  • Received on amex platinum edge, thanks OP.

  • First time user here, I just wanted to confirm that this promotion is per Card (both primary and supplementary) meaning we can actually have $100 Savings? Additionally, do you think it's wiser to just buy the Harvey Norman Gift Cards with the cards and use the GCs in buying the items itself (either online or in-store)?

    • +1

If your Supplementary card has a different number then you are fine.

    • With these promotions they refuse to sell GC to you with the cash back offer

      Happened last year.
They would have pulled all GC and VISA card off shleve by now

      • Hi,

So if I buy HN GCs with our amex cards, the offer will not be fulfilled? So they actually check the purchase items?

I just remember the for the woolies ones, it just alplied the rebate after a few days.

Thanks for your answer in advancd.

        • No. You would get the statement credit as they can't tell what you've bought.

However, it's likely that HN has pulled all the HN GCs and the prepaid visa cards from the shelf for the duration of the promo.

If you do manage to find the GCs/VCs, it is just as unlikely that HN would let you buy it with your Amex.

A one in a million chance is still a chance though I suppose.

Gerry doesn't like you, don't you know.

        • -1

@Some Guy: They disabled the machine from issuing visa gift cards last few times.

        • @Some Guy:

I see, the GCs are available online though so I can just purchase it there? I'm just scared that when I buy it, I won't be able to receive the rebate.

        • @kdm: IIRC, the online orders were mostly cancelled/unfulfilled, meaning that the transaction never hit your Amex —-> no credit. There may also have been some that slipped through though. YMMV

        • @JIMB0: Do you mean the vPAY gift cards? If so, they also took off the shelves the little card thing that you took to the cashier. It would appear that they just stopped selling the Visa1 type. Regardless of their methods, the GC options are largely gone now.

        • @JIMB0: yeah, had this issue, no one could issue the gift card.. machine did not let them.. zzz

      • yep.

not sure about other branches but broadway branch pointblank refused to sell if u are using amex.

  • +8

For those that don't have the deal showing up in your Amex accounts, it may possibly be due to having already redeemed the Amex $350/$50 HN deal from a few months ago. I used a couple of cards in that deal and now they don't show up in the Offers section for those particular cards.

    • +1

Damn, you're spot-on! I used all my Explorer cards in that offer, and now none of my Explorers have this offer. I didn't use any of my Plat Edge cards and now they have the offer.
      Brilliant sleuthing. Thanks!

    • I used that deal on primary and supp and still got the offer in my primary. I don't have an online account with the supp.

    • I redeemed that offer on my Amex and wife's supp and both got the latest offer

  • Newbies question, how do you register your supplementary card through the app?

  • think its all over now. saw the offer early morning but now its not there anymore. saw it on 2 of my essential card. sucks that when i wanted to add it on the rest, the system broke down. now its gone.

    • +2

Think the quota has been met. 22500 wasn't much considering everyone has 10+ cards…

  • Just to be clear, I can apply this to both my Edge card and Essentials card and get the $50 back on both?

    • +1

Yes, provided you've registered the deal on both cards and transact through both cards (spend 250 more on each card) You'll get $50 statement credit back on each card accordingly.

  • Is anyone having issues buying E-gift cards and gift cards via the website and paying with AMEX with this deal. I've heard some friends have had their transactions be reviewed and at times subsequently cancelled.

    • For this offer in particular?
Or is this about past HN offers?

  • -5

registered a few amex cards but I don't think I ll be using it as I still have e gift cards from last time offer. if anyone finds a store that has prepaid visa gift cards in stock or still sell vpays please report back here ? even if they pull them off the shelf during the promo cant you buy them after the amex promo ends using a hn e card?

  • +1

HN Gordon manager today said they received notification from HQ to only accept cash for GCs!! WTF…she herself wasn't convinced about this herself and let her staff member sell me a $500 GC split over 2 Amex cards….you think we were robbing HN!!

    • +1

Well I need to get a new Dishwasher and so I'll be paying it across a few Amex Cards and I'll also be asking for a gift card to make up any remaining excess to hit the $250 mark (and maybe one more $250 worth of GCs for the heck of it) and if HN baulks on this I'll just not buy the Dishwasher there.

I'd like to see what they say to that.

    • Amex T&C doesn't state exclude Gift Cards as compared to the previous deals.

