        I wouldn't say "never"… I would say, not have a current Amex card.

        I used to have one, cancelled it, and two years later applied for another one (both times Qantas Amex) and still got the bonus points.

    AMEX card are widely not accepted. I can't even pay my phone bills with it.

      I have an AMEX from the last BMW offer, and I would say they are accepted at 90% of places.

      So you just have to ask everywhere you go, and after a while you know which stores / chains take it and which don't.

      This is the only card I have that accrues points so is my preferred card.

      BTW, don't u get slugged a surcharge for paying your phone bill by CC? - maybe that's only Telstra.

          Did you guys applied and got approved 2 months ago? I got mine approved around 1 month before and spend over $500 on the day I received it, no bonus points posting at the moment.

          Yeah, 2 statements since then, last one on the 10th of Feb. The points were credited on the 23rd of Feb.

      From the site, it says: "Earn one point for every dollar you spend on eligible purchases with your Card and choose the program that best suits your lifestyle."

      The two rewards programs are "Membership Rewards Ascent" or "Qantas Direct".

    You can only apply when you satify the following criteria
    * Be over 18 years of age.
    * Have a good credit history and no payment defaults.
    * Be a permanent resident or citizen of Australia or hold a current Business Long Stay Visa (Subclass 457).
    * Earn a personal gross (pre-tax) annual income of $25,000 or more.
    * If self-employed, you have been trading for at least 18 months or 12 months if you hold an existing American Express issued Card.

      I got both, and transfered my original ascent gold to the BMW gold, no drama.

        How did you apply the BMW gold ? Did you call AMEX directly or apply via BMW website then request AMEX to transfer from ascent to BMW ?

          I just submitted the application online, filled in my gold ascent card number, and expected an option to transfer over. However there was no such option on the BMW amex online application, so I called them and explained I want to transfer my ascent to BMW. The guy on the line said it's ok to apply even I already have two accounts. A few days later a lady called up and I told her to transfer my ascent. Then it's all done and I found no change in my account facility, except the card no and due date.

          So I reckon the BMW gold and Ascent gold are essentially the same type of Amex, because the icon and the name of my card didn't change in the online facility, and even my previous statements from ascent are still there under the same card title.

          Maybe wait for a while? I waited for about one month after I got the Qantas card.

          Actually applied for Ascent on Nov last year as my first Amex, and got 25000 bonus MR point out from the hopscotch. Then applied Qantas card after X'mas when I saw it on OZB, got 7500 Qantas bonus points, and applied for this BMW by the end of Jan. Now waiting for another 10k MR points.

          So basically one application per month, didn't have any problem with them.
