I just wanna say this requirement will kill the deal. : (

Common misconception. I’d imagine if your income increases, so does the value of your toys.

    • +1

Actually I would. The fun of it all is all fun!

    • +3

I can tell you once tax kicks in 150k won't be much

      • 45%?

      • +2

Spoken like a true 150k+ earner

      • That is ridiculous. Every dollar you earn at the high end is disposable income as you've already paid for your survival (food/housing/transport). You pay 37c tax on those dollars (same as everyone earning 80k+) but the rest is gravy.

    • +2

Then who are buying all the laptops / high end tv’s / iPhones. / drones / SSDs / amazing LEGO sets that get upvoted all the time?
Surely you can see that ozbarhain is for people who won’t good deals not just those on a shoe string budget???!!

Good point, now you guys happy?

Couple of important bits which you’ve missed out in your post:

    Annual fee: $700 p.a.
Receive 20,000 bonus for every month you spend $1,000 or more on the Visa for the first 20 months from approval
Apply for the Linked Diners Club Card and make your first spend to receive the additional 10,000 point bonus
    $150,000 p.a. minimum income requirement
    Offer expires: 31 March 2019

    • Yikes. So, minimum cost $1400.

Unless I can use points for grocery cards, I don't care about them (ie: bring the cost of living down). Can't see if woolworths/coles cards are even offered ("Myer, David Jones, JB Hi-Fi, Bunnings and many more"), let alone how many points are they?

      • Not that worth it. it is the equivalent of 205,000 Velocity points over 20 months and that is worth $2050 in my books. Take away the $1400 then it is only giving you a bonus of $750 but you also need to maintain a high spend.

        • That’s what he meant I’m assuming.

        • $650 not $750

        • Woolworths, coles, Bunnings available. The points translate to $1950 of gift cards.

I haven't begun abusing CC signups yet, but I think there's plenty of signup offers that provide points translating to around $400. This offer is $550. CBF (not that I even have $150k income)

      • But you also get priority pass and a free hotel stay.

        • +2

Totally fine, if you want those benefits.

I can't foresee me travelling outside WA within the next 5 years. Probably 10. I have kids.

        • @justtoreply:

Didn’t think kids would be an excuse not to travel.

  • +3

The high annual fee and the fact it will take 20 months to realise all the points gets a thumbs down from me

Will wait for the next Amex Velocity 110K points promo

    • Agreed

  • +2

This card is for high(er) income earners and those who travel a lot on their own coin. I don't think this is for the everyday card churner chasing points.

  • +2

I wish some of the Fee Free For Life deals would come back.

  • +1

Thanks OP, a +1 from me but I'm not going to get it if only because I haven't been too happy with Citi recently so am jumping ship. I can see how this card could potentially be justified if you do a lot of travel. For example you get free breakfasts and $US25 credit per stay in some hotels, and two limo airport transfers each year, and unlimited priority pass lounge access. Those alone could possibly pay for the card, before considering the bonus points. Then there are other extras like pay for three nights and get one free, room upgrades, and an extra bonus 30,000 points per annum for CitiGold customers. The drawback for me is not the annual fee, or the requirement to spend $1k per month to get the bonus points, but the fact it's with Citi. It's a personal thing - I'm sure there must be people out there who have been happy with them.

    • The actual points earn on purchases is poor for Citi cards.

    • +2

      It's a personal thing -

is it because they spam you with SMS verification requests for every litle thing on citi online banking?

      • +1

Yeap that definitely gets me. Why couldn’t their app just perfom like Macquarie.

      • +4

Nah - that and the constant offers to increase my credit limit etc I can cope with and/or ignore. Originally it started with a dodgey offer where they provided a lump sum of credit on my card with zero interest, but failed to mention that in the fine print it then meant that as soon as I used my card for anything I would be paying interest. There were a few other things like the two factor token system breaking a couple of times, but the most recent issue was when someone overseas managed to key in the right numbers and pay for something with my card. I contacted Citi when I spotted it and they said they couldn't do anything until it was billed by them. When that finally happened I had to contact them again and only then would they investigate it….. and I was charged again, on the card that had by then been cancelled for over two weeks, and again I had to wait until it was billed before they would do anything. My experience with other credit card companies are poles apart - I would be contacted by them saying there was a possible issue, confirming if it was a valid transaction and if not they would then chase it up. I do not believe that this is acceptable on what they claim to be a premium card. Basically, use them by all means if the product suits you but I'd make sure that each month you review all the charges - a good idea for any account, but I suggest even more so with Citi.

Aside from all that, things like their reducing the value of existing points as well as earn rate and the shrinking number of restaurants you can go to and get a free bottle of wine with a meal, all has whittled away the value of the card for me. I've recently taken up the Westpac/Amex offer and plan to shift everything over to that, and also plan to take up other FF bonus offer cards as they become available.

        • +1

yea i'm thinking of cancelling my fee-free for life card, I hardly use it

  • +1

What's the credit limit? I would like to purchase a high yield investment with it.

  • Citi called me this morning offering me this. Found it weird they even called and they wanted to security check me as well. I declined the sec check, and they mentioned briefly bout the deal. Wouldn't budge on the annual fee. So no go.

    • Apprently someone on Ozbargain got upgraded to this and fee free for life.

      • How can you get that deal?

        • I can't get that deal someone on Ozbargain did.

    • Someone here earns 150k.

  • I'm actually my priority pass membership if people are keen - it's the top of the range unlimited use

  • $499 annual fee is for first year only or for the life of the card?

    • +1

I think that's a typo in the title. It's actually $700 per annum including the first year. If you chose to earn Qantas FF points, that's an extra $49 on top ie a total of $749 per year.
