Samsung Galaxy S8 Black Only 64GB $777 (Free C&C or + Delivery) @ Harvey Norman

130

Hey OzB, first post here so please be kind.

I've been looking for a new phone and this just happened. There could be cheaper prices through eBay shops but I assume they're most likely to be grey imports.

Also, there is JB Hi-Fi's $200 gift card if you port your number to an eligible Telstra plan (link here) so you could bring it down to $577 after price matching.

Happy to be corrected as I'm really considering this phone now.

Before anyone else restates what you've said about it being cheaper elsewhere, congrats on your first post! I think that's a pretty good price. If you buy from eBay, you can get AU stock with AU warranty from different sellers including Allphones (who always seem to be included in the frequent ebay coupons) but it's my understanding that their S8s are Optus branded(?). Either way, a price beat at Officeworks would bring this to $738.15. Also to consider would be a JB-HiFi price match with 5% off gift cards for RACQ members if that applies to you. Although I've never had any luck getting them to price match, even from local stores in stock. Last time the bloke said, "sorry we can't get close to that".

Thanks @nodeahs! Allphones are currently listing it at $789, which makes this cheaper (no ebay coupon yet though). I'll check out my local JB Hi-fi store and see if they're willing to price match OW's $738.15, although my only reservation is that OW is currently out of stock.

      • You can always try over the phone with OW. If they have stock in your state they just price beat it right then :) (edit: Just to clarify- I believe you tell them about it, they look up the competitor and then you pay over the phone and they ship it to you.)

This is not really a deal, sorry.

Non branded Allphones $682.40 with code POLLEN.

        • Excellent! Do you think JB will match this? I'm really interested in porting to Telstra and get $200 voucher.

        • The link you provided says that there are only Telstra and Optus branded ones available? Perhaps they ran out of stock of unbranded ones?

        • @nodeahs: right, sorry I didn't even look at the drop down options. Just ask them if you really need an unbranded one.

I have both an unbranded and Telstra S8 in my household and they really aren't that much different. You can always flash generic firmware if need be.

@atac84: Doubt it, I don't think JB price match eBay promo codes.

        • @sTon3r: Yeah true the few seconds of the Telstra/Optus logo isn't a huge deal. Flashing generic firmware to change it might be if you plan to use your phone for any sort of Mobile Pay (Google Pay, Samsung Pay etc) as it would trigger knox. A heard that there's some bloatware apps that come with some carriers but I guess it wouldn't be hard to uninstall them.

          it would trigger knox

Not true, I'm talking about official generic firmware, not custom roms. Flashed via Odin/Kies and it's fine.

        • @sTon3r: Wow I didn't know that. I unlocked my bootloader and Google Pay wouldn't even work without actually changing anything. I'll keep that in mind.

@nodeahs: unlocking bootloaders would cause issues …payment thinks phone has been hacked,

  • Slightly cheaper here - $765 Mobileciti - AU stock

    • Nice! thanks for pointing out. Can someone explain to me what network branded means? It says phone is Optus branded.

      • Start up screen will have an Optus scene

      • +2

Optus splash screen during bootup and firmware to use their VoWIFI and VoLTE.

    • Unfortunately OW and JB (especially) won't price match a carrier branded phone… although I know a few friends who did and Officeworks didn't even notice when looking it up.

    • I know right I missed out!

  • This is usually at ~$650 in the ebay deals. I bought $630-something from allphones ebay.

    • Would they be Telstra / Optus branded? I'm looking to price match at JB, but it seems that they don't match network branded phones.

      • Mine was optus branded.

  • Guys any good deals for note 8?
