JBL Playlist Wireless Speaker (with Chromecast Built-in) $98 @ Harvey Norman

120

Good price for a WiFi speaker, it has Chromecast built-in, a Chromecast Audio alone sells for $58. Was $248 before the price dropped.

You can also stream via bluetooth, it's a mains powered speaker.

can cast normal youtube video from laptop to this speaker right ?

It's a chromecast audio. You'll need to use YT Music. Although whether that's the case in 6m is another matter.

    • Yes, the option is available when using Chrome browser.

  • Does this have Netflix built into Chrome cast?

    • Netflix casting only supports a device with video, for example a Chromecast plugged into a TV or an Android TV device. This speaker is not supported.

  • This is tempting - I've been looking for a powered bluetooth speaker and the Chromecast on this makes it appealing.
The speaker looks to be on clearance at other stores ($125 on clearance at OW)

  • Can somebody answer why you would need Chromecast & Bluetooth? Im struggling with why youd need chromecast, wouldnt you need to cast from something anyway, so why not just buy a bluetooth speaker?

It's ideal for multi-room audio. Also the range is a lot further using WiFi rather than bluetooth.

      • Yep and also proper sync for multiple speakers and can stream straight from the cloud, also better audio quality. You need to use casting to understand it fully.

Chromecast is way better IMO. The audio and range is better than bluetooth (also I can cast with phone and then go out of range and it will continue playing) but mostly the benefit is the ability to include it in a chromecast multiroom group.
So I can have this and my other chromecast audio devices synced up so that they all play the same thing at the same time from one device. Great for parties or if you're moving around the house and want to keep listening to the same thing.

Also I use google home to control it so I can just say "Hey Google, play some music on my JBL speaker") and it will play to it.

Note: don't have this device, but have a Sony SRS-ZR7 which has chromecast built in.

      • Just to confirm, you need to use Google Assistant on your phone or another Google Home/Home Mini to listen to your commands right? This type of speaker doesn't have a mic to act as a Google Home?

It acts exactly like a normal Chromecast Audio plugged into a speaker?

    • better sound via wi-fi than bluetooth, but I might not hear the difference as my hearing is shot to pieces.

  • No…… Just bought the Sony SRS bundle. Shall I buy this as well. I think there are 6-7 wireless speakers somewhere in my drawer……

  • will Officeworks match this? as the closest 3 HN don't have stock (Woodville, Adelaide CBD, Gepps Cross in SA)!

  • this product always for $98 on the Catch

  • Off topic but what happens when google push out updates to the chromecast. 3rd party devices like this either miss out or you have to wait for the vendors update with months of lag?

And how long do they keep supporting the device? What happens when they stop?

  • This is awesome! Just price beat with officeworks. Works perfectly with the google home mini that we received from the ebay plus subscription. Was considering the JBL Link 300 (which from YouTube review performs almost the same as the JBL Playlist- surprisingly despite the different hardwares). Thanks OP!
