A new ING Direct promotion has just commenced. It is similar to http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/29920. The Savings maximiser is a fee-free high interest online account with no minimum balance (currently 6.35% for the first 4 months and 5.00% thereafter)

edit: There might be a problem for existing customers without a savings maximiser account. They are eligible but there is nowhere to enter the promotion code. ING are investigating.

Only people who don't have an existing Savings Maximiser account are eligible for the opening bonus. Only existing members who have the offer (check your My Offers | Register section - it appears to be for existing Savings Maximiser account holders only) are eligible for the referral bonus. To get the bonus, the referral code needs to be entered at the bottom of step 4 of the application.

Opening a Savings Maximiser account can be done completely online (you need a phone number, TFN and an existing transaction account with any bank). To active your new account, a small transfer (say $1) is required from your nominated linked transaction account.

Be rewarded for referring your friends and family

Get $40 in bonus interest for every friend you refer (up to 5) who opens a Savings Maximiser and makes their first deposit by 14 April 2011. Plus, your friend will also receive $40 in bonus interest and enjoy our current great variable welcome rate offer. You need to refer your family and friends by 31 March 2011.

Terms and Conditions

Bonus interest (up to a maximum of $200) will be credited to your account by 30 April 2011. A tax liability may exist with the payment of the bonus interest. This offer is only applicable on the first Savings Maximiser that your friend(s) open (including joint accounts).

      I don't think the email system has ever worked properly. It you look at September's promo http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/29920 you will see exactly the same problem.

      Neither of my two referees have received their emails. I received my confirmation email saying theirs had been sent within minutes of referring them - this was early Thursday arvo.

    A question. Im not a current customer of ING. What exactly do I have to do to get the $40?

    1) Open a savings maximiser account with ING
    2) Link it to my bank account
    3) Pay $1 transaction fee
    4) Make minimal deposit to my new Savings Maximiser account
    5) Me and the person referred will get $40 each?

    Please correct me if im wrong.

      essentially. there should be no transaction fees involved unless your existing bank charges you for it.

      • open a savings maximiser account
      • nominate an existing transaction account as your linked account. money can only be transferred to/from your linked account
      • transfer a small amount (say $1) from your linked account into the savings maximiser to activate it.
      • you get paid at the end of april

      You can sign up for this offer as long as you don't have an saving maximize account. (Im in the same situation as you, just signed up orange everyday account couple weeks ago, and will take up this offer as well. )

      I got my referral from my hubby. If you need one, PM me.

      But at the moment, it seems the referral email system at ING is down. My hubby referred me this afternoon, but I still haven't got the email yet.

        I've PM you. But there is some problem for existing customers sign up Saving Maximizer to get this deal as there is no where to put the referral code in during application steps.
        The sign up process are 2 Step instead of 4 steps (which New customers have, which there is a place to place the code).

    NOTE: unlike some other deals, this one specify "$40 BONUS INTEREST" which means "TAXABLE INCOME". So depend on your tax brackets,you will only get a portion of it. (unlike vouchers. or other type of bonuses)
    Still a very good deal!

    So lets get this right:
    If I get a referral from someone, the referer and I both get $40 if I deposit the $ b4 the due date?
    Then if I refer to my family and friends 5 times, I will get $200 and each one of them will get $40?
    SO in theory if you referred to your immediate family, it possible to get $40 + $200 + $40 = $280?
    Is my maths right?

      you can only refer if you have an offer available to you. $200 for the referrer and $40 for 5 referrees = $400 tops between all of you.

    I think people are getting told different things, I am an ING everyday account holder and they said I wasn't eligible for the $40 even though I don't have a maximiser account. Other people are being told they are … Confusing!

    UPDATE guys;
    This deal DOESN'T work on existing clients. I tried to email my "last page subscription" to [email protected]; and got a call this morning. The lady said that it is only for NEW customers.

    My family just opened 3 everyday accounts last week and none of us are eligible.
