This is a brand new phone…when does it actually ship?

  • There is a review already in the section lol

  • +4

This is almost the end of 2018 and Xiaomi is still launching new devices with Micro USB port!?!?

    • +1

I wish more phone makers kept this.
It means that more of the cables i own can still be used.

      • -3

A USB-C cable can be bought for as little for $3 and does everything micro-usb can but better. Such a problem wow…

        • -1

Yeah doesn't stop the fact old tech still requires micro so you end up having have more cables.
I'm sure I'll transition but I need more devices with usb C.
Bythe time I get there, it will be USB D. Or something.

        • -1

@dasher86: If you want to live in the past you can go right ahead just don't complain about new things popping up that are much better than the old ones. It's like the same people who continue to use Windows 7 despite having full access to upgrade to windows 10.

        • @Lolno234:
For most people micro usb is enough.
USB C supports faster file transfer
          Doesn't effect me.
Can be plugged in anyway. Minor inconvenience.
It's basically about companies wanting to make you pay for a new standard.
Pretty sure they could have just upgraded micro.
Completely different to Windows 10 v 7. I'd still run 7 if I had legacy software that required it.
Go ahead over for all I care.
I'm happy to stay with micro until I have enough devices that need c.

  • Note 6 already, I was using the 3 this year lol

    • I love my note 3 pro :p

  • +1

    I've got a note 5 (China version) - this doesn't seem too different…

    • true, a skim through looks to be quite identical, only obvious difference is the front double camera.

    • Where did you get your Note 5 from?

    • Basically is a note 5 with slightly larger screen. Can get the note 5 for around 250aud on AliExpress

      • Cheers

  • +4

Please mention that it has a headphone jack, it's a big deal.

      • Well then I don't want it, everytime I searched for the redmi note 6 pro it came up with this https://www.gsmarena.com/xiaomi_mi_a2_lite_(redmi_6_pro)-9247.php

        • That's a different phone

        • figured that out now, i guess it's not announced which is weird because why is it up for sale?

      • We're not sure yet, the phone hasn't even been announced yet.

I really hate this notch business. Please make it stop.

    • +2

3.5mm jack and no notch is getting hard to find.

      • +1

Just moved on to bluetooth headphones, so I'm kind of getting used to the idea. But that notch… why do phone makers think it's a good idea? At least it makes the Essential Phone look better, but even then… what an eyesore. I don't know if people are actively looking for phones with notches, but I have friends who do the complete opposite.

      • Xiaomi Redmi Note 5

Just bought a Redmi Note 5 from Ebay for $238, being delivered tomorrow.

    • which listing number?

      • +1

        https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Xiaomi-Redmi-Note-5-Black-4G-4GB…

They had it for $268 when I got it, slightly more now.. I used the 10% off Ebay code from last weekend.
Will be delivered in 5 business days with DHL.

Use code POINTY (that code expires today) to bring it down to $245 right now. Cashrewards 1%, will be around $242.50 with express shipping and no GST.

This is the chinese, global version with play store installed.
Ignore the description which says it has a snapdragon 625, they just added the wrong info, I confirmed it with them.

        • Thanks.. I wonder if it's CHINA or Global version.

        • +1

          @dingdong3000:

AFAIK there's only two versions: The Indian version which has a 20MP front camera and the Chinese which is 13MP, Chinese is also known as the Note 5 AI.

They are all the same besides the camera configuration and the Chinese comes with Oreo.
I've read over and over that the Chinese Camera is better than the Indian version.

        • @dingdong3000:

          http://en.miui.com/thread-2683843-1-1.html

Just found this, explains the variant types.

        • Sorry, that Ebay listing is for the Global version not the Chinese, as Google play is installed.

        • @millzy:
The problem I have with that listing is I think they are selling the Indian version of redmi note 5 (Redmi 5 plus)
The chinese Redmi note 5 in India is Redmi note 5 Pro
when you get it have a look if the camera is in the middle the same as the Redmi note 4X.
The photo they are showing is the Redmi note 5 AI (pro India) but the way they are describing it is not the same phone.
this is the redmi note 5 INDIAN version below with SD625.

          https://www.mi.com/in/redmi-note5/
So if you get above send it back as they are showing the photo of a different phone
they are showing the Redmi nore 5 Pro Redmi note 5 AI

        • @costas60:

The description is incorrect, I confirmed that with them before I purchased.

Just received it this morning. STOAKED!

I can confirm it's the Note 5 Pro AI which has the 13MP AI dual front camera (considered the best version), SD 636
Factory plastic sealed box, MIUI Global 9.6.4.0 out of the box (Oreo), Just got an update for MIUI V10.0.1.0

and here comes the epic part.. I ordered the 4GB/64GB version, they sent me the 6GB/64GB version.

          took 4.5 business days.

I strongly recommend you order from this seller..

          @millzy:
Glad you received the right phone
it is great I had mine for a couple of months now
That description on that listing has been like that
for several weeks I wonder why it has not been
          changed to the correct description

          @millzy:
          OUTTA stock. Boo!

          ready to pull the trigger!

Thanx for the info tho, maybe next time.

        • @costas60:

Man, i fkn LOVE this phone (coming from a HTC 10). Haven't stopped playing with the features.
Are you using full screen gestures and split screen?
I was planning on chucking on a rom but no chance, miui 10 is insane.
Just wish if I bought this earlier..

        • @frogged1975:

Keep a look out bro, they keep adding stock every few days..

        • @frogged1975:
Ali express has them at this price sometimes cheaper

        • @millzy:
Great phone I agree for what we paid for.
I have changed the launcher on it as I like an app drawer

        • +1

          @millzy:
Solid Advice. Back in stock. Just bought it at ~250. code 'PAYGRADE' for -10%

          Cheers.

  • +1

    As said before
Xiaomi have not released this phone and
not sure how these people are selling it.
The rumor it will come out with a SD 660 not a SD636 as stated above
I would NOT order this phone yet

  • That is a nice looking iPhone X in blue.
