expired Leappad Ultimate Bundle $159 (Was $199) @ Big W

Was looking for a present for 5 yo daughter, not ready for iPad, but loves taking photos of random things she finds. This seems like a decent price, and comes with $150 worth of free apps? not sure if this is marketing or a good deal.

Also available in Pink - https://www.bigw.com.au/product/leappad-ultimate-bundle-pink...

From website:

It’s kid-tough and kid-safe right out of the box. It also includes preloaded content featuring core skills in mathematics, reading and science as well as music, puzzles, logic and creativity to prepare kids for preschool and beyond.

iPad would be much better value in the long term.

Highly recommended for 4-8 yos. Games aren't cheap ($5-$30) but are generally well designed. Easy to control play time, no risk of kids spending $ on IAPs etc

We had leappad ultras for our kids a couple years back and they were a disappointment. You pay a premium for content and hardware specs was sub par compared to any other tablet specs at the price point. Things were rugged but obvious weaknesses in bits like the charge ports etc.

Some stuff like "the hand curated youtube content" was designed for other countries so my kids would click on videos to constantly be told the content was not available in our region. The only plus was the convenience of a pre-locked down device but I'd definitely recommend looking into some of the parental lock apps and a mainstream tablet before a Leappad

You can get this Samsung 7" tab for $157.60 (Today only with BingLee's 20% deal) which is of much better value and a lot more free apps. The camera too is heaps better than what you get on the Leap.
