AmEx Statement Credit (Spend) - Harvey Norman $50 ($350) [Registrations Capped] & Europcar $30 ($200)

4290

Pretty ordinary return / spend compared to past deals. (thank zrmx for the Amex connect direct URL).

  • YMMV - Registrations appear to work for bank issued cards; shop may accept / refuse split tender.
  • Past experience wrt product exclusions - the credit is typically received.
  • Mixed reports about the credit being rescinded (removed) if you return / refund the purchase.
  • Cash equivalent vPay or visa prepay cards etc seem hard to find these days, but gift cards for HN, iTunes, Google etc likely easy found.

Save the offer to your eligible Card and spend $350 or more, in one or more transactions, online or in-store at Harvey Norman by 30/06/2018 to receive one $50 credit. Limited to the first 50,000 Cards to save the offer. Exclusions apply.

inb4 Gerry hides all the prepaid credit cards.

    • +1

Yeah not sure if they had the VPay or Visa gift card machines working after the head office disabled them during the last Amex promo.

      • They got removed from shelves too and saw some signs saying "we do not sell these". Not sure if they were only removed for the duration of the promo however?

        • Just called Mascot and Moore park stores in NSW and the cashier has confirmed that vpay vouchers and Visa gift cards do not come up on their systems which means they are not selling anymore.

Harvey Norman gift cards are the way to go

        • @spk:

Haha they must have got sick of people buying them under these promos. I wonder if Domayne still sells them?

    • The excuse I heard from the VIC Geelong HN Corio and Geelong HN Waurne Ponds stores was that they DO have the Prepaid cards but it was only for special offers like some of those 'buy this X product and get $200 EFTPOS card' deals.

    • +7

It’s acceptable to buy Apple products, they will lose money.

    • Why?

      • +14

Old Gerry is somewhat anti-competitive. Plus he is a billionaire off the back of selling overpriced computers to old people, pushing finance plans to people that don’t understand them and using commissions to encourage salespeople to bait-and-switch from advertised items to high margin generic crap or clearance stock. Systematically flouts the law and ethical boundaries with respect to warranties and refunds.

        • +3

Not sure the all others you mentioned but $50 Monster HDMI cable is one they try very hard to sell you

        • -7

Well someone clearly didn't get a good deal at Harvey Norman recently… Chill bro, ask for a better deal next time or price match. Harvey Norman ain't forcing you to do anything. Just some of that entitled blame others for your mistakes routine, yeah? Attaboy!

        • +1

@DonaldDr4per: well somebody clearly doesn't understand Harvey Norman recently…. Chill bro, read some more or watch a doco. The world ain't forcing you to stay in a box. Just some of that ignorant chit chat talk for your blaggermouth routine, yeah? Attaboy!

        • +1

          @Calmerancer: '

who the hell says attaboy anymore?

          The Millionaire from Gilligans Island?

      • You've never heard him speak about how entitled he is?

    • +5

Why? Just get them to price match the cheapest retailer and score an extra 50 off.

      What's wrong with that?

    • +1

Gerry has hung us all out to dry while he and his corporate mates count there billions.

      • +1

Them terrible rich people, how dare they make money…!

    • this typing look liked catchoftheday

  • Excludes Apple 😩

    • +4

Never ever! Jokes aside, don't think any cash back has ever been rejected based on what you buy, as long as its from HN, you should get the cash back.

    • +2

They say fhat, but they can’t really tell and you end up getting the credit anyway. I bought an iPad mini plus an iTunes card over two Amexes when it was $400 spend for $100 credit last time and got the $100 credit.

      • +1

Oh I see, thanks guys! Hoping they do some good ipad discounts after the announcements next week

      • Some of the exclusions are real. Ask purchases are done via an Asko website, not the Harvey Norman point of sale system. Apple purchases are done via the HN POS, so you will get the cashback. Amex don't know what you buy… they only know how much you spent and where.

    • +1

I purchased an apple watch with the last deal which stated it excluded apple. I got the cashback anyway.

    • +1

I have bought apple stuff previously and gotten the cashback when it has been explicitly excluded.

I think that as long as it goes through the Harvey Norman till, it works. I believe Miele (and maybe others), don't go through the Harvey norman till so wouldn't get it.

    • Yep bought a new apple 4k TV along with an electric blanket and got the $50 cashback

  • +5

Not surprised they changed it after last year, the deal was full subscribed within 48 hours because people were buying 4+ giftcards and then selling them for profit on classifieds sites like this one which didn't seem to be the true intent of the scheme.

Gerrymandering: the inability to find and buy visa gift cards at HN when Amex statement credits are offered.

A similar thing happened to us with Europcar. Ymmv

Can you buy gift card again this year and get $50 credit.

    • +7

Maybe have a read first of the comments already made.

      • -8

        You have been very helpful.

        • He was very helpful. Did u get ur answer by reading them?

  • Got it on both DJ and Explorer card, thanks

  • Participate stores only.

