      I hate this. I have the base qantas amex card which I use in between churning other cards. Would love to upgrade to this but I don't want to be without the qantas card for 18 months to become eligible. It's a stupid policy as it punishes current customers. They should really offer us on the free cards an upgrade. I wouldn't mind paying the fee, just want the bonus points.

      It is allowed but at a reduced rate. T&C #3:

Certain transactions will earn 0.5 points per dollar with Merchants classified as; "government", including the Australian Taxation Office, the Australian Postal Corporation (Australia Post), federal/state and local government bodies.

    What are 75,000 points worth?

    Maybe I'm missing something, but a 20% interest rate, $450 annual fee and spending $3000 in 3 months doesn't seem like much of a bargain to me just to get… What, $100 of points?

      If you aren't living with your parents, and maybe even if you are, the average person spends more than $1000 a month easily. Why not get some free points while you're at it?

    Also please be aware that if you use your $450 Amex Travel Credit to book Qantas flights this does not trigger the Qantas Lounge passes as it does not qualify as "purchased directly from qantas.com.au". :(

Provided you are a Qantas Frequent Flyer and have registered your Qantas Frequent Flyer number with your Qantas American Express Ultimate Card, you are eligible to receive two Qantas Club Lounge Invitations each anniversary year of your Card Membership after purchasing on selected Qantas products and services using your Qantas American Express Ultimate Card.
