Logitech K830 Backlit Wireless Keyboard with Trackpad - $79.20 @ JB Hi-Fi

140

This keyboard is normally around $130 or more, It’s like the only keyboard I’ve found that is wireless, with a trackpad AND is backlit. Love this keyboard

  • I've got this and the trackpad sucks..

I've got this and it's the best HTPC/lounge room keyboard you can get. Great price.

trackpad sucks yeah maybe for playing fortnight but its great for normal htpc usage

got mine for $55 from dick smith years ago

    • I'll agree that it sucks compared to a mouse or even a decent laptop trackpad but compared to the crappy K400 I had before this is a million times better

      • Thanks for that. I have a K400 and for me the weakest point is the trackpad. I'd seen the K830 around and wondered if the trackpad would be any better

  • Agreed. Great keyboard for HTPC use.
Solid quality, good size, great price

I use one of these in the car, with a dash mounted Surface 3, for offroad mapping.

Very good keyboard. Trackpad works well given I have nowhere for a mouse to rest.

    Long battery between recharges.

Best I could find for my application.

  • I seem to remember there were two versions of this: wifi and Bluetooth. The description suggests this model has Bluetooth but I'm not 100%. Anyone know for sure?

    • It seems to say only 2.4 wireless on the ad.

Thanks for this have a +1 buying for a future project :)

  • How is this compared to a diNovo Edge for HTCP?

  • Are these better than the k400 plus apart from the backlit keyboard?

    • They're a much nicer build. I have both and the K400 feels like a plastic toy, whereas this feels like a really nice product. Smoother action on the keys, cleaner lines etc.

(Not to say that the K400 is bad, but this is just a "nicer" product)

    • I concur with metastable… the K400 is a perfectly functional piece of equipment that is great for it's price… but having handled both; this K830 definitely feels more "premium" in build quality.

      • How's the touchpad on it compared to k400 plus? I was gonns get a k400 plus but just wondering if it's worth paying twice for this

  • Yeah perfect for a HTPC. Works best when there's a direct line of sight from the receiver to keyboard. No trackpad issues at all. I didn't have a front USB port so bought a usb extension cable (usb male to usb female) for a dollar off ebay and I put the receiver on top of the case.

Also available @ OW for the same price if you're not near a JB

  • This is a good product. Had it for a few years.
I do sometimes have issues with the trackpad; although I can't pinpoint the cause… because sometimes it works flawlessly and sometimes it lags so hard i can hardly navigate youtube…

The problems I'm experiencing with trackpad lag might have to do with line of sight… or maybe my crappy old PC (Windows 7) doesn't prioritise the bluetooth keyboard operation over other things in its processing "queue"…

Yeah although a different keyboard, I had a similar issue and used USB extension cable to put receiver near to tv (vs in corner of room behind couch in back of pc) and that made a real difference. Worth investigating line of sight optimising!

  • An ok keyboard but with some silly flaws. The F-number inexplicably doesn't light up on the F# keys (which I need), and the illumination turns off way too quickly.

Paid $100 and never shook the nagging feeling I badly overpaid based on performance. At $80 it would've been palatable.

  • Could this be something you could set on Logitech's software? I know with their gaming hardware, they have their dedicated Logitech Gaming Software program where you could customise profiles, lighting etc. I think it's Logitech Options with the non-gaming stuff? Worth a look.

  • Great keyboards, picked up the BT variant on sale at JB ages ago for a bargain price and have been using it as a htpc keyboard on the RPI and on a sim rig for button functionality and menu navigation.

Charges last ages, feels very premium, range seems great, media keys all work well in Kodi.

Would recommend to others looking for a good htpc keyboard.
