Lenovo has recently released the updated version of Legion Y-series gaming laptops, and is having 10% off this particular model that is already having "instant savings" discount.

Part Number: 81FV00JJAU, using coupon code LEGION10 gives you $1,421.10 delivered.

Specification:

  • Intel Core i7-8750H (6 cores 12 threads turbo burst 4.1GHz)
  • 15.6" FHD IPS display
  • 16GB RAM
  • 128GB M.2 SSD
  • 1TB 5400RPM HDD
  • 2.3kg

It has the thin-bezel design with a "nose cam" at the bottom of the IPS display, making it more comparable to Dell XPS 15 than Dell Inspiron 15 Gaming. Unfortunately the one currently having discount is not customisable. Graphics card is only a lowly GTX 1050, but there are other models with GTX 1050 TI or 1060. Unfortunately I can't seem to be able to get the 144Hz FHD IPS display to show up in the configuration.

With 10% cash rewards this is very tempting

    • Use this code for $120 off also - SHOPBACK2018

  • wish i have spare dough…. oh so little money so many wishes

  • 1050 GTX 🤢

  • While the specs are a bit disappointing (wish it can have more customisation option on the website too!), the main attraction of this laptop is probably design. Considering it is mainly plastic construction, while design might compare more to a XPS, but it is more marketed to go against perhaps the new Dell gaming range of G3/G5/G7.

Here's a pretty good review of the device: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UQaHNS7oCWY

    15.6" FHD (1920 x 1080) IPS, Anti-Glare, 300 nits, 144 Hz (configurable with GTX 1050 Ti or 1060 only)

That'd be why it isn't showing up

  • If you are a student or a business owner Lenovo will do you a better deal. I spoke to them as a business owner for the Yoga 730 15 which was $1999. All they would take off was $70. I said stores such as Bing Lee had a 20% off sale on ebay (total BS) which brings it down to $1799. They said they couldnt do that and only offered me extra warranty, so i told them its a shame other places can and closed the chat. Next thing i know they send through a quote to my email for $1799. I then purchased it through cashrewards for a 10% back on that to :)

But for those wanting to buy from Lenovo, this code still works for $120 off - SHOPBACK2018
Then of course another 10% through cash rewards

  • Anecdotally, I've not had good experiences with Lenovo consumer warranty.

In the end what really matters is heat. I have a 1060 metabox prime-s, the epitome of plastic form + high spec, and it blue screens or shuts down from heat if playing gpu demanding games. So be wary of wishing for bigger cards in smaller laptops. Had a 1070 Asus rog as well which never did that, but that was a 17in and had huge heat vents.

I can't find any proper reviews of this laptop, anyone had any luck?

  • What's the GTX 1050 like? I am looking for a decent laptop with a decent graphics card.

    • My experiences are with the 1050TI and it is barely up to snuff on minimum to medium graphics settings for any AAA games out in the last 2 years. For anything else it is more than enough.
