  • Hi
I got a sim from the previous deal and didn't continue using it when the data finished.

When it says new customers, does this mean I wont be able to get this deal?

I did activate the previous one and link it?

Good option for those who doesn't wanna commit to adsl or such :
Adsl at my place is soo slow

    • +6

You can get this deal, you'll just have to opt for "I want a new number".

      • Thanks!

      • +4

Yes, I have so many expired prepaid SIM recently.

  • Whats the minimum number of days to drop off their system as a customer?

    • +3

      From memory it's 30 days…

    • 0 As long as you port in or register a new number you're fine. The only thing you can't do is port kogan-kogan or use this to add credit to an existing kogan account.

      • +3

It was until a few months ago when they started implementing the 30 days out-of-network policy

    • Just call and cancel the SIM.

  • So if I'm currently a kogan mobile customer could I get this and just get a new number or it won't work?

  • I have an older voucher and a sim card that I will not use as I am using Boost atm.
It expires the 31th of August.
Can give the sim in Brisbane CBD or Fortitude Valley and the voucher as well.
Feel free to send me a message ! :)

    • Can I just have the voucher please? PMed

Edit: Sorry your PMs are not enabled. If you are still interested please PM me the voucher code as I don't need the SIM.

      Thanks

    • Or you can just PM the voucher code to people if they already have a SIM.

    • +1

      Already sorted out :)

  • Do you need to link a credit card to activate?

    • yes i think so but you can deactivate auto recharge immediately upon.

      • Watch out, it will auto enable quietly.

        • Happen to anyone else ?

        • @finbar: activated one today, and auto-recharge is automatic. i'm pretty sure there was previously a tickbox on activation that allowed you to opt out.

        • @inamberclad:

Oh okay. Thanks for the reply. I was already aware that it will enable during signup. Its very easy to disable. I thought that once its been disabled, "it will auto enable quietly".

        • @finbar:

          "it will auto enable quietly".

          Never have this before.

You can untick auto renew during activation.

        • +2

          @superforever:
Not anymore. You have to do it after activation

        • @finbar:

Really? The one I activated month ago still have this option.

I am using Catch Connect $1 at the moment.

        • There is also now an option to remove credit card details from your account after activation… so I don't know how it could auto enable without that…

        • @happirt: Unless it's lying about removing your CC details..

        • @illumination: that's why I specifically worded it 'remove cc details from account' rather than 'remove cc details from system'

  • +2

Thanks Op. Just bought one for a visiting relative.

    • +9

It's ok to say it's for yourself. We won't judge

    • +1

This would be perfect for a visitor here for a couple weeks or so.
I wish there was something like this for my trip to the States.

Need one for the december period. Is Kogan likely to do another deal like this then?

  • Why is it that Kogan includes at least 4 Sim cards every time I get one of these deals?

Great timing as well, use these just for the data!

  • I'm coming off a year long contract and have been looking at these 1 month prepaid SIMS, do people just buy lots of them and activate one after another or do you need to find another provider/plan at the end of 1 month? I'm confused how they work

    • +2

If you have a dual sim phone, you could just use one for calls/txts, and the other for data. That way you don't have to worry about porting in/out all the time.

    • +8

Yes you finder another provider after each month and port in and out from there. If you’re savy enough you can average about $2–$5 each month using this technique. The savings alone can go towards a new phone.

        • +10

I’m comparing the savings you make if you were on a plan.

        • +7

I've been porting regularly for the last 3 years, and my out of pocket cost for used services so far is $132.79, and my net cost (after cashbacks, rebatr, etc) is -$111.11 (yes, a negative figure, i.e. I got paid to have a mobile).

I have enough SIMs stashed for another 18 months of service, and the total out-of-pocket cost for those was $41.83.

So that's 4.5 years of service for a net cost of -$69.28. If you can do better than that on a plan, please post it as a deal.

At a minimum, on a plan vaguely equivalent you'd be looking at $25/month (and it wouldn't include anywhere near as much data as I usually get). Total cost over that time would be 25124.5 = $1350. The difference between those 2 approaches would buy you 90% of an iPhone X ;-)

        • @nickj: depends what value you put on time and convenience.

I could go to the supermarket at the end of the day and get marked down food but can't be bothered as too many other important things in life

        • +3

@chumlee: This is a very important point.

I, like nickj, am also a SIM Slut and I probably have close to net cost $0 mobile service over the last few years as well. It looks like nickj's probably kept a spreadsheet of his records so he can provide very precise figures. I haven't.

In addition, I really enjoy it. It's like a game, a challenge to me, to get such a cheap mobile service.

But as I said, it's important you factor in the additional time, the potential headaches and the perceived inconvenience surrounding such behaviour. It is not at all unusual for someone to hear what nickj and I do, and think, "uh, it's so much easier to just get a plan".

It's true - and it's important not to ignore this. Convenience costs money, and some people are willing to pay for it.

aeoz completely misunderstood the point though lol.

        • +2

Absolutely agree with @illumination. I treat it like a game and enjoy the challenge too, for having a decent service for very few dollars. But there is most definitely a cost in time and convenience. I've learned to minimize that cost by following guidelines/rules, e.g. porting during porting hours, porting before service expiry, porting in the morning to leave more time to resolve problems should they arise, avoiding carriers who have had previous porting problems or by adding extra time for porting to/from them, avoiding porting within the same network, avoiding porting twice in the same day, contacting support if the port has not succeeded within 3 hours, and so forth. But it is absolutely more effort and takes more time than a set-and-forget plan, no denying that at all.