  • -1

    Exclude airpods x2?? :(

    • See previous comments. Although exclusions are listed, no exclusions are actually applied.

      • Thank u!

  • +7

    $50 pays for Gerry’s GST.

  • Awesome, $50 is still $50. I remember using 4 of the $100 offers last year and that was sweet

    • +2

I used 6 on my fridge, 7 on my TV and 2 on my Switch. These days I only have access to 4 cards, but I don't have anything I want to buy, so no point registering.

      • I ended up registering so a friend could use the offers on a TV she was buying. She lives in a different city which made it interesting, but she just added my cards to her Apple Pay and it worked a treat. Well, except one that was blocked for potential fraud, so she saved $150 and not $200.

  • This will be good timing for those wanting a PS4 as there should be some good deals for e3/Sony's Days of Play that you can at least hopefully price match.

  • Oh what not valid for this offer on my essential card :(

    • +2

      got it on mine

  • Our system is not responding at this time, please try again later.

  • No negative votes for "major issue with retailer" yet is a little bit surprising.

    • The hire-a-protester mob havent woken up yet

  • +5

I thought we were boycottinh HN ?!?

    • +5

Principles are nothing in the face of a bargain

    • +1

Yes. We grab all 50,000 offers then do not use them.

  • Didnt the HN deal before be spend $300 and get $100 back?

  • Offer is limited to one credit per Card to which the offer is saved and only spend on this Card counts towards the Offer.

Anyone had luck with enrolling supplementaries? I got this when trying to enrol (via manual link).

    OOPS
Our records show that you've already enrolled in this offer.
You can only enrol your Card once in each offer. Any other Cards linked to the same account must be enrolled separately if they are eligible.

    • +3

As long as the supp card has a different card number, you can enroll

    • I have enrolled by 2 main cards, and my 4 suppcards = total 6 cards.

  • +11

We should all start boycotting Gerry Tax Harvey.

    Loser.

    • +3

      I am with you

  • +2

Can confirm that chadstone HN isn't selling VPay And prepaid card anymore.

    • +1

      Is this the case nationally?

    • +1

Confirmed none at Fountain Gate, VIC too. Oh well :(

  • any good nintendo switch deal from Havey Norman?

    • Not yet so its time to play the waiting game. Hopefully it will be as good as last one which brought it down to $300

  • Thanks OP.

  • I have registered four cards but I have nothing to buy from Harvey Norman at the moment. What do you think is the best use of this offer?

    • Not sure if this works, but what if you buy an item and have split payments? Not looking to risk it haha, but someone with experience might know if it will still work if you split this to 3 separate $366 payments on 3 credit cards. Gives you a saving of $150 on top of the bargain the monitor is on.

      Acer Predator X34 $1098
      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/381639

      • +1

        You sure can!!!

        • No problem using split payments.

Spent $3500 over 8 cards last Xmas and received all credits.

If they baulk just tell them no deal and they will cave immediately.

    • I stil have gift cards from last times promo

      • If you are in Sydney, I am willing to buy them from you. Thanks.

  • +3

    Harvey Norman was 100 off 300 (33%), then 100 off 400 (25%), now just 50 off 350 (14%)…

    • +1

14% is better than nothing IMHO. Looking at getting a TV in the next month so this may come in handy through either a sale or some negotiation.

    • +5

Price match with the cheapest retailer + use this deal = winning

    • +2

The larger one normally happens end of year(though twice isn't a big sample size to go with), with a smaller one around mid year (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/305107) same deal around same time last year.

      • Well spotted

  • +1

If anyone is after a switch, HN can price match Amazon AU's $398 price for the neon over live chat, bringing it down to $348 after cashback.

    • in store? any chance to cut it down to lower?
      before was around 300

      • +2

You can do it online or in-store :) And it was $300 because of the $100 off, this is probably the cheapest option now unless another company sells lower which doesn't seem like it's going to happen for a while.

        • -1

Yep, a shame about the cashback getting lower each year.

          2016 it was $150 off ($199 PS4 Slim ftw). 2017 it was $100 off ($300 switch ftw).
Now it's only $50 off, not much better than a 10% off site-wide ebay deal really.

        • +1

          @idonotknowwhy:

It'll get better at the end of the year, as explained above, there was a $50 back and $100 back deal in 2017 :)

  • Where is the Europcar one?

  • So the way around product exclusions would be to buy HN GCs then pay using those.

    • How long till the GC expire? Dont you hate getting stuck with cards bearing the name of ozb's nemesis? xD

      • +1

36 months according to their website.

  • Won't be using the Harvey Norman one. Gerry ain't getting a dollar from me ever again after his GST scam!

    • +2

Unless it's such a bargain that he's losing money on the item of course

    • +3

Hopefully the Liberals aren't ever getting a vote from you either.

They set this law and introduced the GST.

  • Nice, thanks OP!

  • +1

Well now I'll never get free shipping from Amazon US again (the only reason I signed up for Amex) and the lack of their worthwhile deals this year I'll be cancelling my card after this.
