A new ING Direct promotion has just commenced. It is similar to http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/29920. The Savings maximiser is a fee-free high interest online account with no minimum balance (currently 6.35% for the first 4 months and 5.00% thereafter)

edit: There might be a problem for existing customers without a savings maximiser account. They are eligible but there is nowhere to enter the promotion code. ING are investigating.

Only people who don't have an existing Savings Maximiser account are eligible for the opening bonus. Only existing members who have the offer (check your My Offers | Register section - it appears to be for existing Savings Maximiser account holders only) are eligible for the referral bonus. To get the bonus, the referral code needs to be entered at the bottom of step 4 of the application.

Opening a Savings Maximiser account can be done completely online (you need a phone number, TFN and an existing transaction account with any bank). To active your new account, a small transfer (say $1) is required from your nominated linked transaction account.

Be rewarded for referring your friends and family

Get $40 in bonus interest for every friend you refer (up to 5) who opens a Savings Maximiser and makes their first deposit by 14 April 2011. Plus, your friend will also receive $40 in bonus interest and enjoy our current great variable welcome rate offer. You need to refer your family and friends by 31 March 2011.

Terms and Conditions

Bonus interest (up to a maximum of $200) will be credited to your account by 30 April 2011. A tax liability may exist with the payment of the bonus interest. This offer is only applicable on the first Savings Maximiser that your friend(s) open (including joint accounts).

NOTE: unlike some other deals, this one specify "$40 BONUS INTEREST" which means "TAXABLE INCOME". So depend on your tax brackets,you will only get a portion of it. (unlike vouchers. or other type of bonuses)

So lets get this right:
If I get a referral from someone, the referer and I both get $40 if I deposit the $ b4 the due date?
Then if I refer to my family and friends 5 times, I will get $200 and each one of them will get $40?
SO in theory if you referred to your immediate family, it possible to get $40 + $200 + $40 = $280?
Is my maths right?

I think people are getting told different things, I am an ING everyday account holder and they said I wasn't eligible for the $40 even though I don't have a maximiser account. Other people are being told they are … Confusing!

UPDATE guys;
This deal DOESN'T work on existing clients. I tried to email my "last page subscription" to [email protected]; and got a call this morning. The lady said that it is only for NEW customers.

My family just opened 3 everyday accounts last week and none of us are eligible.

    Hi Cecilia, as far as i know if it went through and you did not get an error message then it should be fine (anyone pls correct me if i'm wrong here).
    
    To active your new account, a small transfer (say $1) is required from your nominated linked transaction account. I think you may need to visit a post office for ID verification which just takes a couple of minutes no biggie.
    
    You need to have the account all set up and activated before 14th April and the $40 should show up by end of April. Once you receive the $40 you can transfer it to your original bank account and close the ING account if you want. Easy money