        • +1

          @nickj:
You and I think very alike Nick. Similar story with me although I think you might have just shaded me in the tight ass telco stakes. Not by much though 😉 Those $1 woolies Sims a couple of years back were a gold mine. Grabbed a stack and only just recently ran out.

        • +2

          @nickj:
Agreed on needing to take the effort into account, but you can get to a point where it's pretty automatic.

Case in point, I use a dual sim phone and keep my main number on Telstra (grandfathered Simplicity plan) which I extend with another Telstra Simplicity sim living in another phone, by creditme2u $1 to each other once every 2 weeks. As I have about $250 worth of credit between the 2 Sims, that is going to last me a long time and I don't use the credit for any other purpose.

Then in the other sim slot I just use whatever free or better deal gets advertised here monthly, or buy some cheap long expiring data Sims for later. My current outlay overall is $60 over the last 5 years and I have 300gbs of unexpiring data to use whenever.

I've now learned to not buy any Sims unless it's almost free or better, and the effort is a tiny once per month new sim sign up, plus 1 minute every 2 weeks to extend my main Telstra sims.

  • +1

It's so good to use a dual sim phone because of this deal. Thanks Kogan!

  • I knew this would come back. thanks!

  • -6

    No thanks.

Once the Kogan Mobile service has been activated on koganmobile.com.au the Kogan Mobile service is provided by Vodafone in accordance with Vodafone’s Standard Form of Agreement. Details on inclusions for Kogan

    • +3

and which part of Vodafone’s Standard Form of Agreement do you not like?

  • i love these. just got 3. thanks :)

    • +1

You don't have long to activate them.

Voucher expires at 11:59pm AEDT on 11/10/2018.

  • +1

Very good i use this for free uber eats, uber and taxify credits !!

    • Also Hey You

    • +1

How do you get around ubers imei matching?

      • I didn't know they matched imei - but you can sign up on the website right?

        • +2

Sure, but if you try and order a ride from the app and you've use that phone before, even with a different sim, it will fail.

        • @chickenface: yep, just tried it last week and could not order a ride at all.

  • +1

whole 1 cent cheaper than ever.

I'm holding out for <97 cents

  • From memory, there's another Kogan deal, which activation expiry last until February 2019?

    • +1

      Yep, that one's here.

So that one's better if you need a voucher that lasts longer.

  • New email for new customers?

    • +1

      negative

  • So cheap!!!

  • +1

Cheap, but it's cheaper when your work pays for your phone :)

    • +8

But then you have to work

  • +1

I wonder does any casual internet ozbargainer just buy the $4.90 one and forget about nbn or ADSL at the moment for next 12 months? Surely I'm not alone in connecting my parents that way. Haha

    • what do you use as a hotspot?

      • Samsung Galaxy S3 4G constantly plugged in charging

      • Old one plus with constant charging, and if that fail still got s4, nexus, s6 lol

      • I am using a FREE Vodafone branded phone from Woolies (old) constantly charged. So no cost from the phone.

    • Which $4.90 option?

      • The one from before, I think there's link up there in this thread

    • +1

Been doing it at my little office/warehouse for around 6 months. Only use it to monitor my alarm/cameras and occasional PC use.
Was paying iPrimus $69 a month for adsl and getting 4.5up and 0.8down,now paying $0.98-$4.90 and getting 25up and 25down.

  • shame its vodafone not good in my area.

  • Hey guys!
If I buy this sim to test out Kogan service and keep my current number, will I still be able to get the new customer discount if I purchase another sim or will I need to get a new number for the second Kogan sim?

Your question is confusing. I think you're asking if you:

      1. Buy a Kogan SIM, activate it, then…
      2. Buy a second Kogan SIM, but only activate it when the first SIM runs out, and keep the number from SIM 1 (or the number you ported in)…

Then no. You have wait 30 or 40 days for the number to 'fall off' their register. (There's some confusion if it's 30 or 40 days.)

So you just take whatever number they give you for the second, third, fourth, etc. SIM - and - if you hit their number of SIMs limit - then use a different credit card for the 5th/6th SIM, etc.

  • Happy i didnt get around to the $5 deal and can grab these cheers OP

  • +1

Just a reminder that Kogan will pass on your email forever, so use a temp email to get the voucher code.

  • Can I use 2 voucher in 1 account holder?

    • no

  • Is there a maximum limit for the cart per transaction on this one?

    • 1 per transaction but you can do several transactions ;-)

  • can I buy 12 of these sim card packs and register a new Sim every month to have a years worth of connection on my ipad?

    • Yep but keep in mind when the voucher needs to be used/activated by, so you might want to consider this, or hold off and just wait for better deals.

    • +4

No you can't, these need to be activated by 11/10/18

      • Thanks :)

  • So I can use this in a second sim slot and just use the data I take it?

Be great for my missus when she goes into hospital and has no interwebs.

    • So I can use this in a second sim slot and just use the data I take it?

Of course you can! I'm sure a lot of Ozbargainers with dual SIM phones do exactly this.
