Mine from the previous deal arrived yesterday. But my hub from the lightinthebox deal I'll be still waiting for for a few weeks to test it.

Im wanting to see how it can be used as a sleep sensor.

Used to monitor the door and windows witch status

Does it also monitor sorcerer status?

      Oh, right!
This isn't PIR like the Xiaomi version.
They really should call this one a 'movement' or 'vibration' sensor.. I think motion implies PIR.

  • Does this need some other device to function - some kind of gateway/hub?

    • Yes. Aqara smart hub.

I'm hoping it's backwards compatible with the older Xiaomi/Mijia hub. But I wouldn't count on it.

  • Does it work with HA? I have problems with the Aqara cube.

    • ? I got the cube to work ok.

    • Pre order only, ships after 30/9 (!)

  • Hey, neat! Nice to see something different than the standard smart devices.

Does this work with the Xiaomi gateway, or do you need the newly released Aqara hub? I ordered one anyway, so I guess I'll find out in a few weeks.

I'm going to try using the tilt function for my garage door - I can't get a normal door/window magnet sensor to line up consistently. Currently I'm using a hack solution with a ultrasonic sensor.

These seem like they could be pretty useful for checking if the washing is done too.

    • Do you think the action rules on the app are flexible enough to alert when the washing is done?
You'd need some kind of "if vibrations stop for more than 5 minutes, then alert" but probably have to manually reset it for the next use though.

      • Lol this is what I'm going to use it for also! Why the need to manually reset tho?

      • I run things through Home Assistant, so I didn't even consider the app functionality.

5 minutes or so before alert sounds right. Both my washer and dryer do a few stop/starts towards the end of their cycle.

Through Home Assistant I don't think a manual reset is needed - you could just do reset to "Currently washing" if it vibrates for a few minutes - so it would reset itself a few minutes into the next load.

Although thinking about it, now I'm concerned that vibrations from the dryer might keep triggering the washing machine sensor and vice versa. Needs experimenting I guess.

  • what are ppl using this thing for? I'm going it sense vibration?

    • Not quite sure, but I'm thinking..

Washing machine and dryer cycle done.
Garage door open/closed - using the tilt detection
Maybe put one in the letterbox, so you know when to get the post.

I've seen people use things like this on the front door to detect people knocking. Having it trigger a door bell sound when people knock is a bit hilarious.

      • Cheaper/easier to use the PIR sensor mounted in the letter box.

    • Apart from the washing machine (mine beeps loudly anyway), im not sure what i could use this for

  • Will this worth with an Echo Plus (and perhaps an Alexa skill)?

    • +1

Nope. Echo plus won't be able to pair the zigbee kit from Xiaomi.
