Not so much advice as a lazy question, just wondering if it's possible these days to buy a flight for someone else?

It's my daughter's birthday soon and I'm stuck for ideas.

You can buy flight ticket for someone to else. Just make sure the name entered while booking matches exactly with name on passport.

        Thank you.

I'm not sure she'd be happy with you flying to the US just to avoid her birthday 😋

      • +1

Actually, she might be… hanging out with parents wasn't exactly top of my list of things I wanted to do on my 21st birthday.

  • Under $799 target price, well done

Fantastic price. I flew this route with American 18 months ago. It was a pretty new plane i think but we found it to be quite uncomfortable even with an exit row.

Boeing 787 is a great plane absolutely stuffed by airlines insisting on cramped seat configurations that make long haul hell for anyone over 1.5 metres and 75 Kg .. :-( .. !! Boeing 777 flown on this route by Virgin Australia is older but much better.

We flew on American just over a year ago. Long story short, 777 SYD to LAX, we paid $750 return each plus another ~$600 return to be upgraded to their extra legroom (I'm 6ft2 and I didn't want to be cramped for 14 hours). We were rerouted on the way back LAX - AKL - SYD on the 787, and because it was a last minute change we couldn't get the extra legroom. We were refunded roughly ~$300 each but man, I would gladly spend that money again. Even though it was a shorter flight to Auckland it felt like a hell of a lot longer.

    • Yes American fly the 787 now.
The positive is that you are a little less jet lagged as the newer plane has higher relative humidity and better pressure difference.
The negative is the seats are very very narrow.

I prefer the 777 9 across seating that Delta and Virgin Australi fly as they are wider which is very significant for such a long journey.

It may be a little dearer but you notice the extra 4cm of seat width.

      Good price though.

  • Any love for Melbourne?

Sorry American Airlines doesnt fly to Melbourne. I did have a look if there was a codeshare deal with Qantas, but sadly no. So just posting what I did find - dont shoot the messenger! :)

      Any love for Melbourne?

No, pretty sure Daniel Andrews has banned love.

      No love for you.

  • Thanks I appreciate your help

    Non-stop lol

ie. doesn't stop in Hawaii, or Auckland, or Fiji, Brisbane or Singapore, Manilla, Shanghai, Seoul,…

Shirley they stop in LA? Though this reminds me of my non-stop Tiger flight ADL-MEL. They couldn’t land because of some fog so they chucked a u-ey and we did a round trip.

Why would I want to fly non stop return? I'd like a week there at least.

Why would I want to fly non stop return?

      So you don't get shot.

Good deal for Adelaidians as discounted dates coincide with Easter and last week of SA school holidays, just have to find a cheap domestic leg. Outgoing Syd-lax on 19th April is available as part of promo.

        Coming to see Joichiro

  • Thanks OP. Does anyone know what booking class this ticket is gonna be? Wanna check how many tier points I will get for BA.

  • I keep getting error come up when I attempt to click through and actually book a fare.
I found a few suitable fares for $850 return, then click "book" and get this message
    "Sorry,
This fare is not available anymore. It happens quite rarely but you may kindly contact our Live Chat to book the next best fare for the same itinerary or search for similar alternate options.

Someone else purchase the tickets before you could complete the reservation and the fare is just being sold out, please make a fresh search to look for the next available fare or call to speak to our experts:"

  • So if i can't find any flights for my dates within those periods, it's means they're sold out?

  • Its cheap because American Airlines only carry enough fuel to get you 95% of the way there. Oh damn not again -MAYDAY MAYDAY MAYDAY can we have the same runway as last week please.

      United did that. Not AA.

  • What! Too soon?