      Tight****

    • +1

Last time I went to Gordon, the sales staff insinuated the AMEX deal was along the lines of fraud as I wanted to pay by AMEX (this was 2 years ago during the AMEX deal at that time). I don't believe he read the T&C's in terms of refunds and so forth.

My reply was "Great, do you want my money and do you want to make commission or not…"

  • Really frustrated missed it again. I have missed it last time.

The worst is that I have ordered a dash cam 2 days ago, and still have not got it

Is there a way that I will be informed if such promotion occurs again?

  • After saved the offer, I found there is a redeem button on the page. I was wondering should I click it before I place an order? Thanks

    • +2

Nah. Once it is saved on your card you can spend in store or online.

      • Thanks

  • Has anyone bought any of the apple products this year and got the credit?

    • I like to know this too.
Want to split payment for iPhone across multiple Amex.

They allow? And anyone successfully get cash back ?

  • Dropped by hardley normal yesterday, they were displaying this at the counter….

    pic

    • Which Harvey location did you go? And did you try splitting?

      • Was there to pay for my 30 cent photo print. They had a mininum of 2 dollars for credit transaction

    • Would also like to know where this was, and whether other HN stores are doing the same….

      • +2

        HN liverpool

    • ROFL

  • The sign above is unbelievable!! Looks like HN stores making up thier own rules such as HN Balgowlah stating they can only accept cash for GCs!!

    • Simply just don't buy from HN at all problem solved.

      • But then who else will give you effectively a 20% discount?

        • +4

Yeah you get 100% back into your wallet and earn your respect back by not shopping there.

    • Meant HN Gordon, not Balgowlah

  • Last time there were 50,000 this time half that :(

  • Heads up:

Two of us went to HN Chadstone for a Samsung tab earlier today, looking to split payment across two cards (one belonging to each of us).
Thug-looking Manager flatly said they don't split payments.

    • Can try buy giftcard $250 each first ?

      • We had AMEX Essentials cards which would've covered accidental breakage for it. Buying gift cards then the item would work for the $50/card discount but wouldn't give any extra benefits from AMEX's side.

        • FYI screen replacement cover on the Essentials cards do not include tablets.

        • @F3ND3R:

Sorry, was supposed to be phone but couldn't change my comment.

    • Would they allow gift card purchase?

      • +1

        Didn't try gift cards, sorry.
But I did see unloaded gift cards in store, and there were no posted signs declaring you a glorified criminal for paying with AMEX. If you are paying using supplementary cards there's a high chance they'll request those cardholders to be present and show photo ID matching the cardholder name.

I visited again this afternoon and struck gold this time around. Though considering I'm probably not the only career bargain hunter splitting payments with a multitude of AMEX cards I would highly recommend visiting sooner rather than later before they come up with kangaroo court conditions on the fly.

  • Harvey Norman Campbelltown refused to accept Amex as payment for gift card. Went there today.

    • +2

Outright refused AMEX payment? Jesus Christ.

No wonder HN has such a negative reputation.

      • +1

I would contact AMEX and complain to them, and have AMEX have a chat with that store

        • Contacted. They said they cannot ask them to accept Amex for gift card. It’s up to the store.

  • Used 3 amex cards yesterday spending over 250 3 times no email yet confirming and not showing as redeemed in app yet?

    • You did register your cards, right?

      • Yep

        • Guess you'll just have to wait a few days to see if the credit shows up then

    • +3

Sometimes the offer emails don't turn up if you use PayWave. Common issue with redeeming the American Express offers, but the credit itself still comes through.

If you used PayWave this time, make a mental note to yourself of inserting the card into the terminal every time you intend on redeeming an offer, to see the email come through.

    • What you buy?

  • Do harvey norman do mobile recharges? (namely Boost mobile) Might need some filler to make it to the total needed.

  • Has anyone been able to buy the HN GC using AMEX CC?

    • +2

Yes i bought 4 online gift cards from HN website, and received all 4 credits after a few days.
I bought a $200 and $50 gift card on each amex card

Also - i didn't see gift cards excluded from the t&c's for this offer.

      • +1

Looking at your comment, i just ordered one. And it came up as order under review. Hope it gets cleared.

I did buy one set before and it came in fine. without the review email

Did you use the same email id for all orders or different one? Just thinking if that makes any difference.

