contrast to the regular GTX 1060 which is cut-down, only 3GB VRAM, and no boost.

The GTX 1050 Ti is much slower than the underlocked RX 470-4GB, let alone the overclocked RX 580-8GB.

edit: misread the "GTX 580" as the "RX 580". And I would say the old Fermi card is probably closer to GTX 660Ti/760/950/1050 cards…the GTX 1050 Ti would probably run much faster. Not to mention A LOT more quieter, cooler, and require less attention.

PS one way of measuring progress would be to look at the OLDxx80 vs NEWxx70 of each generation. The leap from 500-series to 600-series was about "2 card levels". The jump from 600 to 700 was almost nonexistent "0.5 card level", and just a rebrand. The jump from 700 to 900 was a good jump "1 card level", and Pascal was also a good leap from the 900 to the 1000-series at around "1.5 card leap". We don't know about the 2000-series and many are saying it will be huge "2 card level" leap…though I think it will most definitely be "1 card level". Ie a GTX 980Ti ~ 1070 Ti ~ 2060 Ti. All that Realtime Raytracing stuff won't be a big deal until Q3 2020. And even then, the PC Games market will be dragged lower by the Console market (ie Xbox V/PS5 both will use AMD APU's without Raytracing hardware).

  • +2

I need a low profile card instead :(

    • The 1050ti is the best you can get right now. Maybe you can wait and hope for a 2050 or 2050ti.

      • +2

Budget and mid range cards will not come at least until November or december. Usually what Nvidia does is release the top-end cards first… then a month later they'll release the mid range, then the budget range.

So it'll be a pretty long wait, for those who are wondering what you can buy with a small budget of less than $250 dollars. The leaks currently do not mention any cards lower than the GTX 2060 5GB.

But if your wallets are deep (and your case is large to fit full cards) the GTX 2060 2080 and 2080 Ti will launch this week.

        • This week? hot damn I thought we were still months away from brand spanking new cards. I guess I was thinking about the highest end cards.

        • +1

Typo. Meant to say GTX 2080, not GTX 2060. The latter is more likely going to be be much later in the year.

    • What for? I have the itx RX560 in a 4K media center.

  • +1

Don't forget to chase for a code from seller for the 3 free games after purchase.

    • Only participant retailers, such as computer alliance , ple, centrecom, etc.

      • Tech Mall honoured it on the last deal even though I wasn't holding my breath.

  • +2

Both the RX 570 and the 1060 3GB should be cheaper than this, to be honest (and probably have been in the past).

Solid deal, just lamenting the state of things despite an imminent launch announcement.

  • You da man Scrimshaw! Hi Five!

  • Have this one got send the strix 570 like scrimshaw, absolutely great value for money. 144 fps + in esport titles with 8400 like rainbow6, overwatch if you turn some settings on low/med instead of epic. In more cinematic games you use the freesync to get a nice experience if the fps drops below 144.

    • Did you buy from this seller Techfast or last deal's Techmall ?

  • i know the new cards will be annouced very soon, but this is still good deal….

  • Could anyone work out with this supplier to get the AMD 3-game code yet?

Hopefully, they can get the deal with AMD.

    • They had the vouchers in the previous deal so they must be able to get them. They said they will get back within a week.

    • Just got emailed my code from the seller

      • Would you be able to resell the game codes or does it lock into your account.

        • You need to go through the AMD rewards page, part of its validation is it checks to see if you have the required GPU installed in your system. I haven't received my card yet so don't know how it delivers the games after that step. I guess there would be a way to trick it but probably more involved then its worth.

  • Did anyone get their cards delivered, is it the Expedition or Strix Edition, did anyone request a particular version and got it ?

    • I asked about that and they said "Currently we are moving over from our expedition stock and have been upgrading our customers to the STRIX version"

So it's a very good chance it will be Strix

      • You'd think they would upgrade their stock photo/description. Strix is a much better 570 than the Expedition.

        • +1

I got the Strix version yesterday and already claimed 3 games using the card. Dunno how exactly they gonna issue keys - for now my account at AMD site's just showing 'Your key will be assigned as soon as it is available.'

Two of the games will be on steam and all of them will be released in Sept-Oct.

        • I got sent the strix and it's not much better. At face value yes I thought it was sweet as ya know free upgrade but I read the reviews and they still have heat issues if manually overclocked and the factory speeds are the same as Expedition. All you get is cooler sounding name, rgb, and ASUS ROG brand rep.

        • @McCree: Any link to review that says that heat is an issue?

        • Nevermind. It seems you're right, at least the memory doesn't have much overclocking headroom. Reviews seem to suggest 1380Mhz is a realistic overlock for the GPU though. I wonder if the expedition version was any better.

        • +1

@Yuri Lowell: It's still a free upgrade so I'm not complaining, card performs well for me on a budget

    • +1

I purchased one from them before this deal was posted here and received Strix.

    • +1

I just received mine in the mail and can confirm that I got the Strix Edition.

  • Got mine today as well…and can confirm I got the Strix Edition as well!