        • +2

Same email 4 times. I did them all on the first day. A few minutes apart.
It was under review for a few minutes and then the actual eGift card arrived in my inbox not long after.

Out of 4 purchases, i only got 1 amex offer redeemed email. But i did get credit for all 4

          • @krapola: Were all the cards under your name?

        • Just looking at your discussions, I would like to buy gift cards too—just wondering if your gift cards got cleared in the end?

        • +1

@birdnw: i just got the $200 one. Waiting for $50. Both were part of the same order.

          • @randomstuff: I am also waiting for the $50 one. Contacted live chat and they said they would log it but am still waiting for it.

I remember last time they charged my card but rejected my orders so I never received the gift cards. Contacted them via email and no response. Eventually had to call up to get the refunds issued weeks later.

Holds times are very long when you try and call.

Absolutely useless business, I almost wish Amex would stop giving these offers so I don’t have to deal with them.

            • @potm: My $50 got delivered the next day. So I am almost on good terms. And love this and other Amex deals.

Had this offer on several cards. And got one of my mate a new TV with 20% discount and another mate is asking to get him a P20. So happy to help them out and they are happy as well.

        • +2

@birdnw: Mine 4 went through fine. Got the eGift cards emailed to me and the credits showed up on my amex accounts

        • @randomstuff: Good to hear that you got at least one of them though, it seems like it took a while to come through.

          Thanks for letting me know!

    • +1

Update - Tried my luck at 2 HN's.
      A. Broadway - the lady selling GC asked me my mode of payment, I told her amex, she paused and said I need to check. She went and spoke probably to the store manager for couple of minutes got back asking few more questions like are you going to do split payments/how many cards (i had 4 on mind) and then she prompted 1 card, i was like hmm yes…coz the way the conversation was going i was like lets take one now and return later for more.
      B. Moore Park - went this arvo, asked for a $500 GC no questions asked. Split payment over 2 card and then went and bought the XS. Score!!!

      • -4

The gift card is that hn gift card or something like Westfield I can use anywhere else?

        What's the lady name?

      • Surprised at Broadway. Tried them the last promo and it was a straight no.

  • +1

Missed, but thanks OP anyway. :-)

  • Been Looking at getting the LG g7 thinQ
    https://www.harveynorman.com.au/lg-g7-thinq-64gb-smartphone-…
So with splitting on 4 cards, and buying $100 of some other stuff to make it to the total, it would come to around $750ish. Think it would be worth it in your opinion? Thanks

    • So with splitting on 4 cards,

Only if they let you split.

      • +1

        Depends on the HN.
My local store's manager served me and he asked me if I was doing Amex (with a grin)

        • +1

Family member bought a mac book pro during last year's promotion, splitting it on 6 of our amex cards last year without any problems, this year, please remain the same

      • HN Auburn let me split for my iPad mini last year, but because the second Amex wasn't in my name, I could only pay for half the iPad and had to drag the cardholder with me to HN another day to pay off the other half … (Should have used the one that wasn't mine first in hindsight …)

        • Just wondering, do they check the names if you're using split payment via Apple pay or Google pay? Google pay doesn't show the name of the card on screen, only the last 4 digits of the card

  • Went to Harvey flag ship store Auburn. Split payment on 3 cards. No issues, no questions asked. 2 Cards were not in my name. All went smooth

    • I've never had problems with Auburn.

Bought both iPhone and Galaxy S7 on Amex deals through them in previous years' deals.

      • I did (see previous comment above this one), however that was in December 2017

  • Harvey Norman Cannington in WA have no issues at all with whatever method you’d like to use to buy gift cards. Bought 3 and split the payments over 3 cards

  • Anyone tried online GC?

    • I have tried and it worked for me. Got gift cards and got cash back from amex as well.

      • Thanks. Good to know.

  • Can anyone comment on how long the e gift cards take to receive? Thinking of ordering a Samsung S8 but deal ends today. Would need the gift cards by this arvo..

    • +1

I had got my $200 in about 1 to 2hours. But $50 had taken several hours or came late night types

      • How long is their GC expiry? Is it 3 years?

        • Should be three years minimum as it's now law in NSW to have a minimum three years' expiry on gift cards; anything less than that and the company can be subject to fines
